  1. Does that mean the 5th inning would be the silent inning?
  2. I know we aren't catching them, but it feels like we are gaining on the Astros. That is only because of their current 1 game winning streak.
  3. Please stop putting the camera on Strasburg. That is one nasty, giant wad of chew.
  4. If it is raining in Chicago like it is here, there is no way they are getting this game in.
  5. What else was the runner supposed to do? Be tagged out. I really haven't formed an opinion either way on collisions, I've really never thought about the topic. But if you aren't going to allow players to run over catchers at home plate, then catchers shouldn't be allowed to blatatnly block homeplace to the point where the runner doesn't have a choice but to run over the catcher to get to the plate. Exactly. I just don't know how that rule could be enforced. MLB could try to legislate head shots, but even that is difficult because the catcher's positioning may put his head right at shoulder-level.
  6. What else was the runner supposed to do?
  7. I just read that too and apparently they are still willing to take on a large salary. Crazy...
  8. Molina just got obliterated at home plate in the Cardinals/Pirates game but held onto the ball for the 3rd out of the inning. I can't stand the guy, but sure would love to have him on my team.
  9. Backloading is good. That is a little bit of an oversimplification. Backloading is not inherently good or bad. My personal preference would be to minimize backloaded contracts on a rebuilding team, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is a bad thing. Either way, it really should not be much of a factor here.
  10. I'm splitting hairs here, but I would have preferred to see the contract start out at around $6-7M in year 1 to keep it down around $8-9M years 6 and 7. Like I said though, really splitting hairs. This is a great deal for the Cubs.
  11. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/08/cubs-to-acquire-anthony-recker.html Who is Anthony Recker and what is the point of this trade?
  12. I can't imagine he would leave for another broadcast job, but a managerial job would be a different story.
  13. Old school rain delay theater. That's what I like to see!
  14. drose Rose is not a good example of draft strategy because the Bulls were only able to draft him as a result of an extremely lucky bounce of a ping pong ball. If you remember, the Bulls only had a 1.7% chance of getting the first pick. Without that lucky bounce, they likely would have been stuck as a borderline playoff/lottery team for many more years.
  15. This weekend series is going to be one for the ages. Plenty of good seats available!
  16. Vitters is under 1.000 in the all-important batting average + fielding percentage stat.
  17. Remember when people were suggesting the Cubs could be .500 in 2013 and ready to compete in 2014? I'm really starting to think those predictions overshot by at least 1-2 years...
  18. Let me guess, he swung at pitches that even Soriano would have laid off of?
