Brett Favre is to the Bears what Mike Schmidt was to the Cubs. He'll always kill you.

As much as I'd love to have the #1 pick and see Reggie Bush in green and gold next year, I want to take the wind out of the Bears sails as well.

I always am reminded of the fact that when you guys went 13-3 a few years ago, two of those losses were against the Packers.

You sound (here) like you root for the white sox 6 days a year and ignore baseball the other 359.

he is still a very good QB.

Farve's "very good" days are behind him. He's average now and has been an increasing liability over the last few years. Can he still tear it up every once and a while? Sure. But the days when he is unstoppable are now much rarer than the days in which he throws frequent crushing interceptions.

Favre is a good QB, and I'd love to have him on my team. The fact is that the offensive line is a shell of itself. The offensive line makes or breaks an offense much more so than a running back or a quarterback. Look at Plummer in Arizona vs. Denver, for example. I betcha David Carr agrees... Personally, If I had to choose, I'd take a great o-line over a great rb/qb combo any day. A great o-line will make an average qb or rb good. A great rb/qb combo will not make an average o-line good.

Literally, the bears would be favorites to make the superbowl if they had fav-reh instead of orton

If it were any other team with a 2-9 record coming into Soldier Field, I'd be a little worried about a letdown. But it's the Packers. No worries about a letdown.

And the Bear-Packer hatred runs both ways. I have a few friends who root for the Packers and in this season of turmoil they'd like nothing better than to beat up on the Bears. I know there's a "Bears Still Suck" song thats played over and over again, but is there a "Vikings Still Suck" song too?

My prediction: The Bears will dominate this game, control the ball, field position and limit GB's scores. The final score will not reflect the true amount of dominance over GB, but Bears victory will never be in doubt.

Favre will look like the shell of an athlete he is, his touchdown thrown streak against the Bears will decease, much like her talent already has.

Tell us how you really feel about Favre.... Give me a break, he's getting older yes, but he is still a very good QB. Kinda hard to have a decent year when you have noone to play with. You don't think his consecutive start streak is impressive?

I agreed with you until you said his starts streak was impressive. The way this team is looking right now, there's no reason Brett shouldn't at least let Aaron Rodgers see a few series per game to see how he fits in with the offense.

if Favre comes back next year, there is no point in really seeing Rodgers get playing time this year. I would like to see him get some snaps in, but I don't think Sherman is going to do it. It's still Favre's team and it will be his team until he retires.

and b2ck, give me a freaking break about how his talent has decreased. Look at the players around him. Were on our 5th string RB. Antonio freaking Chatman is our 2nd receiver (and he's actually been a surprise this year.) Our offensive line has a center playing out of position in Scott Wells and a 7th round rookie guard, Will Whitticker. Bubba Franks, Favre's favorite red zone threat, has been hurt for the first time in his career this year. There is NOTHING around him, period.

Hey, truly good quarterbacks make their teammates better, and judging from your analysis of Favre's teammates, Favre sucks.

And saying it's Favre's team until he retires is putting one player--a mediocre one at that--above the team's good.

That is a ridiculous argument. Favre should make the Oline block better? Favre should help establish the running game? Favre should walk his recievers through routes and help them get open?

Favre is undeniably a great QB. He is declining in skill but he is still solid. He can't help the fact that the rest of the players on the field are sub-par. I don't think he has anything to do with their athletic abilities, and you're assumption that if he was good, the rest of the team would be good, is very inaccurate, IMO.

Fred's Fearless Forecast.....

Green Bay 10
BEARS 13

Minnesota 21
Detroit 20

Dallas 17
NY Giants 23 (Sorry, Vance)

Atlanta 20
Carolina 24

To whomever it was that had the Packers winning 31-7..... the Packers won't score 31 points in both Bears games combined !!

If memory serves.... it was 24 years ago this weekend that the Bears, led by a rookie QB named Vince Evans, dismantled the Green Bay squad 61-7. Now, that was a game for the ages !!

I'm not worried. Favre isn't the old, evil gunslinging Favre of the past. He's aging, his accuracy is down, his line is much weaker, and the running game is sub-par. The reason Favre was so consistently deadly against the Bears was the complete lack of a defensive pass rush for so many years. When you have to bring 6 to get to the QB, that leaves the corners one-on-one with the WR's. And we know that Farve will throw the ball up -- he doesn't care about a possible interception when his guys are one-on-one. But, if the front four gets penetration and keeps collapsing the pocket without a lot of blitzing, the Bears will dominate this game. Being able to drop seven into coverage against Favre while still getting to him will lead to a couple of picks.

A) gado doesn't scare you, brin?

B) it really is nice to have a defensive line that can get to the QB. We went from amazingly bad at that (did we have any d-line sacks 3 years ago?) to really good in less than a year, and it's been a lot of fun to watch.

A. Only if he was on my fantasy team. ;)

B. Absolutely. I watched Adewale Ogunleye quite a bit when he was at IU -- now that he's healthy this is what I expected. I'm also *extremely* impressed with the play of Alex Brown and Tank Johnson.

Are you under the age of 3? Maybe I can get you in that way....;)

Well, if I were born on Feb. 29th I'd be 8 -- does that count?

Wow, GBis the least sacked team in the NFC. Least sacked and most intercepted, I'd bet that's somewhat unusual

Edit: teams 2-6 in ints are also 1-5 in sacks, so I'd say I'm probably right

Favre has been hurried a lot this year. I'm amazed Favre hasn't been sacked that much this year. The hurries though have caused Favre to make some pretty stupid throws and that's where the INT's come.

Bubba Franks is also starting today.

Just looking at the numbers, the psychology of favre does seem like a reasonable explaination for that situation (he prefers to make stupid passes than get taken down with the ball)
