  1. First real bad throw from Caleb today.
  2. Yeah, the Bears outplayed the Rams and don't have anything to show for it.
  3. I was watching at a restaurant without any sound, but it definitely looked like an INT to me. I didn't even realize there was any question about it.
  4. I would be ok with a combination tax/cap system. Call it the "Dodger cap". Keep a modified luxury tax system in place up to a certain level, then a hard cap at some very forgiving dollar amount that may only impact 2 or 3 teams. Combine that with a salary floor. That could end up giving more total money to the players while also stopping teams from completely abusing the system. The only problem... It doesn't really save the owners any money and I don't think their motivation is altruistic to improve the quality of the product on the field.
  5. How would a cap and floor system possibly not benefit competition? No, it doesn't solve every problem, but it lops off the outliers at the top, and especially the bottom, to bring them closer to the pack.
  6. Seriously though, I'm not buying any of the "well, actually, a salary cap would be a bad thing" arguments anymore. Combined with a salary floor, it is a necessity if MLB wants to be taken seriously. The Dodgers are playing within the rules, but the rules need to be changed.
  7. The joke's on you, Dodgers fans. Those books aren't clean at all!
  8. So $60 million a year PLUS the luxury tax means the Dodgers are essentially paying about $120 million a year for him? Yes, there are probably deferrals that bring the amount down a LITTLE, but it will still be north of $100 million. Remember when we thought the Cubs just signed a big contract? The Dodgers just went out and committed about 3 times that amount per year. We aren't even remotely fishing in the same waters.
  9. Are we forgetting how the offensive line got better when Benedet replaced Jones at LT?
  10. I wish they would extend Nico, but I just don't see it happening. I doubt they want 3/4 of their infield tied up on expensive long term deals. They will almost certainly look to fill 2B cheaply with Shaw or someone else like Triantos rather than pay significant money to Nico.
  11. It doesn't to me. He is easily better than the pair of Illinois freshmen who went 20 and 21 last year.
  12. Many electric vehicles can't get decent AM reception due to interference so they started leaving AM radio out entirely.
  13. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/01/14/sports-station-the-score-fm-simulcast/ This makes sense with AM tuners being phased out entirely in many newer vehicles. They already have an HD Radio channel, but that is basically only accessible within the city.
  14. I tend to agree, but I have accepted that likely isn't going to happen.
  15. Let the video board arms race continue! https://www.news-gazette.com/sports/illinois-to-boast-largest-video-board-in-college-football/article_8fd730ad-bc59-4c41-9474-462d9eaf906d.html
  16. Exactly. Nico's value to the team alone would be incredibly difficult to replace. Add in the fact that he has the QO draft pick coming back to the Cubs next year and I just don't see how there is any deal that makes sense.
  17. Nothing would kill all the momentum of the Cabrera and Bregman moves like trading Nico. Outside of the Cubs wanting to use that money to put toward a corner OF like Tucker or Bellinger (they won't), there is simply no reason to trade Nico unless a team makes an offer they absolutely can't refuse. I do think the Bregman signing probably reduces the chances of a Nico extension to near-zero though.
  18. Noice. Baseball camp will be finished right before game time and 5:30 is about the perfect time for pizza and football. Can't wait!
  19. That hook and hold call in the Illinois game was baffling, and almost gave the game to Iowa. MAYBE there was a little bit of a hook by Wagler, but it looked like he was getting pushed down more than anything. Iowa's coach "appealed", and after a 4 minute review the refs decided it was a hook and hold flagrant on Wagler. Instead of Illinois getting 2 free throws, Iowa got 2 free throws instead and then got the ball back after. No matter how many times I watch it, I still can't tell exactly what happened, but there is no possible way there was enough evidence there to make such a game-altering call. The rule is stupid to begin with. It was two guys battling for the ball. If you think the foul was on Wagler, fine, then make it a common foul, but games shouldn't be getting decided by a referee's interpretation of a guy getting his arm grabbed slightly. Let the players decide the game and stop with the nonsensical reviews and flagrant foul calls.
  20. It better be the late game or else I'll be stuck at my son's baseball camp.
  21. PCA is going to be out there a large majority of the time. The Cubs aren't platooning their gold glove CF. But I think they need a semi-dependable non-Alcantara OF option so they aren't completely screwed when/if someone gets hurt.
  22. Mike Tauchman seems like a really good fit for this team on a cheap 1 year deal. They need a body who can competently fill an outfield spot in the event of injury and a left handed bat off the bench.
  23. Also, the prognosis may be different for an offensive lineman compared to a receiver/running back/defensive back that requires more speed and change of direction. But any time you're dealing with a knee injury for a guy Trapilo's size, it is scary.
  24. That sucks about Trapilo. What is the timeline on recovery from that injury? Will he be ready by the start of the season?
