  1. I'll admit I'm excited to see what Pirri can do in his audition as 4th line Center, especially since they have no other choice. Either he plays well enough to stick or he forces the team to get another center.
  2. 20 years is a long time to hold a grudge, especially regarding a woman that he has since divorced and then got married to someone else. I'm not saying that he and Martinez etal will be going on fishing trips but I can't see them getting into any serious conflict over this. If Martinez had been the only one, I could see your point. Considering there were so many others involved it seems like he might blame his ex wife more. That's the real betrayal. Cheating on him with teammates was worse than with strangers but most of the blame still falls on his wife.
  3. It's funny how things change. 10 years ago, people would have sympathy for the Red Sox after their collapse. Now I'd say most people are pretty happy to see their misery. If they were to fire Francona over this, that would really show how much things have changed.
  4. What happened between Sandberg's ex wife and all of his ex teammates, happened over 20 years ago. At this point, wouldn't he have more animosity toward his ex wife than his ex teammates?
  5. Looks like you may get a chance- 9 games worth- to see what Saad can do right from the get go. At least the injuries to Smith and Stalberg come from the area where the team has the most depth. So there's that. Maybe this reprieve for Krueger will give him a chance to get his act together. It sounds like the Kane to center experiment went ok. It sounds like Kane was out to proove something, which is a good thing. What does the depth chart look like until Sharp returns? Toews, Brunette, Rust eze Kane, Hossa ? Bolland, Bickell, Frolik Krueger, Mayers, Carcillo
  6. Probably because Alou never went into the stands to catch a ball ever in his Cubs career. In 30 years of watching Cubs games, I can't remember ever seeing anyone catch a ball in that part of the park.
  7. It's tough to pick the Cards, on many different levels. Actually, there's no logical reason to pick the Cards. Which is why I believe they will shock (and annoy) everyone by making a run. It would be just like them to win it all in a year where they really had no business even making the playoffs. On the positive side, if they did win that would be the last nail in the coffin of any chance that Pujols would stay.
  8. What kind of a society do we live in where people would just sit there and video this without doing anything to stop it?!
  9. what if they hired Sandberg as GM and he hired Grace as Manager? Wouldn't that be great PR? It worked so well when they brought back Jim Frey and Don Zimmer.
  10. Couldn't the 13 rookies just refuse and beat the crap out of whichever vets cared?
  11. I think meal money is around $110/day. That's a lot of taco bell. 60K/month is huge for anybody. Why couldn't I have been born with marginal big league baseball talent? That can't be right though, as I believe league min is 400someK. And who the [expletive] needs $110/day for meal money? On the road you're eating out all 3 meals. $110 sounds about right considering that these guys aren't going to be eating at Denny's.
  12. yea, hiding the lineup card will completely blank the players mind and he will have NO IDEA where he is batting. No way he can count. or follow game situations. no sir, the line up card holds magical powers over batters. Do they have the actual ability to follow the game situation? Sure. Would they? I bet not. They have no reason to notice or care. wut Baseball players are widely considered the dumbest of all pro athletes. The responsibilities of batting 5,6 or 7 are all identical. I could see being upset batting 8th or becoming more pull conscious batting 4th but the difference between 5th and 7th is all about ego.Everyone in the Cubs lineup should feel slighted that Barney bats 2nd since he doesn't get on base or have any power.
  13. We'll also try John Scott on the power play.
  14. That seems plausible. It seems like the franchise is just about ready to give up on Guthrie.
  15. I remember Steve Stone had to tell the play by play guy at the time (Chip?) that Brown had dropped the ball. That dropped ball led to really the only good moment of that post season- the one game playoff against the Giants.
  16. Can Pirri supplant Krueger on the roster? If he did, would they maybe him on the 3rd line and move Bolland between Sharp and Hossa on the 2nd line?
  17. Have the Bears ever won a game where they wore the orange jerseys? It seems like they save them for games that they expect to lose. The worst part of the Packers winning the super bowl last year for me is that around here all of the "die hard" Patriot fans have switched to "lifelong" Packer fans. ugh.
  18. anyone able to see the game last night? It sounds like Rusteez looked pretty good alongside The real Toews.
  19. Wouldn't the Angels be one of the teams in the Pujols/ Fielder sweepstakes? That could be their motivation to move Morales.
  20. Which would be a worse PR move for the Indians: releasing Sizemore or trading him for Zambrano? Wasn't Sizemore the face of the franchise not too long ago?
  21. Out of cuiosity, do you believe it is too late for him to learn a new position or that he lacks the athleticism to be any better than "horrendous"? I doubt he'd be as bad as Jake Fox out there. What type of numbers do you think Castillo and Clevenger could put up over those 130 games- though I think it would be more like 120? Soto this year hasn't been particularly productive with and OPS around .600. Can we expect him to catch 140 games next year and still return to his .900-1.000 ops he had in his good seasons? Clearly, the best option is to bring back Ramirez for 2 more years.
  22. I'm going to throw this out there. If they can't afford to bring back Ramirez, why not move Soto to 3rd part time. He has a career ops of .800 which would put him at the very least average among 3rd basemen. There's a better than average chance he could improve his offensive numbers without the physical demands trying to catch 130 or so games a year. A platoon with Baker starting at 3rd against LHP and Soto catching those days would keep his bat in the lineup every day. I'm fairly certain the Cubs had Soto play some 3rd early on in his minor league career. He would certainly have the arm for 3rd and it's not like he'd be replacing Brooks Robinson defensively. I realize a big part of Soto's value is getting his production from the catching position but perhaps the reason for his good-bad-good-bad production has something to do with playing the most punishing position in the entire sport.
  23. I'm just going to say that teams with balls never consider the idea that they overpaid. This Shark to the rotation idea is growing on me. More like teams with money. Teams like the Twins can't afford to lose the value from the cheap years of a prospect since they don't have the means to buy a replacement in FA.
