  1. I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder. That's the only reason I can think of that anyone could love traffic cone Sopel. Oh, unless the alternative is Scott.
  2. Hey, he's not dead yet. you realize that you're just asking for a monty python inspired derailment
  3. call him czonk. In fact call everyone you know named keith, czonk. That's what I do.
  4. Will anyone be able to see this? Will it be available in parents' basements for the target audience?
  5. What's harder on a pitcher's arm, pitching 3 days in a row for one inning each day or pitching 5 innings every five days?
  6. Harper was a scratch from the SAL HR Derby. Good thing I decided to skip that event which was held 30 minutes from my house. Luckily, Delmarva plays Hagerstown about 300 times a year so I'll still have a chance to see him.
  7. Not necessarily. they could always promote him to Iowa a week after the ASG if they wanted to. Besides, if he went to Iowa he might take playing time away from the legendary Augie Ojeda or Bobby Scales.
  8. If you're Kerry Wood I think you write your own ticket here. He signed at bargain basement because he wanted to move back to Chicago. Does that override his desire to get a ring? One thing about Hendry, his track record shows that he values what the players think of him more than anything else. So he wouldn't trade Wood without asking him first.
  9. Big starting rotation acquisition (Garza) on the DL Hottest hitter (Baker) on the DL #4 starter (Wells) spent a bunch of time on the DL #5 starter (Cashner) on DL opening Day CF (Byrd) on the DL starting catcher (Soto) just returned from the DL Soriano (actually not too bad so far) on the DL I don't think it's such a stretch to say that injuries have played a big part in the Cubs record so far. Would they be any good with everyone healthy? Probably not but who's to say for sure. Cashner and Wells would have had to have been better than Russell and Coleman. Having 2 awful starters exposes the middle relief which is bad news for any team.
  10. I'd go Pisani. It reminds me a lot of the backup catcher discussion. I think Smith is the better player, now and especially long term, but he's not going to reach that potential player 6 minutes a game. If there's no room for him in the top 3 lines, send him down and make him force the team to bring him back up. He'll be ready to push someone out of a top 9 spot soon enough, and we'll definitely enjoy his small cap hit when he gets there. I think it will be interesting to see how they handle Smith, Kruger, and Morin next year. Especially Morin....he was the most highly regarded prospect, but got a concussion (I believe) that put him out for a while. I'm guessing it will come down to training camp. They're the cheapest options, obviously, but you don't want to stunt their development when they can all be on the first line in AHL next year. . One thing you can count on with Quenville is he likes to juggle the lines. If his play warranted more minutes Smith would get them. What is Smith's potential? He brings energy which is what you want from the 4th line. Pisani isn't worth the extra money
  11. Fielder will get more money/ years from an AL team that can DH him as well as play him at 1st. I could see a team like the Orioles driving a truckload of money up to his door and he'd be foolish not to at least kick the tires. I'm hoping that the Yankees sign Pujols and are willing to trade Texiera for salary relief. That gets Pujols out of the NL Central and really has to hurt the Cards a lot. If the Cubs could be the team that gets Texiera it would still be a net improvement.
  12. Has anyone been reading the player profiles on SCH? Interesting discussion on Ben Smith. Given a choice of Pisani and Smith, who would you rather see on the fourth line?
  13. an expiring contract? this isn't the nba. Wouldn't that potentially have some appeal to a team in serious financial trouble? Thank you. The mets are so bad off right now that they need to start shipping guys out quickly. I'm pretty sure they are 600 million in the hole and no one is going to their games. But yeah the mets would take some back lash for trading wright so they would at least need to feign competitiveness by picking up a deteriorating veteran who they arent on the hook for past this year. all the while picking up pitchers which is the biggest reason why they have sucked for the last 8 years. If the Mets traded Wright for pitching, they'd still need to get somebody that could play 3rd the rest of the season. If the Cubs were to add money to the deal there would be little reason for the Mets not to take Ramirez back. Of course trading for Wright probably precludes the fantasy-land, never going to happen despite a 30 page NSBB thread, FA signing of Pujols or the fat guy from the Brewers.
  14. If the Sharks win, will they play all their games at 10 pm eastern or will they make them play in the late afternoon to accommodate TV? In any case, go Bruins
  15. I understand liking Rinne but the Preds are the most boring team in the Western conference. Or is this a case of "whoever is playing the Canucks?"
  16. I think if you could get salary cap relief to resign Sharp. Plus a solid top 6 forward and a 3/4 line checking center, then trading Kane might make sense. Of course there may be room in the new cap to resign Sharp(if he gives a Blackhawk discount) and add a checking center and just keep Kane I don't see how that makes the team any better. A 3rd line Center and a second line forward are not likely to match the production of Kane. The only way trading Kane makes any sense is if you think he's going to drink himself to death before he's 25.
  17. Unlike Theriot, he's also good at the big things like scoring goals.
  18. It's hard to imagine the package of players that it would take to make it worth trading Kane. You'd have to get 4 good players, who could give up that much and still have enough talent to compete- which would be the point of trading for Kane in the first place. The other option I guess would be to trade him for someone like Kesler who offered less offense but much better defense. Again, why would any team do that?
  19. If they trade Hammer that means they keep Campoli which is fine since he fits in well with what they want from the blue line offensively. I can't see them bringing back Turco. Not really sure what they'll do with kruger
  20. what does Sopel have to do with anything? He was painful to watch most of the season. He did show up for the playoffs it seemed like Hjalmerson had to bail him out a lot last season. What the Hawks missed was Keith being reluctant to block shots for the first 2 months of the season.
  21. with a name like Cam Greathouse, why isn't he playing hockey?
  22. Good job with the reverse hex everybody. I think the Canucks would relish the chance to get revenge on the Hawks. The Hawks don't have Byfuglien who decided to actually show up (and then some) for that series. Though if they could get an Atlanta Thrashawk back for this series I'd still rather have Ladd.
  23. The lesson here is that those early season games against the Oilers were the difference between moving on and going home. How many of these guys just played their last game for the Blackhawks?
  24. For a guy his age, though, the past 1-2 years are probably more indicative of what he is now than how he did 3-4 years ago. Don't take this as me arguing he'll be bad, I honestly don't know what we're going to get out of Wood this year. Just hoping somebody else might have a good idea of what to expect and why. Mariano Rivera taught Wood how to throw the cut fastball that Rivera has used to be good at baseball. Wood started using the pitch and was basically lights out from that point on.
  25. While he was with the Yankees, Mariano Rivera taught him how to get people out.
