  1. Hey, we're making progress! Someone finally realized that Soriano has value and the Cubs don't need to pay his entire salary while getting nothing in return. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/rosenthal-on-orioles-liriano-soriano-diamondbacks.html
  2. I'm hoping maybe it's just something trivial holding the deal up like Dempster not having had a chance to discuss the move with his family yet.
  3. Isn't it in his best interest to accept a trade anyway so that he can sign a contract in the offseason without costing the team a compensation pick? That would seem to increase his market value.
  4. it has no effect on his trade value. I don't buy that. Yes, we are mostly overreacting, but there may be teams sitting on the fence who could be swayed by 1 good or bad outing. not even ned colletti is THAT stupid. It is 1 start out of 15. You can't just completely throw it out and say it will have no bearing on his trade value, especially coming off an injury. In the grand scheme of things, the impact will probably be minimal... but I don't agree with anyone who says it has no effect whatsoever.

  6. Well this must really be driving up his trade value... One batter retired on what should have been ball 4, then 4 straight singles.
  7. I am mildly annoyed by all the reports of teams being interested in Dempster but unwilling to give up top prospects for a "rental player". Yes he may be a rental, but he is a virtually cost-free (assuming the Cubs are picking up the salary) starting pitcher who can plug right in as a #2 starter in almost any rotation. That is a difference-making piece for a playoff team, so they better be willing to give up something more than mid-tier guys.
  8. Anyone know anything about this guy? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/cubs-sign-juan-carlos-paniagua.html
  9. http://mlb.sbnation.com/2012/7/18/3166679/mlb-draft-lottery-competitive-balance/in/2930718 This has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard and that is an impressive feat considering that it had to beat out the All-Star game determining home field advantage.
  10. Dunn not on deck. What the hell?
  11. That's because Furcal knows how to field a knuckleball.
  12. Kinsler pulled up on purpose there.
  13. Great commercial. Kerry sure is looking skinny though.
  14. Dempster goes into the break with a 1.99 ERA.
  15. Same location 3 times in a row. Why would the 3 one suddenly be a strike?
  16. I wish Rizzo would hit a ball hard one of these days.
  17. Has he done anything to indicate otherwise? I imagine he will be a serious non-tender candidate in the offseason.
  18. He is in the dugout managing tonight. Oops. I caught some dugout shots of McKay and Bosio and incorrectly assumed that Sveum wasn't there.
  19. I really hope the Cubs can find a taker for Garza, because I sure as hell don't want to give him top of the rotation money.
