    This game kind of felt like it was going this way for a while. Only so much traffic you can manage.

    The Boers and Bernstein, Mike and the Mad Dog, etc. era is definitely over. All those guys were extremely knowledgeable and lived and breathed local sports. They were nerds in the best sense of the word and able to articulate a point in a way to get reaction. Now, it's sort of like East Bond and Down sports entertainment that's about the personality or like everyone else pointed out, a tout board for sports betting.

    I think Counsel will roll the dice and just want to get into the playoffs. But I would play for the home game.

    I wouldn't even call Birdsell a prospect unless you consider a future middle reliever with constant trips to the IL a prospect. Same with Wiggins. He may become a usable closer if he can consistently miss bats.

    He seems to wear down a bit during the season. Not a bad idea to have a six man rotation of give him more rest on the front end of the season. He's a good pitcher - but he doesn't have much room for performance decreases/ebb and flow.

    Keply is going to have to slug above .400 or ML pitchers will throw him meatballs and let him hit it as far as he can.

    I'm glad the Cubs won, but not just Counsel, it seems like a lot of managers don't recognize the obvious signs a pitcher is gassed. Two games in a row now, he's left the starter in an inning too long.

    Did anyone ask CC why he left Gausman in so long when he was clearly gassed on a 100 degree heat index day?

    The length of this offense is remarkable when everyone is hitting. Almost unstoppable.

    The NFL and NBA owners made a conscious decision to grant equity to players and build a true partnership. You think the baseball owners are going to do that? Hoping and wishing by the fans is what will put pressure on the players to take a bad deal. Instead, we should be 100% behind the players about getting a fair share. The only way a cap will work is if the owners don't play record-label games with the players over profits.

    What is wrong with you? Their competitive advantage is they have smart people in key positions doing great work. Nothing MLB can do about that.

    I really hope they don't trade Pedro unless it's for a really good starting pitcher who's not on the edge of FA.
