  1. If depends if they find him or Ascanio first when digging through the cob webs. How long will it take the Cubs to figure out that they have needed an extra pinch hitter many more times than they have needed a 12th pitcher?
  2. You think that's bad... I already have tickets and my hotel room bought and paid for the series in Pittsburgh in September. It's looking like that might turn out to be a downer of a trip.
  3. Whatever is wrong with the home plate umpire, this sucks for him. He was so close to being off the field.
  4. That sounds like a deal Hendry might make. Let Wood go and get his big contract, then trade for him at a larger salary than what he would have taken to stay with the Cubs in the first place.
  5. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-01-cubs-bits-chicagojun01,0,3131110.story I think we all knew this was coming, but that doesn't make it infuriate me any less. I'm tired of this organization making so many decisions based on the whether someone bats or throws left-handed. With the exception of last night's game, Marshall has been solid all year. How often do you see a team take a guy out of their rotation to fill a hole in middle relief? Turning Marshall into a matchup lefty really minimizes his value and hurts both him and the Cubs in the long run.
  6. Why is it that when Soriano has 2 consecutive bad games in the #3 spot, he is immediately moved back to leadoff, yet when he has 2 weeks of bad games in the leadoff spot it is never considered to move him elsewhere?
  7. Yes, it is still 429 as always, but the game is on WCIU tonight.
  8. In Hendry's defense, he was limited to a $130 Million payroll. How is anyone supposed to win with that?
  9. It's easy to say that, but I can't blame Lily at all. The Cubs have an offense that hasn't shown themselves to be capable of putting up anything more than 1 run, which makes it all the more critical to try to get the runner at home.
  10. Scoring 2 runs in 3 games wasn't a wake-up call? I don't see any added benefit to getting no-hit.
  11. Don't look now but even Soriano is down to .262. If the All-Star game was tomorrow, I think we would see Fukudome making his 2nd consecutive appearance. Nobody else even comes close to deserving it.
  12. Yea makes no sense our best Ph doesnt see the field in a close game like that, yet Freel and Miles do. Lous in game managing leaves so much to be desired. Just to make it even dumber, please give the #1 reason Hoffpauir made the squad in the first place. I was mowing the lawn and only caught portions of the 8th and 9th inning on the radio, but I knew that the pitcher's spot was coming up in the 9th and assumed there was no question that it would be Hoffpauir. The next I heard, Soriano had hit a home run and there was 1 out, so I was certain that Hoffpauir had made an out. After reading this thread, I went back and checked the box score to find that Miles was used instead. That is completely inexcusable to leave the team's best pinch hitter on the bench, especially when Miles was the alternative. Lou treats Hoffpauir as if he is a .220 hitter with power who is only valuable in situations where a home run is required.
  13. Time to hurry the game up... looks like a small batch of rain coming soon, followed by a short window, then a huge band coming through that may finish it off.
  14. A 30 minute first inning doesn't bode well for finishing this game tonight.
  15. Say the game doesn't go 5. Can MLB decide to continue it tomorrow, or would it have to start over? Anything under 5 innings would have to start over.
  16. It looks like the heavy rain is a little over an hour away.
  17. While waiting for the Cubs game to start... am I the only one who thinks Sarah Kustok talks like she has a mouth full of marbles?
  18. I doubt they would force San Diego to play a day/night doubleheader on less than 24 hours notice. Maybe we'll get to see a good old-fashioned back-to-back doubleheader.
