  1. I just read that too and apparently they are still willing to take on a large salary. Crazy...
  2. Molina just got obliterated at home plate in the Cardinals/Pirates game but held onto the ball for the 3rd out of the inning. I can't stand the guy, but sure would love to have him on my team.
  3. Backloading is good. That is a little bit of an oversimplification. Backloading is not inherently good or bad. My personal preference would be to minimize backloaded contracts on a rebuilding team, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad thing. Either way, it really should not be much of a factor here.
  4. I'm splitting hairs here, but I would have preferred to see the contract start out at around $6-7M in year 1 to keep it down around $8-9M years 6 and 7. Like I said though, really splitting hairs. This is a great deal for the Cubs.
  5. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/cubs-to-acquire-anthony-recker.html Who is Anthony Recker and what is the point of this trade?
  6. I can't imagine he would leave for another broadcast job, but a managerial job would be a different story.
  7. Old school rain delay theater. That's what I like to see!
  8. drose Rose is not a good example of draft strategy because the Bulls were only able to draft him as a result of an extremely lucky bounce of a ping pong ball. If you remember, the Bulls only had a 1.7% chance of getting the first pick. Without that lucky bounce, they likely would have been stuck as a borderline playoff/lottery team for many more years.
  9. This weekend series is going to be one for the ages. Plenty of good seats available!
  10. Vitters is under 1.000 in the all-important batting average + fielding percentage stat.
  11. Remember when people were suggesting the Cubs could be .500 in 2013 and ready to compete in 2014? I'm really starting to think those predictions overshot by at least 1-2 years...
  12. Let me guess, he swung at pitches that even Soriano would have laid off of?
  13. Vitters seems to make up his mind whether he is going to swing before the pitch has even been thrown.
  14. I am watching the Cardinals/Dbacks game on MLB.tv and Fox Sports Arizona was doing some sort of Twitter chat for memories of attending your first baseball game. This made me think back to the first game I can remember attending (although I can't remember for sure if this was truly my first). What does everyone remember about their first game? My first game was a Cubs/Dodgers doubleheader that my parents took me to on 7/14/1988. Without having looked the box score up on the Internet, I couldn't have told you whether the Cubs won or lost, but the thing I clearly remember most is that Dave Martinez was traded for Mitch Webster after the game. I remember listening to the radio in the car on the way home from the game and hearing the trade announced. I was a pretty disappointed 8 year old because Dave Martinez was one of my favorite players. I was slightly less disappointed when he was traded again in 2000.
  15. As bad as the Cubs are, there is zero chance of catching the Astros. They are in their own league of bad.
  16. And by "our", you mean the Chicago men's 30 and older league, correct?
  17. Rizzo's slide into home looked like it hurt.
