  1. That does seem to suggest she wasn't lip syncing, unless her sound engineer was very quick with the control and turned it off to save her. Which I suppose is possible, but probably not. Where's derwood when you need him? Have they come up with a way to auto cut off the vocals when the lip syncer moves the mic away from their face? seems like something that could be done fi someone felt it was worth inventing.
  2. I'm not so sure it's a regression as much as a lack of adjustment. Keith has always made so me risky plays that a youth player would know better than to make. These risky plays used to pay off with the offense moving quickly into attack. There have been times this year where Keith has looked really good. However, more often this year it seems like Keith is misreading where his teammates are and this leads to horrific turnovers.
  3. Anyone know the nature and severity of Brunette's "Upper body" injury? I'd like to see Hayes back up as he is a better fit for the 3rd line than most of the other options. I'd like to see Shaw on the 4th line for a while with Mayers and Morrison and Kruger back between Sharp and Hossa. It wouldn't be such a bad idea to put Hayes with Toews and Kane with the idea of using him the way they did Byfuglien 2 years ago- taking up space in front of the net and opening up the rest of the offensive zone. This would put Stalberg on Bolland's line with Frolik who at least plays defense even if he doesn't score ever. The biggest difference is not so much that the defensemen are bad -in general, not talking about last night's debacle- but that the forwards aren't as effective controlling the puck or backchecking.
  4. Even then they pretty much took the whole month of March off that year (that was the perception more so than the reality). There was also a lot of angst over the goalie situation and people here were saying that they had wasted the chance at a cup run when they didn't get a goalie. Kane was too soft, Buff didn't care, Versteeg wasn't scoring, Sopel was too slow.
  5. They're definitely slower. They don't carry the puck into the offensive zone like they used to, particularly on the PP. None of the guys they brought in have worked out the way they thought especially Lepisto who's taken up permanent residence in the press box. On the other hand, Stalberg and Leddy have gotten better.
  6. I don't see how this team's plight isn't worrisome. They had a young core that many people thought could be elite for years, and all but Toews have regressed. The team took a couple (expected) steps back after winning the cup, and after the GM made a massive overhaul, they have yet to taken a step forward. When they were racking up points earlier this season they weren't playing particularly well. They look to me, at least, to need an impact acquisition on defense to really have a good chance this year. Not making the playoffs would be unacceptable at this point, but their play has still been worrisome for a good year and a half. Lat year, it seemed like they had no sense of urgency through the first half of the season, then they had to go max effort just to make the playoffs. This year they can afford to coast a little and save their best effort for when it counts. This team seems to rise and fall to the level of the competition. With the exception of that last game against the preds, they've played the good teams close pretty much all year. It's a long season, can't expect game 7 effort every night. 15 games from now, that changes. Right now they're fine.
  7. Agreed. Not that this will apply to Coffey, but what's the problem with bringing in fringe guys on MiL contracts with ST invites? If they work out, they are cheap, only around for a year and do the bolded above. If they don't work out, in most cases they are probably released outright by the end of ST and the guys they hang on to are filler in AAA, available if injuries happen and cheap and only around for a year. It may not be a win/win, but it's far from a loss or a waste. There's nothing more demoralizing than the BP blowing a lead. While they may not be terribly successful at it, the 2012 Cubs are still going to at least try to win games. More middle relief options helps tha cause. There will be plenty of time to try out the kids later in the season.
  8. If Nashville never loses the rest of the season, yes, the blackhawks are in trouble. If St. Louis continues to play above their actual talent, yes, that could cause trouble too. It's hard to see either of those things happening for 30 more games. There aren't 8 teams in the Western Conference that are better than the Hawks. Last night they ran into a hot goaltender. That's going to happen sometimes. These next 2 games against 2 borderline terrible teams will be a good barometer of how much freaking out anyone should do.
  9. It's weird because the Bears were the overwhelming favorite and won convincingly, the exact opposite of what happened on St. Crispin's Day. That reference would hav been better for the Giants beating the Patriots. I thought Superbowl XXX (Dallas beats Pittsburgh) was a pretty entertaining game that was close until late in the game. I remember watching it in a bar and the guys sitting next to me needed 1 more point for the over under and would have covered if not for Neil O'Donnell's 3rd int of the day.
