    Maybe the Cubs can sign both Grace and Josh Hamilton and get a 2-for-1 deal on their chaperone? In all seriousness, even if you put Grace's legal trouble aside, I can't imagine that dropping him in the middle of Wrigleyville would be healthy for him.

    If Wood is truly interested in broadcasting and he wants to stay with the Cubs organization, this opportunity doesn't come around very often. Sure the radio job might open up next year, but I imagine that doesn't pay nearly as well as the TV side. In other words, if this is what he wants to do he should jump at the chance now instead of waiting around for a few years. I understand that he wants to spend time with his family, but he would still have 83 games in Chicago every year plus an entire offseason where he doesn't have to worry about getting in shape to pitch. Whether he would be a good analyst, I really don't know, but I would certainly be willing to give him a shot.

    A lot of fans I know are already calling for him, but I can't see it. He's a train wreck at this point. Personally I would enjoy Mark Grace in the booth, but that would be a potential PR nightmare.

    Why are people ignoring the simple economics of reducing ticket prices? Theoretically a reduce in ticket prices should lead to an increase in attendance (of course we know there are a lot of other factors involved). Just because the Cubs are reducing ticket prices does not mean they will lose that same amount of revenue. If they were already selling out every game and decided to reduce ticket prices, that would be another story, but that is not the case when there is inventory available. I don't see how this reduction in prices is a bad sign. We know the Cubs are not going to compete in 2013 and we can also be pretty confident that once they start winning, ticket prices will go right back up.

    Apparently baseball is the new hockey. We are headed toward a World Series that could match 2 teams who tied for the ELEVENTH best regular season record. Let's get more playoff teams in Bud.

    A Cardinals fan friend of mine posted a trolling Facebook status asking whether Reds, Cubs or Nationals fans were most disappointed this morning. I don't know the guy who replied, but his reply was perfect: "Baseball fans." They just don't get that were all tired of the same crap over and over. And why did it have to be the two bums that got the big hits?Does anyone remember the year that Sandberg and Dunston got hurt and the Cubs had a middle infield of Paul Noce and Mike Brumley? I can't help but think if that had been the Cardinals, Noce and Brumley would have led the team to the playoffs.

    You forgot the part in between where they were granted an extra draft pick because they need it for competitive balance. They did? I thought they were one of the two "small market" teams that didn't. I thought they had got a pick in Round B, but I was wrong. That really doesn't change the point though that it is ridiculous for a team like the Cardinals to even be in the lottery for extra picks. If they can afford a $110 Million payroll, they certainly don't need any handouts.

    I think Moreland signed a 3-year deal, so he is still under contract for 2013. I hope the Cubs will explore their options for that role after the 2013 season.

    If you put the DH in the field you lose the DH. That must be what I was thinking of.

    Why did I have it in my head that if you pinch hit for the DH, you lose the DH? Was that ever a rule in any level of baseball?

    Ok, thanks guys. I went with a 2 year print subscription (once I was already in for 1 year, the price of the 2nd was impossible to resist) so I'll see how it goes! I know I'm one of the dying breed who still reads print magazines, but spread over 2 years the cost of the print subscription was about the same as subscribing to the website content by itself.

    Is it worth the subscription fee, either for print + website or website-only? I have been considering a subscription, but it is a little on the pricey side.

    No one will argue that the 2012 Cubs were terrible, but it is short-sighted to judge one season of a new administration without looking at the bigger picture. Epstein and Hoyer assembled the 2012 roster, but they did so based on a system left to them in disarray. To make a statement implying that Epstein and/or Hoyer are primarily responsible for this season is ignoring the larger picture. Okay, so when I post "I am judging Epstein and Hoyer's regime on the 2012 W-L record," your responses will make sense. Would you like me to edit my post to reflect what you thought you were replying to? I could be a nice guy like that. That is not what you said, but you blamed Hoyer for assembling the 2012 roster. That is partially true, but it is also true that the roster was assembled based on what was left to him, so it is unfair to look at the 2012 season in a vacuum and assign the blame to Hoyer/Epstein for "the worst Cubs team in most of our lifetimes".
