  1. it would be like the Cubs starting the season 17-0. Or the Bears starting 2-0. If it's going to take about 55 points to make the playoffs then the Hawks could lose half their remaining games and still be ok.
  2. I think you are over glorifying the LB position by a country mile. Also, 30-40 years ago it was much more important than it has been the past decade. Defensive backs and pass rushers have been more important in the modern era. Agree. But what DB or pass rusher in the last 10 years could make a claim to be better than Ray Lewis? Not a year at a time, but body of work. Revis has been the best player at times. JJ Watt this year. Nobody has been consistently elite at those position the way Ray was from the start of his career to about 4-5 years ago. Not really a fair question since the shelf life of a defensive back or pass rusher is likely much shorter than a typical middle linebacker. But since you asked, how about Ed Reed? How is it not a fair question? It's kind of the point, and what those guys I listed have over every defensive player ever. They were great for a very long time. As for Reed, he would definitely have an argument. It's much easier to have longevity at LB than DB. It's like trying to compare a RB to a QB. The average RB lasts about 3 seasons but a QB can last forever in some cases
  3. Didn't Valbuena come up through the Indians organization? Soriano plus Vitters makes more sense providing the non 40 man guys even out the deal.
  4. Fair enough on Roszival. I'd rather play Emery Sat vs Columbus. The BJs have snuck up on the teams that they've played so far. In the long run, Det is more of a threat for the division. Some day Det really will be too old, too slow, etc. but they always seem to find a way to be a factor.
  5. Tonight there was a good SOG margin but overall it's actually only been ok. Tonight: Hawks 41 Stars 23 STL: Blues 34 Hawks 27 PHX: Hawks 31 Coyotes 29 LA: Hawks 22 Kings 21 Interesting I guess other than the St. Louis game it just didn't seem like our keepers have been stressed all that much. not all SOG are created equal. The Hawks had a lot of quality chances last night. It was very satisfying to see Toews and Hossa both score after being robbed 3-4 times each. Dallas is really awful on the dot, that helped a lot regarding SOG since they spent less time chasing. I really like what Saad has been doing. The Toews, Hossa, Saad line is a really good 2 way line and creates some nightmare matchups. Roszival hasn't looked as good as his debut. I wonder if Brookbank will get the start against the BJs. Roszival should get the bulk of the PT but his age and the short turnaround might mean that we see more of Brookbank than we want to. admittedly, it's a small sample re Brookbank.
  6. Center Ice is worth it just for Kathryn Tappen

  8. He might be too tired after 3 games in 4 days. Maybe he'll have some sent in. I'm glad he's decided to make all the people that wanted to trade him for a goalie look even dumber.
  9. Yeah, the guy revolutionized celebrating every tackle as though it won the game even the it's 7 yards down the field and it's 2nd and 3.
  10. Leddy had a really strong game today. It seemed like having Brookbank there helped him. Oduya and Hjammer seemed to have good chemistry on that 2nd pair. Shaw seemed pretty invisible though I guess that's not necessarily bad when the stars show why they're stars.
  11. Might be wishful thinking but here are the lineups for game 1 Toews Hossa Stalberg Bolland Kan Sharp Kruger Bickell Carcillo Mayers Shaw Frolik Keith Seabrook Oduya Leddy Brookbank Hjammer Crawford Healthy scratch: Rosilazislovis however you spell his name, Saad and Bollig. Don't need to fight in game 1 so no Bollig. Q needs at least 1 game to put Stalberg in the doghouse. The 6th and 7th defensmen will split time.
  12. I just got done reading the last 20 pages of this thread- wow. I don't buy the gay angle- if she was a cover up for being gay he wouldn't have had her die of cancer. If he was gay and decided to go to ND, he could have blamed the no girls thing on either being Mormon or the sorry state of female ND students- which is reported fairly universally in my experience. So the other options are that he was either duped by his friend who, for some reason, wanted revenge or he was trying to generate sympathy so he could win the Heisman. I think the simplest explanation was that he was duped for a while but then made stuff up to cover up how dumb he was. Either way, he did lie about what happened and used it to get attention and sympathy.
