I am happy to be wrong (although I do think Quade was playing with fire). Nice outing Dempster. Hopefully this gives him some confidence and gets him back on track. -

I'll be there too. Only my second time at Dodger Stadium. Hopefully Dempster doesn't get blown up. I'm jealous. Dodger Stadium is on my list of future destinations, but probably not until 2013 since a honeymoon probably has to take priority over my Cubs trip next year. :-)

That lineup makes perfect sense... ensure that Soriano's home runs are all solo by putting him behind Byrd and Pena.

That is really pretty hard to do with the consistency that Russell has been doing it. You would have to think that even the worst major league pitchers would occasionally sprinkle in a 2 or 3 run outing.

both threw off the mound, and looks like one or both could be ready soon ( i dont remember exactly when, but a week to 10 days is sticking in my head?)I don't know what Len said, but I thought I heard/read somewhere recently that Wells is slightly ahead of Cashner in the rehab progress. that may have been part of it too, but i'm too lazy to try to go back on my dvr to find it, sounded like cashner was coming along as hoped thoughOk, good enough! Thanks guys.

What did Len say about Cashner and Wells? Just as he started talking about them, my DVR switched me to another channel because I had too many programs scheduled to record.

I agree. I didn't think the Bulls played terrible, but throughout the game Atlanta was making a lot of seemingly tough shots. I haven't watched them play much this year, so I don't know whether that is typical for them. -
screw statements like this we all saw it coming, but it doesn't make it any less infuriating. Pretty much. Anyone expecting that is an [expletive]. Just because I expected that to happen doesn't mean that I wanted it to, but I've been watching this team long enough to have much confidence in any other result. Lame. If you're expecting the worst, why even bother? Because luckily what I expect has no impact on what really happens. Expect the worst, hope for the best I guess... That isn't always the case for me, but I just don't have much confidence in this year's team at this point. I want the Cubs to be one of those teams that whatever happens, you just expect them to somehow to win the game, but they haven't done anything to inspire that confidence.

There was no way they were going to give Soto anything to hit in that situation. The bat was taken out of the hands of one of the team's best hitters because of his position in the lineup.

Wow. I am just now checking in, and we're really only on page 1 of the game thread? Anyway, that was an interesting ejection. It looks like Quade had made up his mind that he wanted to be ejected, even though the call was correct to begin with.

Whenever he gets moved into the middle of the order, he stops hitting homers and starts sucking. At least that's my perception. I wonder if the stats back it up. I'd bet he has a much higher home run rate with no men on base, as opposed to when there are men on base. Of course, no one here believes in "clutch" so if it's true, its probably pure coincidence. The last 3 years: 2008 Nobody on: 284 AB's, 18 HR, .885 OPS Runners on: 169 AB's, 11 HR, .860 OPS 2009 Nobody on: 311 AB's, 10 HR, .685 OPS Runners on: 166 AB's, 10 HR, .802 OPS 2010 Nobody on: 269 AB's, 10 HR, .720 OPS Runners on: 227 AB's, 14 HR, .934 OPS And so far this year (excluding tonight): 2011 Nobody on: 38 AB's, 5 HR, 1.087 OPS Runners on: 47 AB's, 2 HR, .524 OPS So perception is not reality in this case. As for the middle of the order, he only had 76 AB's total for the 3-5 spot from 2008-2010 so very little to go off of. I would say that perception is skewed by the fact that he strikes out a lot, which makes it seem like he is performing poorly with runners on base because his strikeouts are magnified.

Soriano may not hit for average this year. But he has his batting stance back to the way it was when he was mashing the ball with the nationals its good to see. If he hits .230 with 35 homers, I'll take it.

I have been extremely critical of Soriano in the past, but right now he is the only legitimate power threat in this lineup. Why must he continue to hit 7th???
