  1. I tried to turn the game on the radio on my way home tonight and they had the Bulls game on 670 instead. I found the Cubs game on 104.3 FM only, which is mostly just static. Are they really going to preempt Cubs broadcasts on their high-powered AM station for Bulls games that nobody wants to listen to?
  2. And at only 24 years old, there is a pretty high likelihood of a 3rd down the road if he has any sort of lengthy career.
  3. Is there still some ambiguity as to whether this is full blown Tommy John or another type of repair? Or do they not know until they get into the elbow?
  4. And this sucks. I hate that young superstars like Paul Skenes are almost guaranteed to lose 1-2 years of their prime at some point when the elbow finally explodes. But that's just the reality of baseball today and I don't think there are any real solutions. Maybe we get to a point where doctors can medically brace the ligaments BEFORE any sign of injury, I don't know. But then we're almost into Base Wars-esque cybernetics territory.
  5. That's fine, but if he's going to get hurt he's going to get hurt. No reason to waste innings in the minors if he is capable of coming up and getting outs.
  6. Potentially losing 2-ish years of Cade on the front end after already losing 1 year on the back end due to him finishing 2nd in ROY certainly isn't ideal.
  7. So many missed shots... Missed threes, short jumpers, layups. The ball just wouldn't go in the basket. UConn didn't shot much better, but they got a few bounces that Illinois just didn't get. That was definitely a winnable game, but not with the team shooting like that. People seem to think the program is on an upward trajectory and will be back soon. I do agree that Brad Underwood has done a great job and will continue to assemble competitive teams, but I'm not so confident in another deep tournament run in the near future. It's just incredibly definitely to get to a Final Four and you have to take advantage of it when you get there. Unfortunately, this team didn't. Great season overall, but I'm back to thinking I will never see Illinois win a National Championship, despite them having multiple opportunities to do so.
  8. Vegas is, and they know more than the media talking heads.
  9. I would leave Brown alone. Let him settle into a role. It's probably Rea.
  10. And they somehow traded Ayo for next to nothing, when he was clearly worth more than that.
  11. Even in the best case scenario where Horton is ok, this still sucks because now he'll be handled with kid gloves for the rest of the season rather than ramping up to being a full season ace. And the worst case, well, Cabrera sure better stay healthy.
  12. Get rid of the horsefeathers rule then, because that is just stupid.
  13. As the week goes on, I'm getting more and more excited for Saturday night. This is a game that Illinois can win, and I think they will. Then it gets much more difficult, but not impossible. There are 2 sporting events I have always hoped to see in my lifetime. A Cubs World Series was #1, and Illinois basketball winning the National Championship would be a very close 1a. A Cubs World Series always felt like it was going to happen eventually, and it did. Surviving the NCAA tournament to win a college basketball championship just feels so much more unlikely for a non "blue blood" school. Maybe Illinois has 1 team every 10 years with a legitimate shot of winning, but one bad night or one tough match-up and it's all over. Whatever happens, it was a great season, but I can't help but think of what it might become.
  14. Is the winner going to be the clear favorite? Sure. But "fairly certain" they win the championship? Any one of these teams can beat the other on any given night. Nothing is certain.
  15. The entire all region team was from the B1G.
  16. I certainly hope not. Conforto is very possibly cooked. Carlson is likely a more productive player.
  17. Scott Kingery is going to make us long for the days of Vidal Brujan.
  18. Wait, is Carlson on the team? Or is it Kingery instead?
  19. Nice. Now do Nico.
  20. I would probably let the Ivisic twins go if their NIL demands are anything significant. That money can be better spent elswhere. Bring back Mirk, Stojakovic, and Davis, then find some athletic types to fill the holes. MAYBE Stojakovic takes a little less to stay at Illinois because he doesn't want to start over on a 4th team in 4 years?
  21. The path just opened up for Illinois, but Houston stands in their way. Thursday night's game just got even bigger, knowing that the next one after that will be a very winnable game if they can get there.
  22. Houston is (always) a very tough match-up for Illinois. I'm not optimistic about Thursday's game, but you never know.
