  1. I think Beasley's a legit 6'9". But if he does measure shorter, that makes the Bulls decision a lot easier. He's probably easily a better player than Deng, but if he's 6'8" or shorter, he's not a 4, which should make him pretty redundant on a team with Deng, Nocioni, Thabo, and Thomas.
  2. Should be a good lineup for Sean to face then, if his breaking ball is on. Gallagher should be able to keep the Dodgers in check if he can keep Pierre off the bases. Loney and Ethier may also provide a challenge, but if he can stay in on Loney and up and away from Ethier he should do well.
  3. Gerald Perry has been a pretty good hitting coach. But man, would I love Von Joshua involved in the majors more.
  4. It bothers me that all the losses we had on our last road trip were winnable games, with either a sizable lead in the earlier innings or a lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. I hate to say it, but if we would have just got beat that would be easier to take. But blowing two leads in the 9th in a row, and having 3, 4 run leads in Houston and blowing them. Difficult to handle that crap. The leads in Houston were 2-0 and 3-0. Neither is a sizable lead, especially given how early in the game those leads were.
  5. Every team is bad on the road right now. There are some very heavy splits in the NL in home/away records. Cubs are middle of the pack on the road. The only real bad series losses on the road have been Pittsburgh and Washington. Losing 2 of 3 to good teams like St. Louis (ugh), Houston (ugh), and Philly isn't terrible. They faced Cincy's top 3 on the road and lost also.
  6. i don't know. who's the better pro? michael beasley or drew neitzel? neither are pros yet and they don't play the same position. but i'd wager that there are far more examples of successful, high major players that put up great stats in college and succeed in the nba than there are examples of players who put up good stats and succeed. furthermore, the lesser team argument doesn't hold water. beasley shot a high percentage, meaning he wasn't just running down the lane and throwing shots up because his teammates sucked, nor was he shooting every time down the court due to a lack of a better alternative. i don't see how the rebounds are really a function of his team being bad, either. his team wasn't a good shooting team, but it wasn't incredibly bad, at least not enough to be able to point to team shooting percentage and say "there are your rebounds". lastly, as i've said before, beasley got double and triple-teamed all year because his team was bad. he still managed to score a lot of points and shoot a high percentage while dominating the boards. i don't really know what there's not to like--or a reason to be praying for rose. Did you read the part of the post you didn't quote? I clearly said, I don't know how anyone can say one of Beasley/Rose is better than the other.
  7. Hendry said on Sunday's broadcast that Hill is scheduled to start on Friday.
  8. Colvin is heating up. I think, for the first time, he is finally showing his true potential. Looks like the patience has come around (9 walks in last 10 games). And the hits have followed (6 for his last 16). He has had a solid year at home where he will be for 9 of the next 14 games. He also has just 4 Ks over that time.
  9. So I suppose you're a big supporter of frostwyrm's "trade Lee" idea? Lee doesn't suck though. So, no.
  10. Interesting test of wills today. The Cubs shouldn't lose to a team with Mark Sweeney hitting 5th in their lineup. The Dodgers shouldn't lose to a team with Jim Edmonds anywhere in the lineup. Something's gotta give. Wow. Jeff Kent is pretty crappy now.
  11. Pierre actually has a .351 OBP this year. If he would have been that good as a Cub, I wouldn't have so much hatred for him..... yes, I would he was a freaking Marlin.
  12. I thought his name was spelled Jeremi? Actually it is on that card. What a sad story. He was one of the guys I always rooted for, even after his years as a Cub. Kid had a good arm, just could not stay healthy. Feel bad for him and his family.
  13. I'm feeling good right now. I think I ultimately need a couple trades to add 1 more bat and 1 more starter, but I'm now all alone for best record in the league and am in the top 5 in scoring, with a decent margin over the 6th place team in points. And have won 4 straight, all against teams who I feel are true contenders in the league (NSBB, GHS, HBC, Tootie).
