I didn't really want a QB this early. Didn't really want a RB this early, but Forte is better than Ray Rice. Again, I would have gone with Sweed or Harrison.
Forte is a good back. A reach just like last year though. He or Jamal Charles could have easily been there in the 3rd. They coulda traded down and still picked him up and possibly picked up a 4th rounder. I would have gone with the DT from Arkansas or perhaps Limas Sweed.
I like the Williams pick. I guess when Denver passed on Albert that there were questions about whether he could handle LT. I'm not a fan of Otah at all. To me, he's a RG or a RT. He doesn't have the footspeed to block speed rushers that come on the left side. Williams is the safe pick, but unfortunately the Bears aren't in the position to make a big splash pick, because of having so much need.
Howry hasn't been too predictable in recent years, as he's put up 4 straight really good seasons each with a WHIP in the 1.1 range. Wuertz has been been nearly as good for the previous 2 years. Relievers are very fickle, but the fact that the 2 worst guys out there right now have been the 2 best relievers over the long term. Marmol, Hart, and Wood haven't had success nearly as long as Wuertz and Howry. Lieber and Marshall are starters forced into a pen role. The Cubs pen will be fine.
Silver lining........first time the Cubs lost 2 in a row this season, they won 6 of 7 right after. Last time the Cubs lost 2 straight, they won 9 of 10 right after. :oldbluekoolaid:
Are the Cubs risking a possible Soto burnout? He's been behind the plate for at least part of 21 of the 23 games so far. Blanco has started 5 or 6 times, but Soto has come in all but twice in those games.
I think I'd take a guaranteed World series appearance. As much as people make fun of the Braves or Bills.....I'd take 4 straight chances to win the SB or 13 straight division titles anyday. Seeing the Cubs in the WS would give me faith that they could win it in the near future.
FYI, It's actually: 7 vs. San Diego, 4 at home 7 vs. LA, 3 at home 4 vs. Colorado, all at home Add in Atlanta for a 3-game homestand between trips to both coasts for 13 games, and 5/9 til 6-19 will be the toughest part of the schedule this year.
What's the alternative though? He's not gonna hit Fukudome or Theriot there, the alternative is Theriot. If Soriano doesn't hit 1 or 2. The most likely scenarios are Johnson/Theriot or Theriot/Pie.
Theriot is white hot right now. Can we at least curb the hate until he cools down? I don't think it's hate to say Cedeno/DeRosa/Johnson is better than Theriot/Fontenot/DeRosa. It's just the facts. Odalis is a lefty (Actually all 3 Nats weekend starters are LH), so Fontenot will not start. I think people are arguing Pie over Theriot, which will not happen with a LHP on the mound.
It's broken down by 1/3. 54/54/54. AT least that's how Stone always said it. Everybody wins 54, loses 54, it just depends on how you do in the other 54.
