  1. Better than what we have in the majors in '08 for now. Fixed for ya.
  2. My boy Mitch with a nice 3:1 K:BB ratio. Those 8 HRs allowed in 6 starts is not particularly good though.
  3. How is Fuld doing at Iowa? A sterling .192/.288/.269 in 52 ABs Wow....that ain't good. Thanks JG. To be fair, he's battled a thumb injury that might be a primary reason his numbers are down. To be fairer, he's not really that good.
  4. http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/1868/facepalmet8.jpg Somehow, that comes as little surprise to me. Pitching coaches surprise me. The Cubs have gotten a lot of pitching talent to the majors. Then again, the Cubs have had a lot of top pitching prospects have major arm surgeries. I don't think it's any more than anyone else, though.
  5. If this makes any sense, I think Avery is a better coach than D'Antoni, but I think D'Antoni would be a better coach for the Bulls. I'd really welcome the bigger change that comes with D'Antoni than Johnson.
  6. Doesn't that violate the time-space continuum? What are you talking about? ARe you editing my posts? ;)
  7. Father's Day son! My 21st was on Father's Day. Ironically enough, on Father's day this year too.
  8. Last time I wore my Cubs jersey was 4/21 the day the Cubs beat the Mets. They went on to win the next 2 before this recent sucky streak. The jersey is back tomorrow. So is good baseball.
  9. This is true. Pittsburgh is not a decent city then, though.
  10. I will admit, day before thanksgiving parties have always been the truth! It was a big day when I was in college because all the people I went to highschool with were home then and we all happened to the same place every year, before and after 21.
  11. Agreed. It's a legit issue. It's probably taboo to talk about, but it's a serious concern of mine if Obama is elected.
  12. You guys are missing the point. It's Halloween. New Year's is the only of those holidays that make people want to make out, but Halloween is a popular time for house parties. So, you combine women in their best ho costume and the built in excuse to act like their costume would suggest. And you have the house party atmosphere, where chicks are more apt to hook up with you because you aren't some stranger in a bar. Even though you may be a stranger, being at the house party suggests that you at least know someone at the house party who knows someone who knows someone at the house party, who knows the girl you are hollerin' at. Makes women more comfortable. To top it off, you have attention drawn to yourself because it is your birthday. I do agree however, that most Halloween parties are the weekend before. So, 10/24- 10/30 may be the best birthday. Not everyone goes out for the 4th (more of a family holiday IMO). Not everyone goes out for St. Pattys. Cinco de Mayo...are you serious? NYE is lame. Most sane people stay home away from the crazies. Plus you have women w/ NY resolutions of not being the ho they were on Halloween starting that night. Any non-holiday, you risk not having very many people out to get the attention needed to make your 21st b-day great.
  13. Some ugly K:BB ratios in A-ball today. Should I still care about Adam Harben? I kinda liked him when the Cubs got him from (was it Minnesota?). But he really sucks so far this year and was hurt last year.
  14. My wife's birthday is/was May 5th. Ain't nothing special about it. I voted for Halloween for the same reasons as Andy.
  15. Next year is still going to be a tough season, but if they add another big man that can play some the NIT might not be out of the question. The Class of 2009 is shaping up to be a very good class for Indiana, too. Already committed are Maurice Cheek (6'5" SG, four-star #63), Derek Elston (6'8" SF, four-star #96) and Bobby Capobianco (6'8" PF, three-star). Capobianco is expected to jump into the top-100 in the next rankings. The 2010 team could be pretty good by the end of the season. Decent group of guards. No true point, but Dumes can do a little bit of that and shoot the 3. Crawford will be more of the go-to scorer. Williams is a big guard who can create matchup problems inside and out. Roth is a pure shooter. Gonna be light up-front, even with Sutton, but I think IU could be a .500 type team.
  16. FYI, Wuertz and Howry have pitched well recently. Wuertz has given up 1 ER in his last 6 innings, and that one was in the 2nd inning of Rich Hill's last game. Given that was probably 90 minutes sooner than he imagined he'd be pitching, I'd say that's not too bad. Howry pitched a scoreless inning today, and was perfect against the Cards for 2 other than balls hit to Soriano.
  17. What the heck do you have to do to be an 80 runner? For the record, I was timed in the 4.1s in high school, and I thought I could fly. I can't imagine somebody a whole .2 seconds faster.
  18. I'm actually not too worried about the batting average with Colvin. The ISOP is the most disappointing to me. He's right about .200 for his career in ISOP, and was at .171 last year in AA. He has to get back up in that range and keep the walks progressing to be a legit prospect. If he gets luckier with BABIP, I could see him have a solid .270/.335/.430 type season. Nothing special but probably good enough in a pitcher's league to deserve a promotion to Iowa next year. Everything worries me about Colvin. He's essentially been an older lesser version of Pie and Patterson up to this point. Sadly, he's not nearly as talented as either.

  20. Probably so. I changed my tune a little on Steltz. Didn't love the pick, but the Bears should be 5 deep at safety now, and he should be able to contribute right away.
  21. In 2 leagues, I'm a combined 20 for 124 hitting so far. My other league has DWright, Utley, Burrell, DLee, Beltran, and BJ Upton. Yet I'm winning all 3 games (other league plays 2 at a time), two of which are 30-50 point leads. This league, I have Edison Volquez. The other league I have Zambrano and Olsen, along with Volquez.
  22. Because he is not significantly better than Fontenot? Seriously...what's the big deal? I'd rather have a Cedeno (SS)/Fontenot (2B) MI than CannonArmTheriot (SS)/Cedeno (2B) MI. I'd rather have the potential help off the bench in case the game gets close enough for it to matter. Theriot is better. He's better defensively at SS than Fotenot is at 2B. Lou is down 5 runs with 6 innings to go, and now has to catch up with a lesser offense than he started the game with....and has less flexibility now off the bench that will undoubtedly see at least a couple pinch hitters and 4-5 relievers. So then your problem appears to be with Lou PH Fontenot in the 3rd inning rather than with the double switch. Or possibly both, I guess. Pretty much both. Bottom line is the Cubs are down big, and don't have as good a lineup on the field as they did to start the game.
