  1. Guys the Cubs could/should move to fill holes (they have value) Canario, Triantos, Vazquez, Murray, Mervis, McGeary, Franklin, Rivera, C. Franklin Guys I'd be reluctant to trade but would in the right deal Wicks, Brown, Caissie, Ballistaros Guys I really want to hang on to Rojas, PCA, Horton, Shaw, Alcantara, Grey Guys who we like but have little trade value Hernandez, K Franklin, Davis, Killian
  2. Brian Dopirak had incredible EVs, now he's a charter boat captain. Just saying.
  3. I don't think that is true at all. Right now PCA is a glove-first type of player that we all hope learns to tone down his hyper-aggressive approach to maximize his bat-to-ball skills. He's not Baez but as close to Baez as we've had since. He doesn't have as much power and is less likely to make swing decisions before the pitcher releases the ball. I don't think they will consider trading him for Soto, but that doesn't mean there aren't things that PCA needs to work on.
  4. don't give up hope!
  5. They just play Jason Heyward $25 million to go fishing for half a season. There is a lot they can do..
  6. You can’t talk your way out of this one.
  7. Lol. They are only allowed to have 8 position players on the team now?
  8. Alcantara/Horton is your main dish. PCA is dessert.
  9. The things that Ross did less well speak to deficiencies in his critical thinking process. The things he did well are strong indicators of a good leader but are less about the mechanical part of managing. He wasn't an awful manager, but the things he did less well cost him a handful of winnable games. The things he was good at are less able to be quantified. Jed and Tommy Boy obviously think Counsell is better.
  10. When Counsell continues to throw the corps of Eric Hosmer to play every day or even at all, I’ll be the first to criticize him.
  11. I get what you are saying and largely agree, but there is really real and there is what we are willing to pay. Getting Counsell is a big shock to my system and a re-evaluation set point for me. Before I would bet heavily that they are really going to make an offer, but it will be well short of what he actually wants or gets. Now, I don't know.
  12. BN has some great ones too. https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/2023/11/07/brewers-fans-craig-counsell/
  13. I don't think you will have much to worry about in the Fields being good department. Also, Eberflus seems to find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, so I think they are a safe bet to be in the top five. If they fall in love with a QB would they trade up from 5?
  14. I think Fields being decent and the Bears losing are mutually exclusive choice points.
  15. Whoever Anthony is has the Giants committing almost a billion dollars to FA this year.
  16. You're certainly entitled to an opinion. They didn't hire Counsell as a message to other teams.
  17. I'm not a Ross fan, but I think that is a little to harsh of an assessment of Ross. Ross did the dugout culture thing pretty well. His teams played hard even when they didn't have to play hard. However, I think due to his experiences as a player, his in-game decisions weren't always good and sometimes awful. He let starters pitch to failure. He overused a few guys in the pen. He probably contributed to some arm injuries. He also had little patience with rookies. All and all, I'd put him squarely in the middle range of managers. Not terrible, but not a guy you want when you are trying to win a championship.
  18. I’ve been pretty hard on the Ricketts. Harder than most. I must say I don’t like them, their politics, or really anything about them. They are not good people. But, I like that they let Jed go after Counsel. And gave him the opportunity to sign him to that record setting contract. My hat is off.
  19. Ross is such a red ass. I bet he is salty as horsefeathers at Hoyer.
  20. I can't imagine a situation where just a few weeks ago Hoyer and Tommy Boy were praising Ross. They knew Counsel was on an expiring contract. I wonder what changed from the end of the offseason to a few days ago. It's crazy. I'd love to get the inside information on what happened. Because this is the biggest surprise since Theo was spotted at Starbucks.

  22. Maybe Ross is getting moved up too. He's under contract for 2024 with an option for 2025.
