  1. Chipper barely made the walk to 1B yesterday. I don't think he will play tonight. At the very least, if he plays tonight, he most certainly won't play the day game tomorrow, 15 hours after tonight's ends.
  2. Aaron Cook along with Fuentes would be sweet.
  3. That is crazy talk. 11 pitchers! Are you kidding? 12 is pushing it as it is! I was hoping for a 14th, so the guys that don't play would have even more company.
  4. Fuentes would be a huge asset to the Cubs pen. I'm not sure how much Bob Howry has left in the tank. Lou's trust in him is probably starting to wane. Fuentes would allow Eyre to take the LOOGY role (both are good vs. RHs as well as LHs) and Fuentes would make a great 7th inning guy.
  5. not many roster spots for football. 3 keepers is enough. 4 is almost 1/2 the team.
  6. All 8 players had hits. All 8 either had a run scored or a RBI.
  7. That's because it's true. Four straight outings of exactly 2 ERs, and the one before that he walked 4 in 2 innings. I wonder what's the reason for him to have so many outings more than 1 inning. Every one except 1 has been an inning+ all the way to 2 2/3.
  8. Wells was on 3 days rest also. There's really nothing bad about his numbers. 2.01 ERA. 7 starts, 6 relief appearances. .207 opp avg. Walking less than 2.5 per 9. Striking out more than 8 per 9. More GBs than FBs, and he's not really a GB pitcher. As a starter, 38 IP, 26 hits, 5 ERs, 10 BBs, 33 Ks. ERA 1.18, WHIP 0.95.
  9. Mark Reed 1 for his last 20 with 1 walk and 10Ks. And this right after his 1st HR and right when he was looking like a pretty good hitter.
  10. Agreed. This ain't Matt Karchner people. CC would clearly make the Cubs the favorites to win the World Series. Whether they make it or not is besides the point. The Cubs didn't have a realistic shot to win it all last year. With CC they would. You have to do what it takes to get that.
  11. Eh, it's not that far off. Pretty much the same repetoir, if I can remember back when Carpenter pitched. Carpenter just does everything much better. Fastball has the same velocity (91-94), but more sink. Curve has more bite. Command is a little better. But obviously, Gallagher has some polishing up to do, which will make the stuff much closer. I think a key difference in the two, though, may be the 4 inches of height Carpenter has over Sean. Probably extremely optimistic to expect Gallagher to ever have that type of success, but Carpenter is one of the better comparisons out there.
  12. Except 75% of the nation wouldn't be able to watch Yeah, that really hurt the Cubs ability to build up a fan base the first 110 years of the franchise.
  13. Good news, East. I'm probably gonna lose this week.
  14. I'd rather see if Bradley can still play CF. However, I believe the way Bradley has played that Texas will hold onto him. He won't be expensive to sign. They don't really have anyone coming thru the system that he would be blocking. I'd say there's very little chance he gets traded at this point, unless a team is trading away a stud pitching prospect and more.
  15. Agreed. He's not Santana good, but I'd give up a whole bunch for him to pitch in a Cubs uniform for 2-3 months. Then if you consider the Cubs would get the comp picks, I can't think of many players that are NOT expendable, even if Sabathia is a rental.
  16. That and there's no way in hell the Cubs win the division by 25+ games, which they would have to do in order to clinch by September.
  17. Lyon is on my team. Capps is not. We only have 10 teams and 2 relief positions. 20 closers (most don't have a closer on the bench). That's 12 closers who aren't picked. On rosters are: Lyon, KRod, Wood, Sherrill, Papelbon, Valverde, Lidge, Rivera, Nathan, Cordero, Wagner, Street, Hoffman, Ryan, Saito, Gregg, Percival, Soria, Brian Wilson, Jenks, Percival, and Putz. Capps is right in the middle of this list w/ 10 above in points and 10 below. Only 2 were below him before the start of last week. And 8 Pirates fans in this league, they are a little cynical about the Pirates chances to win a game, thus getting Capps a save.
  18. And Marshall's done. 58 pitches, 42 strikes, 3 IP, 6 hits, 2 ER, 0 BBs, 4Ks, 4 GO/0 FO. He's not Rich Hill, but it's good to see him throw strikes. Woulda liked 4 innings on a 60-pitch limit, but not a horrible outing.
  19. Only 12 of them out of the zone. All 3 non-strikeout outs have been on the ground. Also, Eric Patterson just went deep, followed by a Pie pulling a Pierre.
  20. Yeah, on paper Forte sounds like he's another Benson clone. Call me crazy for not having too much faith on us drafting good offensive players. On paper? Forte is faster than Benson. He's longer and leaner. And most importantly he's not a beeyotch.
  21. Marshall with a good, but long 1st inning. Colby Rasmus refused to get out as he worked a 7-pitch double. 1 IP, 1 hit, 0 ERs, 0 BB, 2 Ks (looking). 19 pitches, 15 strikes. He's pounding the strikezone (doesn't that sound sexual?)
  22. I like Brenly a lot. But he uses his experience to much in a bad way. He talks about the DBacks and how he caught great pitchers. More specific examples. Stone knew more about the entire game from scouting, to mechanics, to the business end of the game. It wasn't until Stoney got cocky with it and thought he was good enough to coach, GM, and own a team at the same time that he got annoying.
  23. This is just about exactly how I feel. Me too.
  24. Numbers vs. Glavine are not bad. But they are amazing if you take out guys who have abotu a 0.00001% chance of batting vs. him tomorrow. Lieber, Dempster and Wood are 2-25 against Glavine. And you are looking at a .298/.377/.511 line. I didn't take out guys who are even remote possibilities to pinch hit against him. But it gets even better if you take out Zambrano, Fontenot, Edmonds, and Marquis.