  10. Outside of Chicago, fans probably aren't paying such close attention to his "terrible season". The fact that he's an American player certainly wouldn't hurt from a marketing standpoint. Add in the fact that lots of people couldn't name 3 hockey players after Ovechkin and Crosby all they'd really have to do is get ESPN to start showing him as their only hockey highlight of the day. Voila, he's the face of the NHL in America. That doesn't make him the best player but that doesn't stop Jeter from being the face of MLB (arguably) or Brady in the NFL.
  11. The good news is he can play all over the field and he's a switch hitter. He's extremely versatile having played professionally at 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, LF, CF, and RF. He's got plus speed and a plus glove. Good player to have come off the bench. He's been poor offensively in the bigs unfortunately. Pretty good minor league career got him spots in the Futures Game and AAA All Star game though. Hopefully if he makes the team he'll have better numbers because his plate appearances off the bench should go up a good bit being in the NL now. I'm glad he's a Cub! Too lazy to play catcher?
  12. Somewhere, the trade Kane crowd is thinking this: THATS WHY HE HASNT SCORED ANY GOALS, CUZ HES BEEN TOO BUSY PLANNING THIS SUPERMAN BIZ. TRADE HIM! HE DIDNT EVEN HIT ANYBODY IN THE ALL STAR GAME!!!!!
  13. The skills competition is more interesting and entertaining than the game, but I'm sure I'll watch both. Baseball is really the only sport that should actually play its all star game. Name the team, have the skills competition and then go home.
  14. My initial reaction: Bolland stays on the 2nd line, Kruger to 3rd line and Morrison to 4th line. With everybody healthy the depth chart looks like this Toews- Kane- Sharp Bolland- Hossa- Stalberg Kruger- Shaw- Frolik Morrison- Mayers- Hayes Bickell has his own personal recliner sent to the press box where he and Lepisto play 3 man cribbage with John Scott.
  15. you say that now, but when barney wins the mvp this year you'll be all like "SEE GUYS I ACTUALLY PREDICTED THIS BEFORE THE SEASON STARTED" Not going to happen, because Sappelt will split the Chicago voters. Is Jim Frey available to teach Barney to hit for power? If he hit 17 triples and 19 HRs I might rethink my "Darwin Barney kinda sucks" position.
  16. If they are willing to trade Avila, the Cubs would be a good landing spot for him. Garza, Soto and Vitters for Avila and Turner.
  17. It was funny hearing them refer to Ottawa as "The Nation's Capitol" during the all star selections.
  18. I didn't know there was a person alive who hadn't bet on the Super Bowl that way. We've got complete non-sports fans doing this one, and half the sports bars put one up around the time the playoffs start and people start buying. The "touching" squares winning at the end of a quarter is lame. That should only happen once, at the final score. A variation that I hadn't heard before was a payout every time the score changes with the final score collecting whatever money is left at the end. If you draw 0-0 you automatically win money.
  19. Is this a joke? ESPN's integrity has been in question for years. I think we are beyond that now... EDIT: Oh wait, old-timers picked the list...too many hits to the head I guess. Sid Luckman and YA Tittle were better passers than Tebow. Tebow would have made an awesome Left Tackle. That's where someone of his size would have played back then. Maybe that's what they meant. I'd bet that back in the '20s Tebow would be considered a good passer.
  20. Didn't the O's take Flaherty in the Rule 5 draft? Now that they have Betemit they may return Flaherty.
  21. Which do you think the union would rather have, 30 more MLB jobs at the league minimum or 15 existing jobs making substantially more money?
  22. Here's the positive spin on all this: Better to suffer these injuries now rather than later. This pretty much forces the issue on 2nd pairing defenseman and Center. Still plenty of season left for a talented team to make the playoffs. This will give us a chance to see what hayes, Shaw and Pirri can actually do. We've seen the early positive returns on these guys. Now we can see them a little more exposed and get a better idea of what we have going forward.
  23. Didn't the Brewers get stuck with a reliever that unexpectedly accepted arby to the tune of ~$10 mill.? Did the Brewers even make an offer to Fielder?
  24. the over/ under is 55.5. Tough one. I think the over
  25. The Orioles could offer him more years and money than any of those other teams. Texas has already said they aren't interested. Even if that's just a leverage ploy it still probably means that they don't want to give him more than 5 years. How can the Dodgers pay him with the ownership issues they're having. The Nats just gave Morse a new contract meaning they are in the same boat as Texas- either genuinely not interested or not willing to pay. A team like the Orioles really needs a big splash. It would be worth it to overpay Fielder. They've got to give their fans a reason to believe and right now they are staying away in droves. They're in danger of becoming the AL version of the Pirates.
