  1. The summer of 84 was the greatest of my life. 8 years old sitting watching all day games on WGN all summer with my hero at the time, my grandfather. He would get a kick out of how dark Gary Matthews was.....ah the good ol days.
  2. Benson not gonna be cut....at least not for his arrest. http://www.chicagobears.com/news/NewsStory.asp?story_id=4682
  3. In all honesty, I want to see how many people think they could hit an AVERAGE TO BELOW AVERAGE major league pitcher, and to what degree. I had a dream about this last night that I singled up the middle vs. Jason Marquis.
  4. water is wet. NBA PGs: Paul Williams rest of league isn't this writing off steve nash and tony parker a tad early? Nah, not at all. Nash is probably a half notch below Williams, but in my eyes, there's a sharp dropoff from there to where the Baron Davis, Tony Parker, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, and Jose Calderons are. I still think Parker is better than Deron, but that could probably change as early as next year. I do agree that Deron's better than the rest of the guys you listed. Billups is better than Parker. Not that Parker is bad at all. I actually think he's the most underrated player in the league.
  5. I'd love to see at least one of the lefties in each of the next 2 games. Wolf has allowed LH hitters to go 8-23 so far this year. Estes just 1 for 1. I don't think Fukudome or Pie would have any trouble hitting either pitcher as they aren't exactly dominant.
  6. 3 passed balls from Donaldson?
  7. I'm very surprised with Lou making this move. Gallagher threw well, but wasn't lights out. I did notice that Lou pretty much left him alone on the mound. No visits before Rothschild in the 5th. He also seemed to have a pretty long leash on him considering nobody got up in the pen until the Byrnes double. The Pirates are a nice team for him to start against on the surface, but they do have the LH hitters that Arizona does not, which could give him trouble. Augie and Stephen Drew were less of a challenge than McLouth, LaRoche, and Doumit will be.
  8. This was the 3rd three game series the Cubs have swept out of the 4 that Zambrano has NOT pitched in.
  9. I thought it was a very good outing by Sean, all things considered. He hadn't started in nearly 2 weeks, has made 2 relief appearances in the last week, and just found out he was starting probably 2-3 hours before he took the mound. I thought he got in trouble when he was rushing. At times, he needed to slow himself down and pitch. But still, he had an awesome fastball. Threw it anywhere from 91 to one 97. A lot of movement. His curve/slider was inconsistent, but had Augie, Reynolds, Drew, and Young scratching their heads.
  10. Yes, Shawn F. Estes will start on Tuesday for the Padres. I believe he took the roster spot of Glendon Rusch too last week.
  11. I think the Red Sox would deal Lowrie, and I think they would deal him for prospects. The problem would be that I don't think they trade him without getting a pretty good prospect or two to be incumbents to their future holes. The Sox will have holes soon at 3B, LF, and C when Lowell, Manny and Varitek leave or retire within the next year or two. I think they'd also be interested in a big time relief prospects and a 2B prospect (moving Pedroia to SS) also. The Cubs can't and won't trade Vitters and Donaldson at 3B and C. But I think the Red Sox would strongly consider a trade involving Ceda and either Patterson or Colvin.
  12. Cubs go undefeated vs. the Pirates, they can go .500 against the rest of the league and still win 95.
  13. I actually thought we would lose yesterday, but beat Haren and Johnson.
  14. If he blows, you will get a literal kick to the balls.
  15. Yeah, I can agree with that. I woulda tried to get the K on a K prone RH hitter coming in cold. Had to know Ward would hit for Pie anyway. If you get Soriano, you still can walk Ward and have them loaded for Fontenot with 2 outs.
  16. AZ pen has been horrible this series. They were one of the best coming into this series.
  17. He shoulda used Cedeno, who's less of a threat than Soriano, despite the early season numbers. But still enough of a threat that AZ had to walk him. Not much of a deal though, as Soriano had to come in anyway.
  18. Gotta do it. Pie isn't a safe bet to put the ball in play.
  19. Why would you not want them to walk Ward, but bring up Soriano who will get walked too? Why not use Cedeno?
  20. It was a hanging slider. Of course, this is a day that will be impossible to hit a hanger out. Derrek Lee thinks otherwise. That was a fastball. You can still hit the fastball out, but when the wind is blowing this hard, a hanger usually won't have the necessary velocity to get thru the wind.
