  1. What's so prestigious about Iowa basketball? Purdue has always been the other team in Indiana and haven't done too well on the recent success front.
  2. A basketball program is much easier to turn around though. If you can get 2-3 good players you can fill out the rest of the roster with willing role players and go from terrible to not too bad in a couple years. Once things are headed in the right direction recruiting becomes a lot easier.
  3. There's plenty of time to turn Cashner into a reliever, if that's his fate. The Cubs have plenty of viable options for that last BP spot. It won't hurt Cashner or the Cubs for him to continue starting the first half of the season.
  4. How about we keep Cashner at AA and let him try to become a much more valuable starting pitcher.
  5. Is IU basketball a better or worse situation than Notre Dame football? Different sports but similar in terms of tradition vs unrealistic expectations.
  6. Most QBs get killed when they don't have a good o-line in front of them. His last 3 years his QB's averaged taking 56 sacks a year. The previous two years were 43 and 50. That's not the norm. Even Cutler only took 35 last year. If their o-line isn't improved he's going to take an additional 20-25 sacks in this offense and take even more hits. That's bad news. sooooooooo whaaaaaaat hey, quick question. If Favre doesn't come back next year, Peterson fumbles another 10 times, the MN legislator screws Ziggy again, what do you think the over/under on their names becoming the "L.A. Cholos"? probably better then the Vikings. Then? To?
  7. One of our custodians looks just like Leon Durham. Too bad no one here (at school) knows who Leon Durham is.
  8. They're missing out on a good tag line if you ask me. Tiger says "Gatorade helped me get la... no longer thirsty."
  9. Doesn't prestige play a big part regardless? Indiana is still the face of Big 10 basketball to a lot of people despite their recent troubles.
  10. I can't see a set of circumstances, with neutral loyalty, where Iowa would be a better job than Wisconsin. "Where can I recruit" becomes a big issue since Iowa doesn't have any large cities and "how do I get players to go there?" could be too rural as compared to say Columbus, East Lansing, Madison.
  11. During the Illinois- Minnesota debacle, one of the announcers was talking about how respected Tubby Smith was and it made me wonder, if he's so highly thought of, why can't he get a better job than Minnesota? Which got me thinking about Big 10 jobs and how they would rank. So I was curious how people would rank the big 10 jobs based on tradition, recent success, recruiting opportunities, location and other intangibles. Taking homerism out as much as possible, what's the #1 job in the Big 10? My ranking would go like this: Mich State Indiana Illinois Wisconsin OSU Minnesota Michigan Purdue Iowa Northwestern Penn St.
  12. summary: he'll get between 7-13 million over 2-3 years depending on how well he does this year. I'm guessing Hendry will give him 2year/ $21 million
  13. In recent years the Cubs have placed greater emphasis on pitchers. On that front they have been a lot more successful.
  14. I thought he got a pretty nice ovation that stood out from most. He deserved the same ovation that Miller got.
  15. USA Canada was everything that Canada -Russia was supposed to be but with fewer goals scored. It's important to remember that if the US hadn't beaten Canada they might not have even won a medal. I was disappointed that Toews didn't get more love from the Canadian crowd. He was their best player throughout the tournament but he got about the same applause as Seabrook.
  16. That depends. Would you be buried where the 3rd nbaseman usually stands or would your body be lying in state in an open casket. If you're buried or your ashes are in an urn than I have to give a slight edge to Millar.
  17. So the Hawks are still practicing during this break? I really hadn't found much to read about them over the last 2 weeks. I thought they all went off and had a vacation, or maybe had a week off and are not practicing to stay sharp for next Tuesday (only 5 more days until Blackhawks hockey!) Practice started today. I heard them mention that during the Canada Germany game the other day. Emrick pointed out that the team Germany players wouldn't have to report for 2 days or something like that.
  18. Before the lockout I was more of a Boston Bruins fan because they were on ESPN a lot (those were the days). Also, the Blackhawks of the late 80s played a really boring style of dump and chase hockey. After the lockout I stopped following hockey. The Blackhawks have brought me back. The game has gotten so much faster now it's a shame they can't get a real TV deal to expose it to a wider audience. Maybe if the US wins the Gold medal ESPN will give it another try.
  19. I've thought from the beginning that Hendry is doing Millar a favor by letting him prove to himself that he can no longer play or maybe to give him the chance to show some other team what he can do. The Cubs aren't really paying Millar anything so there's no real harm in having him around during ST. I don't see Millar making the team unless Soriano or Nady are injured to start the season. If he doesn't make the team he gets released unless he just loves baseball so much that he agrees to play at AAA. Guys like that usually play in the Independent leagues or maybe Japan.
  20. That's better than seeing Theriot in the super utility role, getting starts in CF and 3rd.
  21. I'll never understand what made Wilson think that it would be a good idea to charge the mound. He got the idea from Robin Ventura. Was that the most humiliating baseball beat down of all time? 60 year old Nolan Ryan giving him noogies!
  22. Why does any player have to justify chosing to sign with the Yankees?
  23. Baker is the one that should be mad. Fontenot's LH bat will find more time at 2nd than Baker if Castro is starting at SS.
  24. She's got to be kidding, right? Who's going to have sympathy for a woman that had sex with a famous married man as famous as Tiger Woods?
  25. The PGA is not going to allow people to heckle Tiger Woods. He's way too important to golf. The PGA Tour will take him back and he will win. There's not much doubt about that. The real question is will he ever get his endorsements back? Maybe he could do an Enzyte ad.
