  1. Counsell isn't getting fired this season, he isn't being replaced in the offseason, and the Cubs won't likely consider firing him next season either. But do we have any official info on how long Jed was extended for? If we assume this is the first year of a four year extension, he has 1-2 years before his seat gets really hot. If the Cubs don't make a serious run at the World Series in the next few years, Jed isn't going to let Counsell get to the end of his deal. If Counsell plays out the string through 2028, the timing would be right for the Cubs to clean house and put a new person in charge to make the next manager hire. All that to say, the timeline for Counsell to be fired is probably the end of NEXT season if the Cubs continue to underperform, or possibly the middle of the 2028 season. But, if the current trend continues, someone else on the staff has to go, and soon.
  2. JD couldn't even get "They don't have a lot if firepower in their lineup" out of his mouth before that happened.
  3. At least when the Cubs signed Heyward, he was 26 years old. They gambled that they could unlock something in his hitting and it just didn't work out. I still don't fault the move though. Alex Bregman is horsefeathers 32 and giving him a 5 year deal at that age seems to go against everything the Cubs have preached. I'm certainly not writing him off yet, but the arrow is pointing down.
  4. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/05/18/draftkings-closing-wrigley-field-sportsbook/ I can't imagine that Wrigley location staying open as just a sports bar with its current layout. It has a lot of TV's, but all the personality of an infield tarp. There is no reason anyone would go there over any of the other neighborhood bars. So what's next for that space?
  5. Why do we have to pretend Taillon did the team a huge favor by pitching... 5 innings? Be better.
  6. I like the TNF to MNF. That's almost like an extra bye week in between.
  7. #15 plus next year's first? Too much? Not enough? I would do it.
  8. A few years ago I went down the rabbit hole of trying to find actual archived radio broadcasts of Cubs games, but I'll check this out too!
  9. It may very well be my Illini-tinted glasses talking, but if Boozer is the guy remaining at 4, I would rather have Keaton Wagler.
  10. So the Bulls have picks #4, 15, and 37. Let's see how they screw this up.
  11. My bad, I looked at the standings and thought their games were over... But yes 😄
  12. Pfft. They aren't gonna hit 19 losses until sometime in August.
  13. By the way, the NL Central went 4-1 today. Now 31 games over .500
  14. Pretty incredible. After the initial 10 game winning streak and subsequent 3 game losing streak, I'm willing to bet most of us thought "well, the injuries may catch up to us a bit and we're coming back to reality now." To turn right back around and win another 10 in a row, this is quite a run.
  15. I don't really like him hitting anywhere, but he has to hit somewhere!
  16. Speaking of slumps, Bregman has been the worst hitter in the lineup for awhile now.
  17. Welp, Palencia's gonna throw like 4 pitches and be unavailable tomorrow.
