  1. I would think that the opposite- them selling off some of their more expensive players- is more likely to be true.
  2. If it's necessary to split up Marlboro 72, Leddy/ Seabrook, Keith/ Hjalmerson makes a lot more sense to me.
  3. Didn't get to see the game last night. Was Carcillo still on the 2nd line? I'd feel much better if Duncan Keith would stop making 1 horrific turnover that leads to either a goal or a great chance per game. The real difference this year vs. last is the ability of the 3rd and 4th lines to contribute. The 3rd looks awesome. How did the 4th look?
  4. You're not someone I should expect much from in any future discussions, are' you? One of the board cool guys I guess... Dew, I will possibly get back to that later. Not sure what else there is for me to say considering you're comparing the guy to two completely different players from him and each other and you seem absolutely convinced that patience is the only skill that translates when you get older. Not much I can do to help that really, but I guess I can give it more shots. Maybe you should offer a better comparison then. Maybe Rickey Henderson though you'll probably find that Crawford isn't nearly as good. I don't see where Crawford would be such a good fit for the Cubs anyway. He doesn't get on base enough to bat near the top of the order and he doesn't hit for enough power to bat in the middle of the order. The defense is great but, with less power coming from 3rd base if Ramirez leaves, the Cubs will need more of a run producer from that position. Well, the Cubs would be wise to trade Castro then too. Since a 341 OBP is not good for a top of the order hitter and he doesn't have much power. Castro is young with the potential to get better and plays a position where offense is usually a bonus and makes almost nothing compared to Crawford. People that have jobs managing MLB teams seem to disagree and would almost certainly want Crawford to lead off. Crawford is better than Soriano. If money and years were the same he would be the obvious choice. They aren't and if you hate Soriano's contract now, why would you hate Crawford's any less 2 years from now?

  6. Smith might also be able to make Kruger look better too. Anyone is better than Scott of course but Smith seems like he has better instincts than Stalberg.
  7. Saw this on MSN.com re: Hester's injury Who is arguing that Hester is the Bears most important player?
  8. If the spend whatever it takes Yankees are balking at paying Sabathia 5/ 125 +, who else will be bidding?
  9. I missed the first period and Hossa's goal to start the 2nd. Carcillo actually made a couple nice passes to Hossa and overall didn't look bad on the 2nd line. Leddy didn't make any glaring mistakes which is really what I want most from him. Why didn't Bickell take the wide open shot? I hate when the Hawks try to get cute and make one pass too many. Overall, the play was a little ragged and a better team would have beat the Hawks in regulation. Last year's team would have either lost this game in regulation or OT.
  10. I didn't get to see game 3 because I was stuck chapperoning the homecoming dance at school. No TV anywhere in that building. Wound up listening to parts of the game on my car radio.
  11. It's hard to blame anyone for not believing in Colvin. Or to put it another way, if the the real Colvin is somewhere between what we saw the last 2 years it's hard to see him ever being a starter on a good team unless that team can carry meh production from a corner OF spot.
  12. They looked like the best team for the first half of last season too. It will be interesting to see what happens with presumably better goaltending this year.
  13. Of course the depth was a lot more interchangeable 2 years ago. I wouldn't mind the line changes if he would give them more than a few shifts to figure things out. It would also help when they get Stalberg back so that they can add his name to the lineup generator instead of Scott.
  14. They will be hiring a new GM, so that could change. If Texas wins the WS, he'd have to consider taking the money that the O's would be able to offer.
  15. I think that an awful ST would be the only thing that would prevent him. Otherwise, we have a starting OF looking something like Soriano/Byrd/Colvin unless someone else is signed or traded. Even if we did get someone like LoMo or Michael Taylor(just thought Id suggest him as a possible target), I'd prefer Jackson in CF and trade Byrd. By keeping him in the minors for 11 days they can push back his service time by 1 year- at least that's the way it used to work. I think they would still probably like to see if Colvin is anyone worth keeping for a couple weeks to start the season.
  16. Now that Carcillo is done being suspended, maybe they'll send Scott down. I really wish Frolik had taken that empty net himself just to get that first goal under his belt.
  17. You might just want to avoid hearing the opinions of like 99% of athletes. That goes without saying. The Glenn Beck thing is a bit much, though. That's an extra special level of dumb. Yes, it's called baseball player dumb.
  18. As far as I'm concerned, Pujols can tout Glenn Beck for President of the universe, if it means the Cubs win the WS. As for the gun laws, can't he just drive up to Wisconsin and shoot all the guns he wants?
  19. This is an important nine-game tryout for the kid (and the team). Not really, barring a string of injuries, he'd have to go completely nuts to not be sent to juniors after the 9 day try out.
  20. What's the over/ under on the number of pages this reaches before he signs elsewhere?
  21. If Wilson means what he says about Gun laws and weather being a priority, He might consider a wild card team like the Angels.
  22. Didn't Terry Francona have a brief stint with the Cubs? edit: It was '86
  23. I think Lepisto and O'Donnell will be pretty interchangeable on that last D pairing. A lot depends on how well/ how long the Kane playing C experiment continues. Carbomb is suepnded the first 2 games so we'll see what happens with the 4th line. The only thing that's settled is the 3rd line of Bolland, Frolik and Bickell. That should last at least a week before the Coach Q lineup lottery takes affect.
  24. If Epstein wanted out of Boston, it's much better he goes to the Cubs as opposed to another AL team.
