  1. And Tampa gets out of a first and third jam with no outs. Nice!
  2. Regardless of the outcome of the games, this night has reinforced the awesomeness of MLB Network.
  3. If anyone is watching MLB Network... What the hell were the Cardinals chanting?
  4. I can't believe the Braves choked that away... and now we have to put up with the Cardinals in the playoffs. Damn you Atlanta! Damn youuuuuu!!!
  5. With Ramirez stating publicly that he will opt for free agency, does that mean the Cubs will pick up his option, forcing him to decline it and saving the buyout money? I'm really interested to see how this will play out without a GM in place.
  6. I still prefer the idea of a 3 game series, but I guess the 1 game playoff works much better logistically without disrupting the entire playoff schedule. I don't hate the idea, which is more than I can say for a lot of the things that Selig comes up with.
  7. Hopefully you aren't a Nielsen family!
  8. Unless I'm missing something, I don't believe Ramirez even has the right to decline. That is what makes it a "team" option. I think his comments are just assuming that the team won't pick his option up and, since there is no GM in place, he knows that it is unlikely that any negotiations will take place prior to the free agency filing date.
  9. It's baaaaaaaack. ESPN is showing the strike zone graphic on the screen for every pitch during the Yankees/Rays game. It is annoying, distracting, and was enough for me to turn the channel.
  10. That is one bad logo.
  11. Just when you thought it was safe, Jeff George is throwing his hat back into the ring for the Colts QB job... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/breaking/cbsports-exqb-george-i-could-help-colts-20110919,0,48209.story
  12. I must say I have been impressed with LaHair's approach at the plate and don't think it is impossible that he could be a productive Major League player. If the Cubs bring Ramirez back and then sign a big bat to play 1B or RF, I wouldn't be opposed to giving LaHair a chance to fill the remaining position. Even if he doesn't start, it would be nice to have some left-handed pop off the bench instead of a roster full of middle infielders.
  13. This is the first I heard of it. The good news is it sounds like he'll be ready to go in the spring and will be content with signing another discounted deal to pitch for the Cubs. They could certainly do a lot worse than Wood as a setup man for somewhere between 1 and 2 million. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-knee-injury-brings-early-end-to-kerry-woods-season-20110919,0,3910478.story
  14. It was certainly an entertaining segment, although most of it took place in Kap's fantasy land.
  15. Why are they opening so late? Is it another WBC year?
  16. They sell polish sausage?
  17. That would be awesome. I would gladly pay the extra dollar or two for a "premium" beer like at First Midwest Amphitheater.
  18. Say it ain't so... http://www.obstructedview.net/unobstructed-views/cubs/old-style-to-exit-wrigley-field-following-2011-season.html But are the rumors true? http://www.myfoxchicago.com/dpp/sports/mlb/cubs/old-style-coors-light-wrigley-field-official-beer-pabst-dean-metropoulos-20110804 What I don't understand is why Pabst would want to pull out of this deal, but I guess I don't know what all is involved in their partnership. They are selling mass quantities of a cheap beer that very few people would drink otherwise. How can that not be profitable?
  19. I have never seen a player turn his back to a pitch like that and, after watching the video again, I'm not sure Castro even realized that he missed a pitch. Valentine definitely had a legitimate point to begin with and then Castro kept unknowingly fueling the fire. I don't really care if someone is taking his glove off or eating sunflower seeds, but those things just contributed to a demeanor that appeared to be similar to a little league outfielder picking dandelions. I also got the impression that this rant was as much a criticism of Quade as it was of Castro.
  20. I didn't think it was very funny. Not only was that bad baseball, but it was also dangerous.
  21. This is awesome. For the first time in the last couple years, I can freely root for the Cubs without hesitation, knowing that the Cubs have finally made a commitment to change. Really nice to see Colvin come through there.
  22. I agree with your point, but he did have the day off yesterday, so there was no reason not to pitch him today. Now using him in 5 out of the 6 prior days, that is a different story.
  23. Say what you want about Reed Johnson, he has had a great season in limited playing time. He must have at least some value as a 4th outfielder for a contending team.
