  1. Only 48 pitches, not horrible. I assumed he would throw more than 2 pitches to get out of that inning w/ 2 outs left to go.
  2. In Thursday night's broadcast and again in last night's broadcast the great Vin Scully mentioned that 1908 was the CUBS only World Series Championship. You used to babysit Vin, didn't you, Fred? :D ouch!
  3. He deserves it so far this year. Of course, Chipper deserved it last year and didn't get it.
  4. I had the chance about 2 weeks ago to trade DLee for Carlos Quentin in fantasy. Kicking myself now.
  5. The fact that he looked bad yesterday is overshadowing the fact that this statement is not true.
  6. Ah, good times. Wood, Prior, Zambrano in the rotation. Corey Patterson was hitting .319 at the point and was hitting 3rd and on his way to a possible All-Star game, before getting hurt. Hee Seop Choi had shown flashes of greatness. Aramis was soon to be acquired.
  7. You can read the Cliff Notes version of this post, directly above! :D I'm trying to get some collusion for Tim and ABuck NOT to win this league, but people still trade with them.
  8. The similarities between Eric Patterson and Delwyn Young for the Dodgers are striking. Both top 2B prospects, with doubts that they could handle 2B defensively (admittedly, EP was never as bad as Young was early in his career). Both got time in the OF. The advantage Young has in power is negated by the speed of Patterson. Both probably strike out a little too much. Patterson Ks too much for a guy lacking power. Young Ks too much for a non-stud power hitter. Career lines in the minors. Young- .303/.362/.512. Patterson- .299/.364/.464. Bottom line is, Eric probably projects to a utility player like Delwyn.
  9. Thing that's most troubling about Hill is that he has had severe control problems in the past. Last night's line looked a lot like a pitching line of his in Lansing. He was unhittable, but couldn't find the plate to save his life. I'm guessing he wasn't as wild, as he had several balls to the backstop in the low minors, but 7 walks is bad no matter where you throw it. The fact that he doesn't seem to be that or be completely off target like Ankiel was, makes me feel better though.
  10. I don't know. The point of having a trade public is so other owners have the right to VETO the trade. Not to see who can top the best offer. You can personally auction off players to the highest bidder, but I don't think it should be mandatory. We have the "On the block" page. Everyone should know who is available and what every team is looking for. And I'd imagine most trades are made involving guys NOT necessarily on the block.
  11. 10 teams, 2 relief spots per team, plus the bench, but most people don't have backup closers, because we can use RP eligible starters there too (Brett Myers, Wellemeyer, etc).
  12. Beltran, Burrell, BJ Upton.
  13. Hill will hopefully get a chance to get on the mound today. Of course, he hasn't pitched since last Friday, thanks to a day off right before his turn and the rainout yesterday.....so, he'll probably have control problems. YAY! God has a sense of humor. Cubs probably have a strong shot at the playoffs this year, but the future keeps getting dimmer.
  14. Probably going to be the most telling start of Gallagher's career so far. This is the first team to see him twice. He didn't even face the same team twice in a season (including last year) out of the bullpen. Gallagher pitched well against LA last time out. He didn't face Kent or Martin that day, but Sean has dominated RH hitters this year and only gave up hits to the Dodgers LHs last time out. The key is to continue to get the ground balls, which he's been doing the last 3 times out. And I'm sure Lou would love to get another 7 innings out of him. Offense has gotta go for the kill. Score early, but then don't stop. Kuroda has proven to fall apart after about 80 pitches, so make him work early and push across a couple and the Cubs could put a good dent in the scoreboard.
  15. To add. I could replace Lyon from the waiver wire w/ Capps, Marmol, Fuentes, Borowski, or Franklin. And it's possible I could get Bedard from the guy instead of Pence. Also, it is a keeper league. Can keep 4 (only 2 SP), but you can't keep anyone drafted in the 1st 3 rounds, which leaves out Utley, Wright, and Lee.
  16. Couple interesting deals on the table. (What I give up is listed first) 1- Adrian Gonzalez for Justin Verlander and on of the DL'd Hafner/V. Wells/C. Pena 2- Brandon Lyon for Hunter Pence. This is a 10-team, head-to-head points league. Kinda wacky, because you get 10 points for a save, making closers pretty valuable. My team is currently 14-4 (play 2 games per week), with a very good shot of going 16-4 and claiming my 7th highest score week of the 10 played. My team has Utley, Wright, Gonzalez, DLee, Burrell, and Beltran all among the top 18 hitters in points. Also, have Volquez, Halladay, and Zambrano who are in the top 12 in SP points. This trade will give me Markakis, Loney (both on my bench right now), Pence, and the DL'd player of my choice competing for the U spot. Verlander competes w/ Lester, Cain, Joba and Weaver for my 4-5 starters spot. ' Should I do one, both, or leave well enough alone?
  17. Billingsley's ERA for today is 9, with a WHIP of 2.25, but has an 18 strikeout pace.
  18. Cubs have seemingly done a great job of getting that last hit of an inning. Seems that more often than not this team gets guys in to make a 1-run inning, a crooked number.
  19. This Texas/Cleveland series is one for the ages. Indians lead the series in scoring 39-38. Teams are averaging near 10 runs per game in that one. In a related note, Milton Bradley's probably not getting traded this year.
  20. I don't see anything wrong with that.
  21. Solid pitching day. Three guys going that I actually care about!
  22. Seriously? Can't blame him for it. The pen needs rest. Winning 1 game isn't as important as giving your shot to win in the future. Of course, if he was more concerned about saving his pen than any single win, his pen usage would be a lot different....including going w/ Howry last night instead of Marmol, who need(ed/s) more than 1 day.
  23. Not a good day for Mark Reed. Colvin did alright though.
