  1. come on. It's asinine. The Cubs and all the other teams trying to woo Ohtani are all working on multiple fronts to make their teams better. No team is going to sit on their hands and wait out to see what happens. They have to proceed as if he's not going to sign with them. The effect on Ohtani is not relevant. In other words, the Cubs are not spending farm capital and $25M to show Ohtani they mean business. Everyone should know that.
  2. That will have 0 impact on signing him. If they weren't serious, they wouldn't be in the bidding to give him half a billion dollars to play baseball for them.
  3. Whoever runs “sports mockery” hates Justin Fields. Does anyone know what Kyle is doing these days?
  4. Yeah, I don't agree with this assessment at all. He's going to play 80 games in Wrigley, the easiest place to play CF in the majors. He has to hit. They don't have enough thump in their lineup to have a 1970s SS manning CF. I don't care what the advanced metrics say. Saving runs is not the same as scoring runs.
  5. lock this MFer.
  6. To me, getting a front-line starting pitcher or two, some more thump in the lineup and a dependable couple of relief pitchers or bust. I don't care how they get there and if they have to use some farm depth, that's ok too. But they need to fill the holes on the team.
  7. They could have gotten in bed with anyone and done well. The Cubs are a gold mine even the Ricketts can't destroy.
  8. You have to believe that MLB will get involved somehow and salvage this in some way. Baseball is, and probably always will be a regional sport simply due to the frequency of games. They will find a way to monetize viewership better than the RSNs and make a pile of money for the league. It's also not just baseball that is affected either, the NBA and NHL are also on the hook here.
  9. He traded Lou Brock because too many blacks on the team.
  10. The Cubs must find a way to let him break into the league. I've been thinking about this since Ross got canned. I believe one the major reasons Ross was fired was because he couldn't/wouldn't let the rookies play while they were trying to compete for a playoff spot. I don't think they would have retained him regardless after this year. I don't know what kind of player he's going to be, but I love how aggressively he plays the game. He's going to have to learn to manage the strike zone and swing for the middle of the field though. I'm cautiously optimistic he will be a very good MLB player, maybe not a superstar though.
  11. My dislike of the Ricketts is so intense it borders on irrational, but they seem like the best team owners in Chicago history. Maybe Bill Veeck when he owned the White Sox was better.
  12. Cade Horton, a badass. The best pitcher in the Cubs system since Mark Prior. Can't wait to see him in Wrigley.
  13. I was going to post something similar to this. This screams, "We need news" to me. I've not been on the Soto bandwagon for the Cubs. But I have serious doubts about this report.

    NFL Week 12

it's just that our society is so very fucked up right now. This is not a thing that anyone should spend any time either getting upset about or defending. But that's not what is going to happen. If they are offended, It would be great if a group of concerned citizens would reach out to the Chiefs organization and explicitly ask them to not allow people to wear traditional costumes or whatever in the stadium. That would solve the problem at the antecedent stage. If the Chiefs organization refuses, then they can make a case in public. But people are always going to do stupid horsefeathers, not out of malice all the time, but out of ignorance. There are obvious counterexamples. A bar owner in my old home town posted on Facebook his food menu and a White Power hand gesture, within 8 months the bar was on the verge of bankruptcy and sold.

    NFL Week 12

You can't blame this kid for dressing like this or whatever. It's on his parents. But also, and lets be honest, it's nothing to get upset about unless you are looking to be offended.
  16. Wisnecki is from Humboldt Park and he's off the books plumber who also, "knows some guys".
  17. In one of these many pitching FA threads rolling around the new and improved NSBB there were some comments about Tallion. I am actually fairly optimistic about a healthy bounce-back year for him if he comes into spring training in shape. He came into camp last year about 20-30 pounds overweight. But he had a great spring. I'm pretty sure he had 0 walks in Arizona. Then as the year started he lost his command. I think this was partially because he was out of shape. I don't expect that Jed Hoyer's Cubs will let that happen again. So If Tallion can pitch like he's capable of pitching and they had a front-line starter along with what they already have, they may have the best starting 6-7 in the NL. I'm less optimistic about Hendricks moving forward. I'm hoping he can muster 10 good starts.
  18. The problem with being tied to everyone is it sometimes means being tied to nobody. It’s rumor season and dream me a little dream season. Writers need to sell copy. i do like that there is smoke attached to the Cubs. We have to see what happens.
  19. Hopefully some day someone connected with the Bears during Poles's time as GM writes a tell all book on the dysfunction of the organization.
  20. I agree with everything, but Bregman fits the needs of the team better. Let's take Ohtani out of the EQ, he just costs money. If I get to pick, I'm picking Bregman.
  21. I don't think that is annoying, but on the other hand, what do you expect to change? I mean, the Bears and Fields have been consistently inconsistent all season.
  22. you can slice it any way you want to. Since 2018 then and only once. Again, we can expect about 1/2 season from him. As long as they build on that potentiality, ok fine. I think people are juiced about getting him because the Cubs don't have a guy like him right now. But he can't pitch from the IR list.
  23. They seem to have a scripted first drive that works really well. I'm guessing that they practice those plays in order during the week. Then after that, it sort of falls apart. I go back and forth on Fields so much. I kind of feel sorry for him. Either he's in way over his head or he's been poorly coached. He's not like Trubisky at all. You can see the talent in individual plays. You can see the ability to throw from different angles and doing all the stuff a good QB does. It has to be poor playcalling and coaching. Gun to my head, I'd stick with him and see if I could get in a coaching staff that had a clue. They are not an awful team. But last night was a classic game for them. They should have blown out Minnesota by more than three scores, and they won 12-10.
  24. or all the above.
  25. since 2016 when he first broke into the majors he's thrown over 100 innings twice. Although, last year he managed to get in 120. So we can expect approximately half a season out of him. Not exactly lighting my fire. I don't really care how much money he makes, but he will cost talent. IMO, that's too big of a risk.
