  1. That is a really good question. 50 games of a $6.5 million salary comes out to just over $2 million. Do we know exactly how much cash the Cubs sent to Boston?
  2. Judging by Laurence Holmes' comments on The Score, I take it that not everyone liked and respected Marlon Byrd. He stopped short of calling Byrd a "d bag", but did sarcastically state that "it couldn't happen to a nicer guy".
  3. The banner on Cubs postgame says, "Report: Rizzo to be called up on Tuesday". I'm not sure whether that is accurate or where they got their info, but that is what they are going with.
  4. Even if this is purely precautionary,.the problem is that his recent great starts are devalued because he will have to come back and prove that he is healthy. Then if he has a couple poor starts, his value is shot. This is horrible timing. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  5. @#&$?!#@$!! There go our prospects. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  6. I'm pretty sure Castro was called up after the cut off for him, Rizzo is later in the season because of his service time from last year. (I could be completely wrong) edit - and while I was typing that I was proven wrong. I could be wrong too, but wasnt Castro just called up before the super 2 cutoff, meaning the Cubs still have him under control for the same number of years, but he will get an extra arbitration year? 7. You think it's silly to wait an additional 10-11 days to get an extra full year of control? Yes. If Rizzo projects as expected, he'll be locked up long term regardless. We are the Cubs, not a small market team. That is the type of thinking that put the Cubs in this hole. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  8. 10 more days is for the extra year of team control, but he would still be eligible for super 2 status, right? I thought the cutoff date for that was estimated around late July. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  9. So at this point the Cubs can't really worry about super 2 can they? It just doesnt seem worth keeping Rizzo in Iowa for an extra month or more when he has nothing left to learn there. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  10. Why would LaHair go on the DL? I think it would make more sense to deal Reed Johnson for whatever the Cubs can get, which I'm sure isn't much. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  11. Rizzo needs to stop playing on Easy mode. Increase the difficulty! Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  12. I was stuck on a plane just waiting to land so I could check for Soler news and this is exactly what I hoped to hear when I landed. Way to get it done Theo. Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  13. It is kind of hard to believe that Vitters is still only 22. It doesn't appear at this point that he will be an all-star caliber hitter, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that he can still develop into a solid major league player.
  14. I'll take "unfortunately the number might be huge" over "unfortunately it might be the Yankees".
  15. "The Yankees offered a billion dollars over 3 years" That kind of bidding doesn't work when actually calling the Yankees up and asking would be collusion. It doesn't necessarily have to be collusion if there is simply a mutual understanding that the Cubs will beat any offer. They could just say, "Soler wants to be a Cub and the Yankees offered $40 Million, so give us $44 million and he is yours." If it really is true that Epstein wants Soler at all costs, then anything less than offering the Cubs a chance to beat any offer would be leaving money on the table.
  16. I am really nervous about this announcement. I hope Theo has the type of negotiating relationship where he just said "whatever the top bid is, we'll beat it by x amount." Sent from my LG-LS840 using Tapatalk 2
  17. This is great news and I am rooting for Prior. If/when he makes his debut in Boston, I will definitely be watching.
  18. Vitters has a grand total of 202 at bats in AAA and he has been alright, but he certainly hasn't been setting the world on fire. Combine that with the fact that he is still only 22 years old and I would like to see him get more development time in Iowa with a possible September callup.
  19. He can't get enough of being up at the podium though. He loves the attention.
  20. Yeah. Who exactly does this system benefit? The teams with a lot of money can't spend it, the teams without a lot of money can't invest in their minor league system, and the players don't get paid. It's a lose, lose, lose.
  21. We can only wonder what the Cubs would have done under last year's draft rules. Would they have taken Appel if they had an unlimited draft budget?
  22. The MLB Network analysts have been wrong about almost every pick so far.
