Teams don't seem as willing as they once were to "mortgage the farm" for rental players like Lee. But we're talking 7 months from now, and the economy is likely past the worst stage, and teams have been very cautious for two years now. It's quite likely things will be looking up by this November, and teams that have been sitting and waiting will want to make a splash. Aramis is a very productive player, and if he bounces back this season, his resume would be terrific for a free agency. If he returns to 2007/2008 form, you think it would be hard for him to get $16m this offseason? In this economy? It's possible he does, but I don't think it's a lock like it would have been a few years ago. The economy will have had to recover toward the beginning of this season to affect next offseason. Teams are more likely to base what they can spend on what they made this year rather than what they might hope to make next year. The economy can just as easily regress over the summer too.