  14. As if that site needed another reason to be the best on the internet.
  15. Poor Edison. Has to start Friday and throw again on Sunday. I would feel bad for Reds fans, except they were warned.

  17. Head-to-head league. 2 games per week schedule (play 2 teams each for a week, at the same time). Basic scoring for a points league....except, pitching is largely based on wins and saves (10 points for each). My roster is: C- AJ Pierzynski 1B- Derrek Lee 2B- Utley SS- Furcal 3B- D Wright OF- Beltran OF- BJ Upton OF- Burrell U- Adrian Gonzalez SP- Zambrano SP- Halladay SP- Lester SP- Volquez SP- Jered Weaver RP- Lyon RP- F Cordero Bench- Loney, Markakis, Cain, Joba, Olsen. Only trade I made was getting Cain and AJP for Brian Bannister. The rest of my starters were drafted, outside of Volquez who I picked up on waivers when we added an extra bench spot before the season. The Joba and Olsen spots have been add/drops throughout the season, but none have really seen the starting roster yet other than a 2 start week. Believe it or not, this team is 12-4, and has the high score in 5 of the 8 weeks so far. Thanks to the 2-game schedule, I lead the league by over 500 points in total scoring. Don't like the scoring system really, but I don't mind taking people's money. FYI, this league is w/ people I work with. I also won the same baseball league last year, though I cruised to win my division at 2 games over .500 then won close games in the playoffs. Then I won the football league last year, nearly going undefeated.
  18. Anyone that thinks stats come even close to determining the better player.....do you think Tyler Hansbrough is a better pro than Derrick Rose? Also, people arguing either way that one is better than the other really doesn't have anything to base their opinion on. You can argue Beasley put up better stats in college, but he clearly had a lesser team around him. You can argue Beasley was the #1 recruit coming out of HS, but Rose was a close #3 (Eric Gordon in between) according to Rivals. You can argue that Rose won games and made his team better, but he only helped an already 33-4 team that lost in the Elite 8 and helped them go 38-2 and lose in the championship game. Beasley played in a tougher conference. Rose played more big games. Rose played the tougher competition in highschool. There's really not much to argue on anyway that one player is clearly better than the other, or even that one player will be clearly better than the other. I think Rose's stock is helped a ton by the fact that the last couple years have seen Deron Williams and CP3 develop into the league's top PGs. Beasley's is probably down a bit because of all the talent at the PF/SF positions and the fact there haven't been any lottery picks in the last few years to become stars.
  19. What the hell? I don't know either. I went to standings and it showed you (GHS) lost. Then I went back to the scoreboard and it said you lost by .75 instead of winning by .25. Now I kinda feel sorry for you I guess.
  20. Dude, you won. I feel bad for Matt.
  21. San Diego is giving up too much. Cleveland too little. I would like Westbrook a lot. But I agree with Vance that Cubs/Indians don't matchup well. Indians could use some help in corner IF or OF.
  22. There were runners on first and second with one out. Lou brought Eyre in to face LaRoche. After LaRoche struck out, Lou decided to bring Wuertz in to try to get the next guy out and end the inning. Since he only had Wuertz and Ascanio left, Lou had to use Wuertz for more than 1 inning. Wuertz was due up 3rd the next inning, so the only way to keep Wuertz from batting was to doubleswitch. Blanco was the last guy remaining on the bench, and based on where the Cubs were in the lineup (they had just finished with Ramirez the previous inning) Lee was the only candidate to be replaced. Lou gambled that the Cubs could score before they got all the way back around to Lee's spot. The mistake lies in bringing in Wuertz, not the double switch. If you let Eyre pitch to one more batter, you can then pinch-hit for him the next inning and then bring in Wuertz. Once Lou pulled Eyre, the double switch made sense, but I'd rather gamble that Eyre can get the next batter out then be forced into that decision. I actually thought that the decision to bunt with Blanco was a poor one. He had walked the previous two hitters. Blanco is better against left-handers than right-handers. It was a 1-0 count. I'd let him take a strike (showing bunt) and hope that the pitcher either continues to be wild or attempts to groove one over expecting the bunt attempt. Agreed on all counts. Eyre doesn't have horrible splits vs. RH hitters, if I remember correctly. You gamble that he can get Michaels with 2 outs. It did add insult to injury, though, that Blanco was just called on to bunt anyway.
  23. I like Ibanez. I also see him being able to hit for more power in Wrigley (and the NL Central) than he has in Seattle. He does play RF like a 1B, though.
