  1. If you put the DH in the field you lose the DH. That must be what I was thinking of.
  2. Why did I have it in my head that if you pinch hit for the DH, you lose the DH? Was that ever a rule in any level of baseball?
  3. Ok, thanks guys. I went with a 2 year print subscription (once I was already in for 1 year, the price of the 2nd was impossible to resist) so I'll see how it goes! I know I'm one of the dying breed who still reads print magazines, but spread over 2 years the cost of the print subscription was about the same as subscribing to the website content by itself.
  4. Is it worth the subscription fee, either for print + website or website-only? I have been considering a subscription, but it is a little on the pricey side.
  5. The Cardinals are going to go to the World Series again, aren't they? Damn you Bud Selig!
  6. No one will argue that the 2012 Cubs were terrible, but it is short-sighted to judge one season of a new administration without looking at the bigger picture. Epstein and Hoyer assembled the 2012 roster, but they did so based on a system left to them in disarray. To make a statement implying that Epstein and/or Hoyer are primarily responsible for this season is ignoring the larger picture. Okay, so when I post "I am judging Epstein and Hoyer's regime on the 2012 W-L record," your responses will make sense. Would you like me to edit my post to reflect what you thought you were replying to? I could be a nice guy like that. That is not what you said, but you blamed Hoyer for assembling the 2012 roster. That is partially true, but it is also true that the roster was assembled based on what was left to him, so it is unfair to look at the 2012 season in a vacuum and assign the blame to Hoyer/Epstein for "the worst Cubs team in most of our lifetimes".

Epstein and Hoyer assembled the 2012 roster, but they did so based on a system left to them in disarray. You really can't separate one from the other at this point. To make a statement implying that Epstein and/or Hoyer are primarily responsible for this season is ignoring the larger picture.
  8. Did I hear that right from Brandon Marshall? "Some days are a shot glass and other days are a wheelbarrow?" I'm thinking maybe I misheard part of it, but either way that is a pretty funny quote.
  9. You can't be serious. Surely the part about it being one of the worst Cubs teams can't be argued, but to blame Jed Hoyer for that is nonsense. Who am I supposed to blame? Virtually all of the bad players were put on the roster by him. I mean, I could have blamed Theo Epstein, but I feel bad that Jed never gets any recognition for being the GM. You are looking at one season at face value without any regard for the long term plan. If the goal was to put a team on the field that could possibly reach .500, then Epstein and Hoyer failed. If the goal was to start building a championship team, then it is way too early to make any judgements. I don't think anyone is happy with how this season turned out, but to assign blame to the new administration at this point is just silly.

  11. Mock all you want, but I won my fantasy league last year with Orton as my starter for most of the season. Game manager!
  12. Is it just me or did that Bears fan look like an old, shriveled-up Troy Aikman?
  13. Nice... Urlacher saying "wow" to the Bears fan response.
  14. I don't agree with that "sufficient distance" explanation. In an extreme example, what if the defender shoves a receiver to the ground and then the ball is tipped from a "sufficient distance"? The receiver is still lying on the ground with no chance to catch the ball.
  15. Does it really matter if he tipped it? The defender was grabbing him the whole time.
  16. I love you Marshall!
  17. I just checked the box score. 2-hit by the Astros? Really? At least the #2 pick is locked up.
  18. You can't see the ball from the rear angle, but it is clear that the defender didn't rip at it until after the elbow was on the ground.
  19. Only 3 outs remaining to avoid 100 losses...
