Get this people....not if paying Furcal $13 mill per isn't insanity....but they ARE ACTUALLY considering signing Mueller to play 1st base.

The Dodgers are looking at free agents Bill Mueller and Joe Randa to play first base.

 man the insanity just doesn't stop in LA. What's next....sign Kobe Bryant to play LF?

I like Billy Mueller a lot...but as a first baseman? Hmmm.....

Oh yeah, anyone know what they plan on doing with Izturis?

The thought right now is that he will slide over to 2B when he returns from his surgery around the all-star break. Kent will then move to first and Mueller, if signed, could move to the bench or 3B depending.

I think it's time to get involved in the expensive Johnny Damon sweepstakes. Would he take 5 years / $50 Million? Probably. Is he worth it? Maybe?

I'd go out and make the Pierre deal happen. It seems our only real competition right now would be the Rangers unless the Yanks will give up Cano? Then offer up everything but Pie, Murton and Cedeno and find a way to trade for Abreu. Williams+Hill+Aardsma? Trade prospects for a proven starter that we swing to Philly?

Barrett-Lee-Walker-Aramis-Cedeno-Murton-Pierre-Abreu. That will make things OK.

I'm thinking that the Dodgers are suffering from a severe case of Izturis which is overpaying for players without a plan.

I do think it's realistic to think if the Cubs are going to pull off a deal for Abreu they will have to give up one or more of either Cedeno,Murton or Pie. Williams,Hill & Aardsma won't be close to getting it done.

Now that Philly has traded Thome, isn't it more likely they will hold on to B.Abreu?

Agreed. I'll duck as I say it, but at this point I would do Pie, Hill and Williams for Abreu (w/ the Phils picking up some of the contract) and a picthing prospect (not Padilla).

Firstly, quoted the wrong person. Secondly, why would they want Cedeno or Murton? They'd want Pie but too bad. They want starting pitching and young relievers. That's what Williams+Hill+Aardsma are. If Bedard alone would get it done then a package as such would be more than "not close." And if they were to want a more proven starter then we use the pieces to trade for one in a three-way. No, the Phils are still trading Abreu with Thome gone.

I apologize for the misquote.

I respectfully disagree with your idea on what it will cost to acquire B.Abreu. Micheals is also said to be on the block. IIRC, the Phillies OF stands as: Abreu,Micheals,Rowand & Burrell. We will see if Abreu gets moved but I'm willing to take a guess & say he won't be traded.

I don't think Damon is worth it. His agent was talking about 7 years (which could be agent talk for give us 5) but Damon is older and I wouldn't feel as comfortable making that deal. If they pursue him it would mean Pie is nolonger untouchable and I doubt that's the case. I think Pierre in center may fit Hendry's thinking. Pie may be the CF in '07 depending on his development.

edited for spelling errors.

If you sign Damon (which I don't want, personally), it means that you can freely use Pie to get Abreu.

Thats true. And I dont want Damon either (at least not for the money boras wants) but sadly it may be our only chance of winning in 06.

I don't think Damon is our last hope. Lugo, Wilkerson, Bradley, Abreu, Dunn, Huff...some combination of two of them and we'll be fine.

they're just trying to outdo their "crosstown" rivals, who stuck a light hitting CF at 1b.

It's frustrating me to no ends that Cubs can't recognize that the most cost-effective lead off hitter on the market is already on their roster: Todd Walker.

Me too.

He doesn't have the speed to lead off.

Agreed.

Walker is a two man. To have the numbers to lead off is one thing, but to actually do it is another.

So... because dusty won't bat him there he isn't one?
