Marquis may be pitching for his spot tomorrow. Marshall threw 67 pitches, 43 for strikes and threw 5 scoreless innings, 3 hits, 2 BBs, 2 Ks. 6 flyouts, 6 groundouts. Felix is 0-3, with 2 flyouts and a failed bunt attempt.
The game was tied going into the ninth, so it wasn't a save situation. In addition, it's very strange that you thought a 1-run game with the Cubs having 5 ABs left was over.
Don't know if it had anything to do with this crappy inning, but that's why you don't want your damn starting pitcher breaking bats on his leg for no good [expletive] reason.
Watching Pirates coverage. The announcers are raving about Soto. Apparantly the Pirates organization believes Soto has the fewest holes in his swing. Soto was out. He never touched the plate.
If you want a RH starting pitcher from the Giants, better focus on Matt Cain. Lincecum isn't going anywhere. Cain could be had, but probably not for less than a couple of good hitting prospects and a pitching prospect to potentially replace him in the Giants rotation. I could see some interest Eric Patterson, Gallagher and Hoffpauir or Patterson, Veal, Pie for Cain and Winn.
Roto style keeper league. I was offered. Jose Reyes Nate McClouth Francisco Rodriguez Joe Saunders for Hanley Ramirez Jeremy Hermida I declined. I'm guessing that was a wise move, but input?
Like the lineup. Sean needs a good, quick 1st inning to set the tone. Started off well Sunday until the 2 out walk. First inning will probably be his toughest until he tires (which should be later than the 5th today). Get out of the inning unscored upon and I think the Cubs will score early and Sean will be pitching with the lead as long as he can hold it.
Ronny has had great success vs. Gorzelanny and Duke in his career. I'd love for him to get a couple starts this weekend. Theriot, Ramirez and Fukudome could all be due for a rest. I'd love to rest Theriot today, because of his weak numbers vs. Gorzo. Rest ARam tomorrow, because you don't need as much offense with Zambrano on the mound. And rest Fukudome on Sunday, if needed.
It's actually really hard to give up 10 hits and walk 5 in 4 innings. Usually a guy that wild is so unhittable, because he's out of the zone so much hitters swing at bad pitches in order to even be able to swing the bat. But throwing that many out of the zone and then getting hit that hard when you do throw it in the zone is rare. Opponents went 10 for 19 against Samardzija (2 outs recorded on the bases, one GIDP). For a line of .526/.625/.737 against him last night. Somebody convince me that this guy is a legit prospect, because I'm not seeing it and haven't since he was at Notre Dame.
2007 Gorzo vs. the Cubs 19.2 IP, 24 hits, 8 ER, 6 BB, 15 K, 1.53 WHIP (includes two 7 inning outings, giving up 1 ER on 6 hits) 2006 Gorzo vs. the Cubs 8 IP, 2 hits, 0 runs, 2 BB, 7 SO, 0.50 WHIP
If the Pirates want to beat the Cubs at any point this year, this is the series they better do it. A rookie in his 2nd start and Jason Marquis in the same series. They have been pitching decently of late. Series will be a lot tougher than last time the Pirates came to Chicago.
