  1. and very little defensively, or at least little that the Cubs couldn't get from a lot of other defense only catchers around the league. Certainly not enough to warrant starting him more than 25 times a season.
  2. I didn't get to see the game. A couple questions. How did Leddy look? Why is Stalberg playing on the 4th line?
  3. Carpenter is due for another injury this year. The Reds will give back 20 wins from what they did a year ago. DeWitt has a breakout year and Pena feasts on NL pitching in his contract year. Quade is smart enough to actually play Soto and cut Hill. Cubs win the NL Central with 91 wins.
  4. Here's what Quade will do: Fukudome Castro Ramirez Pena Soto= giving him the benefit of the doubt here Soriano Dewitt Byrd Things you just aren't going to see from a first year manager that may never get another chance: Soto batting 2nd with Colvin in the lineup for Fukudome: Castro Dewitt Ramirez Pena Soto- again giving him the benefit of the doubt, otherwise switch with Soriano Colvin Soriano Byrd
  5. There's no telling what might've happened to Harvey had he gone to college. He very well could've been exposed there, instead of in the minors. That would have cost him millions. Maybe then he would have started pitching 4 years ago when it would have mattered.
  6. I really hope the tradition of Cardinals dying during the season continues. I hope they start a new tradition where they get lousy players like Theriot and bat them in front of Pujols. Theriot should lead off and Schumaker bat 2nd with Pujols 3rd.

  8. He's their best player.
  9. Once again I have to ask, do they fight with ham, against ham or use ham as a weapon?

  11. Casey Coleman could probably be just as good without costing anything
  12. If Hendry is even considering signing Kevin Millwood that should be grounds for firing him immediately.
  13. Is MacPhail still in charge? He seems to have a good working relationship with Hendry. They might like a package of 2-3 of the Cubs surplus reliever types. Would you give them Colvin for Scott? I know Hendry wouldn't unless he got something else thrown in.
  14. I see no risk in picking up Moss. If he makes things better the season will be worth watching. If he makes things worse it gets Smith and Angelo fired.
  15. If you're KC, do you want stud prospects or MLB ready talent? It seems like teams like KC keep trying to add prospects that never seem to amount to anything or at least doesn't translate into a better team. A package of Wells, Colvin, Coleman and one or two of the many RH relievers would probably do them a lot more good than B Jackson. It would also save them a bunch of money. None of those guys are studs but they'd all start for the Royals, wouldn't they?
  16. Campbell back means that Keith doesn't have to play 30+ minutes a game. It also means Boynton plays a lot less ( did they give him an assist on Columbus' first goal? it was a sweet pass) and Scott never plays at all except to start a fight.
  17. Correct. If we can't beat these teams then I don't see us beating the Dolphins, Eagles, Pats, Jets, etc. Also, consider the fact that the Cowboys and Packers aren't that good this year, and none of our wins look impressive anymore. I'm hoping that last week was due to Cutler being rusty and the Seahawks being fresh coming off a bye, but that's probably wishful thinking. It's a must win for the coaching staff. A loss this week means a 7-9 finish may be the best this team can do. I'd hope that wasn't enough to save Lovie Smith's job.
  18. It looks completely fake, like the kind of fake beard micheal scott would wear.
  19. Since he hasn't joined that pretty much disproves the "He's a real Cubs fan" theory.
  20. Why would a Cubs fan want Sosa's corked bat? Why would any Cub fan want to be reminded of any of that?
  21. Leddy will have to step up since Scott is pretty much worthless as a defender, though that's not why he's on the team.
  22. I missed big chunks of this game but based on what I saw: I thought Leddy looked better as the game went on. I think when he makes a mistake I'm going to just pretend that he's really Sopel. Is there some rule that says Seabrook and Keith each have to make at least one terrible turnover per game? Kopecky played better last night than he did any point during the last regular season. I think Turco will be fine. Niemi would have given up 6 last night with the way the defense played early.
  23. This feels like deja vu. Wasn't Brenly in the running for the Brewers job last year or the year before? I don't see why anyone would miss Brenly as an announcer, especially if it meant he'd be derailing a division rival with his archaic baseball notions.
  24. I don't get why people keep writing off 2011. All the Cubs need to do to compete next year are these things: 1. sign Adam Dunn 2. keep fukudome and Zambrano 3. get a typical year from Ramirez 4. find 1 more reliever either through FA, trade or the multitude of in house options. Items 1 and 3 take them to at least the top 1/3 offensively. The starting pitching is already pretty good. If they get a career year or unexpected production out of somebody they could be very good in a division that is still pretty weak. The young pitching on the Reds will pay for it next season after Dusty runs them into the ground. Houston and Milwaukee stink and don't look to be getting any better.
