  1. Whoever wins is in line for a first round knockout. I agree. There is a huge drop-off between the 3rd and 4th teams in the AL.
  2. Who is left for long relief tonight? Guzman?
  3. This must be a tentative schedule... There's no way the Cubs and Mets play two 12:30 games.
  4. Are these passwords in any way linked to the address of the person who was selected in the lottery? I guess what I'm asking is do they check to make sure the addresses match, or could someone hypothetically use another person's password?
  5. Nothing for me yet... So much for my plan of selling NLDS tickets to partially fund World Series tickets.
  6. Drayton McLane must be at it again...
  7. I know exactly where you're talking about... any idea what they cleared all that land for?
  8. If Gaudin is healthy, then I think he makes the playoff roster along with both Howry and Marquis... which probably makes Marshall the odd man out.
  9. Kruk is ranting again tonight about how he is surprised that the Cubs let Zambrano finish the game and then he went into how unfair it was to the Astros to have to leave their families and go play in Milwaukee, as if their families were in imminent danger and in need of protection. I'm really tired of hearing about it. They had 2 days off and the storm was over with when they left for Milwaukee. I'm assuming if any of those players had family members injured or in need of help, then they wouldn't have played, so stop making excuses for them.
  10. Just now? I just looked and can only get singles Could they possibly have sold all those tickets already? If so, I will admit to being wrong and they were justified in charging premium prices. They are talking about Tuesday night at Wrigley. Ohhhh, now that makes more sense.

  12. After 2 days of no baseball, it's going to suck if I have to listen to tomorrow night's game on the radio.
  13. In light of UM's most recent post, I'm retracting the first sentence of this. Wow. Talk about gouging. Yeah, that pricing is ridiculous when we're dealing with a less than 24 hour window requiring people to make plans on short notice... but I wonder if it was part of the agreement with Houston that they wanted to charge top dollar to maximize their revenue. Why is it gouging? It is the same as they would charge for other games at the stadium. I don't see why they would feel it necessary to give a discounted price. Not like anyone is forced to go if they don't want to and/or can't afford it. Because it's exceptionally late notice. Of course nobody is forced to go. That's hardly the point. Someone here said last year when they hosted an Indians-Angels series, tickets were $10. So, here, they saw an opportunity to make more money off the Cub fans. That's gouging. Gouging would be charging over the normal price for a ticket. So if this game had been announced 3 months ago as some kind of neutral site special event it would have been ok to charge these prices? I don't get it. Clearly they charged $10 last year because a) very few people from Cleveland or LA were going to travel to see the game and b) it was an early season contest and the interest wasn't as high. In this case they don't have to lowball the price to get a reasonable amount of fans in the seats so why would they? You do know that MLB is a for profit business, right? I remember getting tickets to the '98 one game playoff and there was no discounted pricing even though it was "exceptionally late notice". A do or die playoff game is really no comparison to tomorrow's game.

Not like anyone is forced to go if they don't want to and/or can't afford it. I feel it would be a better business move to charge a reasonable ticket price and get more fans into the stadium, where they can make the money back and more on concessions. Cubs fans will certainly follow their team, but in this case I think they are overestimating the ability of tens of thousands of people to rearrange their schedules in less than 24 hours.
  15. Any word on the TV broadcast for tomorrow night?

  17. I'm guessing that would make travel extremely difficult, not so much for the Cubs who are a short drive from Milwaukee, but for Houson who would have to play a double-header and then fly to Florida afterwards. I'm ok with the compromise of playing 2 games in Milwaukee for now.
  18. The Astros players are complaining about the Cubs having home field advantage in Milwaukee, but wouldn't there also be Brewers fans there rooting against the Cubs? Anywhere else they go, the Cubs will have a virtually unanimous crowd.
  19. Umm... so possibly the hottest team in baseball is sitting around waiting. Wouldn't the best case scenario be for them to get these games in while they are playing so well, rather than sitting around for 3 days?
  20. Can anyone imagine Roger Goodell or David Stern going 4 days without making a decision on a critical time-sensitive issue? It is to the point where the players union really needs to get involved and force a decision.
  21. Paul Sullivan says the Cubs won't travel today... http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/09/cubs-waiting-fo.html
  22. I think it may be just the opposite. If Selig decides to move the games to the end of the season, it's very likely that the Cubs will have alreadly clinched the division and will be fielding a team full of minor leaguers for the make-up games. If the Astros are still in the Wild Card race at that time, it would give them a decided advantage.
  23. Someone posted the stats before, but I believe that a majority of Lee's home runs this season were hit with the wind blowing out at Wrigley. As the weather begins to change in late September and into the playoffs, I don't expect any sort of power production out of him whatsoever.
