Ok, I keep hearing that a relief pitcher HAS to be able to pitch back to back days to be useful and I'm getting a little tired of that narrative.
There are 8+ guys in a bullpen. Is it really that critical that every single guy has to be able to pitch back to back? I understand that ideally everyone in the pen is available everyday, but that seems to be oversimplifying things a bit. I think you can afford to carry a reliever that can't pitch back to back if they can be a productive pitcher once every 2-3 days.
