  1. lol, Michigan is going to be 1 seed and get rolled by Georgia or Alabama
  2. I read an article in The Athletic about Ohtani’s agent. That is one weird dude. As is Ohtani.
  3. No MLB team is one player away from winning. Baseball, like soccer, and unlike basketball is a weak-link sport. You can't win with a star or two and scrubs. The best teams are the ones with the most depth. The Cubs and most other teams know that.
  4. I don't understand how people could get mad at the Cubs unless it came out that the offer was laughable or that it was rejected early on because it wasn't in the same tier as the others. This decision is in the hands of Ohtani. It's his to make.
  5. Why aren't they meeting in Nashville? This is all carzy.
  6. I don't think anything said should change anyone's expectations about what might happen. The funny thing to me is, that I was never that much into Ohtani coming to the Cubs for several reasons. Now, it's just the opposite.
  7. The worst part is that they probably would have still gotten him even if they didn't trade up to get him, if I remember correctly.
  8. There is a saying in commercial fishing that goes something like this, "don't tell me about the waves, bring in the fish". But it is really exciting to have the Cubs name in discussions for all these players. In the age of style over substance, I wouldn't put anything past anyone, but I don't think the Ricketts are blowing smoke here. It's such a change from the days gone by when the Cubs sat on the sidelines. At the same time, I hope they land a whopper or two.
  9. I didn’t watch the Seahawks/cowboys game, but apparently there were no punts by either team. How is that possible?
  10. I could see him choosing the Blue Jays. Toronto is a freaking great city to live in for the summer. It's low key and chill. The Blue Jays are Canada's Team and they travel well on the road. They have a lot of young talented players. It's a good spot to land.
  11. The dude from Toronto is a radio host. It would be quite something if he had a line into the upper management of the Jays.
  12. agreed
  13. ok. Put it in the PowerPoint in 18pt font along with making him Grand Marshall of the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Next to the 32pt font of half a billion dollars.
  14. come on. It's asinine. The Cubs and all the other teams trying to woo Ohtani are all working on multiple fronts to make their teams better. No team is going to sit on their hands and wait out to see what happens. They have to proceed as if he's not going to sign with them. The effect on Ohtani is not relevant. In other words, the Cubs are not spending farm capital and $25M to show Ohtani they mean business. Everyone should know that.
  15. That will have 0 impact on signing him. If they weren't serious, they wouldn't be in the bidding to give him half a billion dollars to play baseball for them.
  16. Whoever runs “sports mockery” hates Justin Fields. Does anyone know what Kyle is doing these days?
  17. Yeah, I don't agree with this assessment at all. He's going to play 80 games in Wrigley, the easiest place to play CF in the majors. He has to hit. They don't have enough thump in their lineup to have a 1970s SS manning CF. I don't care what the advanced metrics say. Saving runs is not the same as scoring runs.
  18. lock this MFer.
  19. To me, getting a front-line starting pitcher or two, some more thump in the lineup and a dependable couple of relief pitchers or bust. I don't care how they get there and if they have to use some farm depth, that's ok too. But they need to fill the holes on the team.
  20. They could have gotten in bed with anyone and done well. The Cubs are a gold mine even the Ricketts can't destroy.
  21. You have to believe that MLB will get involved somehow and salvage this in some way. Baseball is, and probably always will be a regional sport simply due to the frequency of games. They will find a way to monetize viewership better than the RSNs and make a pile of money for the league. It's also not just baseball that is affected either, the NBA and NHL are also on the hook here.
  22. He traded Lou Brock because too many blacks on the team.
  23. The Cubs must find a way to let him break into the league. I've been thinking about this since Ross got canned. I believe one the major reasons Ross was fired was because he couldn't/wouldn't let the rookies play while they were trying to compete for a playoff spot. I don't think they would have retained him regardless after this year. I don't know what kind of player he's going to be, but I love how aggressively he plays the game. He's going to have to learn to manage the strike zone and swing for the middle of the field though. I'm cautiously optimistic he will be a very good MLB player, maybe not a superstar though.
  24. My dislike of the Ricketts is so intense it borders on irrational, but they seem like the best team owners in Chicago history. Maybe Bill Veeck when he owned the White Sox was better.