  13. I'd guess that a lot of the guys that didn't play during the lockout look like crap this week. Crawford looking terrible early may be better in the long run since it might force Stan Bowman to make a trade. The worst case scenario is that he looks ok but the Hawks still lose and the blame it on Kane somehow- or Bollig not being on the team.
  14. It seems like Montador's injury might prevent them from making any trades that might bring in a new goalie. If Monty was healthy they could consider moving Hjammer or perhaps Leddy but now they really can't since Olsen has taken steps back so far and the others aren't ready or not good enough. Of course they could trade either Stalberg or Bickell. It seems like Stalberg would have more value and is more expendable but I think they may want to just ride his contract year to glory and see what happens with regards to paying him.
  15. On the flip side, I'd really love the final story line to be that Billy Cundiff kicks the winning FG that beats the Ravens. That would easily make up for anything they say about Ray Lewis.
  16. Every QB that can run poses that same threat.
  17. Even if I did know before, I'm sure I don't know now since the new CBA changed certain aspects of waivers. This has to be some sort of formality in order to invite him to camp. Hutton is old and his future in the NHL is speculative at best but he's done a good job for Rockford so far this season leading some to wonder if he could be Crawford 2.0, ie. late bloomer that makes the most of his chance to finally get the call.
  18. He hasn't been setting the world on fire for Rockford so far. It's hard to known what to make of what some of these players did in the AHL. Saad was a pretty big disappointment and then he exploded this weekend with 6 pts (2g, 4 ast.)
  19. This is how they lined up today according to the Trib. Toews with Hossa and Carcillo Bolland with Sharp and Kane I wonder if they go with Kruger with Bickell and Stalberg and Mayers with Frolik and Shaw. I'd much rather switch Stalberg and Carcillo. Or maybe put Frolik on the checking line and have the 4th be a real energy/ instigator line with Carcillo and Shaw with a little bit of Bollig mixed in.
  20. I live in Ravens country and everyone assumes I'm a fan. I've been telling them at I might get on board as soon as Ray Lewis retires. But yeah, I really enjoy not having to worry about the Packers winning.
  21. Ironic, given how Bradford had 10x the hype of Kaepernick and Wilson combined at draft time. For a long time, the pocket passer has been king- Manning, Brady, Brees. Mobile QB's have shown promise in the past, but never more than a few guys, often guys with flaws in the passing game. Now there are a few mobile QB's on the verge of being elite QB's. Let's see if it gains more momentum. Mobile QBs don't have a very good track record as far as longevity goes in the NFL unless they show that they can also stay in the pocket and read defenses. Def. Coordinators will always be able to figure out how to contain a running QB. When that happens they have to show the ability to check down in order to be elite players.
  22. It's almost that time of year when sports talk picks a story line for the big game and beats it to death. Which will we get tired of hearing about first.
  23. Looking at the schedule, the Hawks play on back to back nights 10 times. Assuming that most teams have similar schedules, it seems like that would benefit a team like the Hawks who have a young but experienced core. However, there are some important issues that need to be addressed that will determine how far the Hawks go: 1 The clown shoes power play will have to get better. The talent is there, hopefully the coaching change helps 2 How will they fill out the top 6? With Q preferring Sharp on the wing and the Kane to C experiment seemingly abandoned, who's centering Hossa and I guess Stalberg( if in fact he's not on the 3rd line instead? 3 How much will the Q random line generator hurt chemistry over a short season?
  24. Because he's Jim Hendry and he does right by the players? Given the age, health and possible trade of Soriano, and the fact that their is at least one opening, he should expect to play but I can't imagine anyone promisimg him anything.
  25. Heh... I got in an argument with my brother over wins and losses for pitchers. My brother even said "I understand exactly what your saying" and still didn't see the point. We were debating whether or not Samardzija has ace quality stuff. He said "He couldn't even win 10 games last year. If you can't win at least 10 games, you're can't even be considered an ace" The dumbest baseball argument ever was between me and my Yankee fan brother. I said that the reason the Yankees won all those WS during the late 90s/ early 2000s was because they had a team full of guys like Bernie Williams that got on base a lot. He said it was because Bernie Williams was clutch.
