  1. If your local choices are Columbus and Nasville, I'd get center ice and pick a different team from anywhere else. Since you already have a Chicago connection, the Hawks are a good place to start.
  2. No, because of the length of contract. It might wind up being cheaper to pay him until he retires. As mentioned, they'll buy out rust eze and I would think Montador would be another candidate. I read one article that suggested they might buy out Keith but that might have been based purely on length of contract.
  3. Troy Aikman said Yes, that's a big part of it.
  4. While you were reading this, a hot girl just joined singlesnet
  5. They've been saying January 11 for about 3 weeks now, so that's officially 1 week away.
  6. Houston- doesn't deserve to but beats Cincy Indy- beats a very overrated Ravens team NE destroys the Texans Den routes the Colts Den beats NE Vikings- make the Packers wish they had knocked them out of the playoffs when they had the chance Seahawks- break the hearts of delusional Redskins fans Atlanta breaks tradition and wins a playoff game SF wins a close game SF reminds everyone why it's a bad idea to pick the Flacons to win a playoff game Denver wins the superbowl and we all get so tired of Peyton Manning that we briefly consider watching the pro bowl in hopes that he somehow gets pulverized by some liquored up kicker.
  7. It's hard to believe we could get him on a decent contract when he's got 5 teams interested in him. I was thinking the same thing. But who are the 5 teams? Also, how does he define interested? In agent speak, "They didn't laugh then hang up"= interest.
  8. This article is a bunch of nonsense with no actual reporting involved it looks like. Coach x could get fired unless they decide to keep him and fire Y from the organization instead. In other news, unless they win or tie their next game, team Z will lose. If the Bears win and finish the season 10-6 but still miss the playoffs, they probably will fire Tice instead of Smith. Look, now I'm a reporter.
  9. I just realized that the national championship game will be played on my grandfather's 105th birthday. For his sake, I hope Notre Dame wins, since he is their oldest living active Alumnus. Growing up in the midwest, I certainly appreciate why people hate ND but I can't help feeling more than a little tired of hearing about how great the SEC is even if it is true. Meanwhile, ND hasn't been worth hating for at least 10 years if not 20. They're kind of like the Dallas Cowboys in that respect.
  10. In light of what's happened today, I fully expect the Bears to finish 10-6 and still miss the playoffs since that would be the worst possible outcome.
  11. The least reliably meaningful portions of the equation But potentially very important if they move Barney for more offense at 2nd (at some point) or use Vitters at 3rd.
  12. Yes, it sucks to have 22 year olds that put up a .859 OPS in AAA. At a position that half the league is scrambling to fill. Including the Cubs. I'm still troubled by the decision to bring up Vitters but not play him.
  13. I'd say the objections run along these lines: 1. What 3 players are the Cubs likely to establish this year? The top 5 prospects are all 2 years away 2. The difference between losing 84 and 94 games lies in the entertainment value. I'd like my favorite team to have a chance to win games sometimes. 3. There's no guarantee that the "be bad for 3 years" plan will work.
  14. Looking at the Giants schedule, I don't think they make the playoffs. Also, SF is not a lock in the West since the only road game the Seahawks have left is at Buffalo. When I do the playoff machine I have the Redskins winning the East and the Seahawks winning the West. Giants still play at BAL and at ATL. 49ers are at SEA and at NE. I think the seeds end up: 1 ATL 2 GB 3 SEA 4 WAS 5 SF 6 CHI Of course this could all just be wishful thinking on my part. I don't want to see the Giants in the playoffs. The Ravens have been winning with smoke and mirrors all season. They barely beat the Cowboys and had no business beating the Chargers. They aren't nearly as good as their record. That game at the end of the year will be meaningless to Atlanta since they will already have HF. Meanwhile, talk here is that they might rest RGIII this week. They can't win without him.
  15. Thinking about playoffs scenarios, if the Bears are the 6th seed, their path would be at the Giants, at Atlanta and then at either SF or Green Bay (probably in that order but who really knows with SF) With a few healthy bodies none of those games seem like horrible mismatches for the Bears. I'm not sure if that makes me feel better or worse.
  16. Greinke looked really uncomfortable at the presser. Admittedly, I didn't watch the whole thing. He said that he looked at the lineups of all the teams he was cosndiering and decided that the Dodgers were the best.
  17. Do we know for sure that Cutler is able to play? It could get really ugly if he doesn't
  18. Would they consider Soriano, if he doesn't get traded, as an option to back up 1st? It would keep his bat in the lineup, save wear and tear plus it would make him more marketable for a mid season trade if such becomes available. Would they just leave Vitters up as the back up corner guy? He's played 3rd, 1st and LF though I've never heard how he looked in the OF.
  19. I always hated that he spelled Tom with an H. I could, however, forgive DeWayne Statts for his dumb name.
  20. Because he sucked at his job, just less so than others. The only reason to keep him was that there were horrifically worse options. No one will miss Brenly. oh come on. To put things in perspective, The list of Cubs broadcasters that I hate includes (but is not necessarily limited to): Harry Caray, Chip Caray, Milo Hamilton, Joe Carter, Jack Brickhouse, Lou Boudreau (sp?) and Brenly. It's possible that someone will have fond memories of Brenly ragging on Aramis Ramirez but I'd guess that if the new guy is as good as he seems no one will find themselves wishing that Brenly would return.
  21. Whether you believe that the Red Sox plan is their best long term strategy is moot. They might very well be better off punting this season. The fact that they aren't suggests that they will be at least a little better this year. They will certainly be better than they would be if they hit the reset button like the Cubs did. The Orioles were 13-5 against the Red Sox last season. Any improvement by a team that they will play a lot will hurt their chances of making the playoffs. Oddly enough, they were also 13-5 against the Yankees. I doubt that they'll be able to do that again. Thus, I'm skeptical of the Orioles as a legit contender this season. Didn't they have one of the worst run differentials of any playoff team last season?
  22. Because he sucked at his job, just less so than others. The only reason to keep him was that there were horrifically worse options. No one will miss Brenly.
  23. Would he accept a trade to the O's? It's really hard to say. He'd be a decent fit there but with Toronto getting better, The Yankees being the Yankees and Boston not getting the memo about having to be bad for multiple years before competing again, it's hard to believe that the O's won't take a step back unless they get someone younger and better than Soriano.
  24. How are you defining top prospect? Highest ceiling? Most likely to obtain ceiling? By some standards, (closest to making an impact on the MLB roster) you could vote Vizcaino since he might be a TOR starter by the end of the 2013 season.
  25. I wish we could find a talented 25 year old to put on the field. I'd rather have 2 guys under 25, one of which is a top 5 player at his position (Castro) and another could well be a top 10 at his position after the year (Rizzo). No way will the cubs ever make that happen though. Not with the current management team
