    It sucks that we are completely dependent on the other team making a mistake on offense. That is the only hope really.

    Caleb has had a couple balls come out of his hand weird tonight. As soon as that last pass left his hand, it just didn't look right.

    It puts so much pressure on the offense because you can't afford to have a non-scoring possession when the defense consistently allows long drives.

    By no means am I an Addison Russell fan and I couldn't tell you anything he has done in the last 5 years. I do know he did some really bad things over an extended period of time prior to that. Maybe this is a bit too soon, but what if he has turned his life around? I do think we need to be willing to give people a chance to come back from their past transgressions. He may still be a scumbag, but maybe he isn't. He was a big part of the 2016 team though, and if he has taken steps forward in his life, I'm ok with him being included in events celebrating that team.

    I guess my question has been answered. Addison Russell is on the attendee list for this year's Convention.

    I don't want a lesser player now simply because we don't have to pay him later. So if it's Bellinger over Tucker or Bichette simply because the Cubs don't have to pay Bellinger as much TOTAL money, that is dumb.

    The problem there is the teams who are willing to deal quality bats at the deadline aren't the same teams who will be looking for veteran SP help.

    Trading Caissie does create a bit of a future roster problem, but it's a fixable one. Caissie was the guy most likely projected to be the future RF. With Happ and Suzuki both in the last year of their deals, there isn't anyone in the organization who can reasonably fill one of those corner outfield spots. MAYBE Alcantara, but his bat is still a big question mark. The Cubs are going to have to spend some significant money on the Outfield, either this year, next year, or both.

    You can, but you won't find many 22 year olds with a bat like Ballasteros. He is the type of guy you find a place for.

    I disagree. The Cubs currently have a hole at DH, assuming Seiya slides back to RF. And I haven't written him off as a future catcher either.
