    Yeah, he is. I still don't know if he provides enough offense to be an everyday player in a good lineup, but if the Cubs can find enough offense at other positions I'm perfectly fine with Barney holding down 2B.

    What else was the runner supposed to do? Be tagged out. I really haven't formed an opinion either way on collisions, I've really never thought about the topic. But if you aren't going to allow players to run over catchers at home plate, then catchers shouldn't be allowed to blatatnly block homeplace to the point where the runner doesn't have a choice but to run over the catcher to get to the plate. Exactly. I just don't know how that rule could be enforced. MLB could try to legislate head shots, but even that is difficult because the catcher's positioning may put his head right at shoulder-level.

    Molina just got obliterated at home plate in the Cardinals/Pirates game but held onto the ball for the 3rd out of the inning. I can't stand the guy, but sure would love to have him on my team.

    Backloading is good. That is a little bit of an oversimplification. Backloading is not inherently good or bad. My personal preference would be to minimize backloaded contracts on a rebuilding team, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad thing. Either way, it really should not be much of a factor here.

    I'm splitting hairs here, but I would have preferred to see the contract start out at around $6-7M in year 1 to keep it down around $8-9M years 6 and 7. Like I said though, really splitting hairs. This is a great deal for the Cubs.
