  1. 10 more days is for the extra year of team control, but he would still be eligible for super 2 status, right? I thought the cutoff date for that was estimated around late July. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  2. So at this point the Cubs can't really worry about super 2 can they? It just doesnt seem worth keeping Rizzo in Iowa for an extra month or more when he has nothing left to learn there. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  3. Why would LaHair go on the DL? I think it would make more sense to deal Reed Johnson for whatever the Cubs can get, which I'm sure isn't much. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  4. Rizzo needs to stop playing on Easy mode. Increase the difficulty! Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  5. I was stuck on a plane just waiting to land so I could check for Soler news and this is exactly what I hoped to hear when I landed. Way to get it done Theo. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  6. It is kind of hard to believe that Vitters is still only 22. It doesn't appear at this point that he will be an all-star caliber hitter, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that he can still develop into a solid major league player.
  7. I'll take "unfortunately the number might be huge" over "unfortunately it might be the Yankees".
  8. "The Yankees offered a billion dollars over 3 years" That kind of bidding doesn't work when actually calling the Yankees up and asking would be collusion. It doesn't necessarily have to be collusion if there is simply a mutual understanding that the Cubs will beat any offer. They could just say, "Soler wants to be a Cub and the Yankees offered $40 Million, so give us $44 million and he is yours." If it really is true that Epstein wants Soler at all costs, then anything less than offering the Cubs a chance to beat any offer would be leaving money on the table.
  9. I am really nervous about this announcement. I hope Theo has the type of negotiating relationship where he just said "whatever the top bid is, we'll beat it by x amount." Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  10. This is great news and I am rooting for Prior. If/when he makes his debut in Boston, I will definitely be watching.
  11. Vitters has a grand total of 202 at bats in AAA and he has been alright, but he certainly hasn't been setting the world on fire. Combine that with the fact that he is still only 22 years old and I would like to see him get more development time in Iowa with a possible September callup.
  12. He can't get enough of being up at the podium though. He loves the attention.
  13. Yeah. Who exactly does this system benefit? The teams with a lot of money can't spend it, the teams without a lot of money can't invest in their minor league system, and the players don't get paid. It's a lose, lose, lose.
  14. We can only wonder what the Cubs would have done under last year's draft rules. Would they have taken Appel if they had an unlimited draft budget?
  15. The MLB Network analysts have been wrong about almost every pick so far.
  16. The clock doesn't start until the interview has been completed? That is odd.
  17. That may be true, but it is not due to lack of effort. I respect the guy for going out there every day and playing through pain, but the injuries are definitely taking a toll on him.
  18. Scoring from first base on a single... nice.
  19. JJax is awful. 6 ER on 7 hits (2 home runs) through 2 IP.
  20. I know I'm in the vast minority, but I have to agree with Kyle on this. I wouldn't say that football has been "ruined", but instant replay has definitely changed how I view the game. Instead of being excited after a spectacular touchdown catch, now my first thought is whether or not it will be overturned. I don't want the same thing to happen in baseball, where a diving catch can't be celebrated because we have to wait for an answer to come down from the replay booth.
  21. If there was ever any reason to fire a hitting coach, wouldn't this be it? I'm not saying that the Cubs should fire Jaramillo, but this just shows how ridiculous it was to overpay him as much as the Cubs did. If he isn't going to be held responsible for this inept offensive team, then clearly there is no reason to pay him as much as he is making.
  22. Possibly more impressive than the losing streak itself, when is the last time a team has been swept consecutively by the Astros and Pirates?
