  1. I don't think you can go into the season with that being the case. Even if it isn't a starter, there has to be another corner OF bat in the mix.
  2. I have less confidence in him as a starter, but I still see him as a potential high leverage bullpen arm. Especially when much of the pen still lacks velocity, he could fill that gap.
  3. That feels a bit light to me, but I'll take it. I wouldn't be surprised to see Assad in there as well.
  4. Yeah, I think it has to be Caissie plus. I would have rather it been Shaw as the main piece, for various reasons, but I doubt that will be the case.
  5. Out of all those, I just don't like the Bellinger fit. He is fine, but he is a much better fit for Yankee Stadium.
  6. Not at all. If they put a hard cap in, I bet it won't even affect the Dodgers in the immediate term. It would probably be phased in with exceptions for teams that have already committed money above the cap. Clearly the Dodgers aren't worried about it, nor should the Cubs be.
  7. And that is great, all things being equal. If there are 2 teams with the same payroll, you would prefer to be the one who is getting more value out of their assets. But in reality, things are never that simple. Teams that spend more don't need to get as much value per dollar out of their players and can afford to take risks in their spending. To me, that is one of the big problems with the Cubs' approach. They are so afraid of potentially bad contracts that they also are extremely unlikely to ever sign players to historically good contracts (think players like Ohtani, Bryce Harper). If you are always fishing in the 2nd tier waters, you may often come out ahead, and the Cubs have been really good about maximizing value on those types of players, but they are going to need to continue hitting on those deals year after year.
  8. I don't think there is any world where this works: 2 rookie left handed hitters sharing the DH spot. It's more likely to be something like a Ballasteros/Austin platoon.
  9. That's a typo, he's actually the eating coach.
  10. I would prefer not to face the Rams, but neither Philadelphia nor Carolina (especially) scares me.
  11. I was thinking the same thing. Punting the ball there felt like nearly a sure thing for the Lions to run out the clock and score.
  12. But they made PCA a lowball offer last year, so there's that.
  13. Extend Nico, hope one of the in-house options fills LF or RF, then sign someone to fill the remaining corner OF spot.
  14. Has there been any discussion of opt outs being a topic of consideration for the upcoming CBA negotiations? Some sort of limitation on when/how many opt outs can be included in a contract?
  15. It does set up a potentially fascinating scenario where nobody is signing players prior to the CBA resolution, then the Cubs end up having to fill their roster in a short period of time whenever the two sides finally come to an agreement.
  16. But that's what they wanted. "Clean books" going into 2027. So let's not pretend now they suddenly consider that a problem.
  17. Unless I'm missing something, there are no bowl games on network TV today. Has that ever been the case before?
  18. That's the part I don't like. The Cubs continue to expend other resources rather than simple spending money.
  19. Is there a generally accepted dollar amount that an opt out is worth? In other words, how much more would a team have had to pay him to remove one or more opt outs from the deal?
  20. Obviously we have to wait and see how the rest of the offseason plays out, but having one year of Imai is better than not having another quality starting pitcher in the rotation. If they sign or trade for another high-end starter, then it's a moot point, but we will see what happens.
  21. I'm really shocked we haven't heard anything substantial yet. We HAVE to know something tomorrow. Even if it isn't an official signing announcement, there is no way we can get to the final day without anyone knowing anything.
  22. I don't think it matters. The ball wasn't catchable anyway.
  23. No way the Bears can rest players next week unless they are less than 100%. You just can't concede possible home field advantage opportunities beyond the first round.
  24. It's probably REALLY hard to execute, especially after the hook and lateral, but I was hoping for them to snap the ball and throw a quick pass immediately to the outside rather than spiking the ball. Maybe you catch the defense not expecting the play, and if it's incomplete there might still be 1 second left on the clock.
  25. I really thought the Bears had them on that hook and lateral. Gutsy call and it almost worked.
