  1. It is going to suck 50 years from now when all the good numbers are retired. Maybe my grandchildren will live to see the days of number 101 patrolling centerfield.
  2. Uh oh, Pierzynski made the list... look out for the wrath of the White Sox fans. I especially enjoyed the guy who called into the Score yesterday asking whether they thought A.J. would make the Hall of Fame.
  3. The problem is that none of these lists are complete... so if he isn't on this one, maybe he'll be on the next one or the next one after that, or his brother's mistress's cousin will write a book in 10 years that contains damning evidence. Where does it end? The fact that a player isn't on the 2003 list in no way proves their innocence. All it proves is that they didn't fail a test at that time. I'm 99% convinced that Sosa used steroids, but I don't need a list to prove that to me and at this point I don't see any benefit in the continued leaking of names.
  4. Bonds yes, but ARod? It's likely that he would have made it, but he was only 26 years old, so he was by no means a guaranteed Hall of Famer.
  5. Time posted a really good article about Rick Helling, excerpted from the Joe Torre book. I had never heard this story before, but I definitely gained a lot of respect for Helling. http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1881350,00.html
  6. I hear ya... I don't care what the calendar says, those words mark the beginning of spring.
  7. Being indicted may be a bit harsh, but I can't believe how many Selig defenders there still are out there. Mike & Mike were gushing over him last week... I just don't get it.
  8. I don't believe that he would come back, but I'd love to see him pitch for another season.
  9. Does anyone know whether it is possible to get MLB Gameday Audio through the Nintendo DS web browser? I'm considering buying a DS and this would definitely be a deciding factor.
  10. (2) Field Box - 5/14 vs. Padres (2) UD Reserve - 6/21 vs. Indians (2) UD Reserve - 7/2 vs. Brewers (4) Bleachers - 7/25 vs. Reds (2) UD Box - 8/16 vs. Pirates Not all of my first choices, but I'm happy with the choices nonetheless... and only about $10 over budget. =D>
  11. I'm still waiting for my 3rd and 4th confirmations as well.. which seems to be a trend. The first two came in immediately. If I remember correctly this happened last year too. Being my available credit on my CC seems to reflect the purchase I think I'm alright I ordered 5 sets of tickets and only got confirmation from the last one, but my credit card reflects all 5 charges. I expect that the rest of the confirmations will trickle in throughout the day, nothing to be concerned about.
  12. Are you running 80 windows all on one PC? I had about 50 going between 2 PC's and it caused my internet connection to go down, so now I'm back to about 35.
  13. Some people don't feel the need to exploit other Cubs fans...others don't have the capital to spend on 6 tickets. Yep, exactly. Call me Un-American, I buy tickets to attend games, not to re-sell them.
  14. Not exactly a flattering picture. He has gone from rookie to 40 year old veteran all in one offseason!
  15. Someone needs to teach the folks at the CDC about reducing fractions.
  16. Deng hasn't done anything in the past 2 years to convince me that he will be an integral part of the core. Those are also 3 players that are below average defensively, especially Deng.
  17. I have exactly the opposite fear. I'm afraid that Paxson is under a lot of pressure to make a deal and will give up a lot, including Thomas, for Stoudamire. That will essentially take the Bulls out of the 2010 free agent running and I don't know that Rose & Stoudamire will ever be enough to win a title.
  18. I can... He is a selfish player in a contract year.
  19. Why is Gordon handling the ball?
  20. If the Bulls trade Thomas for Stoudamire, it will only get worse...
  21. And that will be $63 million tied up in 4 players... 2 above average starting pitchers, an unproductive outfielder, and another outfielder on the downside of his career. If neither Ramirez nor Bradley opt out of their contracts, that puts the Cubs at around $90 million for a total of 6 players. Either way, that's a very significant portion of the payroll for a small number of non-superstar players. How is it overreacting to worry about those contracts?
  22. You, sir, have won an entire bag of internets. A big budget has covered up a lot of Hendry's shortcomings. If he was in a mid-market he'd have been canned long ago. Yes, I know the whole Aram, Nomar, Lee, Harden thing was possible BECAUSE of a big payroll, but if we had someone competent in there, I bet we could have gotten those guys and a few other complimentary pieces that would be looking mighty good right now. Oh, and maybe our farm system wouldn't be the equivalent of a bunch of kindergarteners playing whiffle ball. This is a very good point. Hendry has made some big mistakes that would have crippled a team with a smaller payroll, although one could argue if that was the case he wouldn't have had the money to make the mistake in the first place. I still think Hendry has done a decent job, but the worst is yet to come with some of his backloaded contracts. Either the team will get worse or the fans will have to shoulder the load of bad contracts.
  23. Very true. The Cubs dominated the playoffs last year, so why would they even think about improving the team?
  24. Big step back from Plesac, but I can live with it.
  25. I doubt it, but I'm thinking that if this move may have been to free up Marshall if they value him more than Olson.
