You'll want to consider the source (NDnation.com) but this is a great article about the ridiculousness that is the coaches' poll, mentioning that even though over half of the coaches put ND 5th, the Pac-10 coaches' trying to push Oregon into the BCS ended up making ND 6th.

Wow, a completely biased source writing something pro-ND and anti-other teams? Shocking!

Perhaps it could be that those teams that played Oregon think that Oregon is a very good team and worthy of a ranking around #4? Everything doesn't have to be a conspiracy to thwart the great Fighting Irish, you know.

There were also 16 other coaches from several conferences that placed ND below #6.

It's the same thing with Texas. Something like 3 of the 8 first place votes they got were from Big 12 coaches, and TCU gave them another.

I thought the better point was that ND was in front of Oregon last week in the coaches poll, then fell behind them a week later after nothing happened. This strikes me as odd.

Charlie Weis also voted ND #4, ahead of Ohio State, even though Ohio State only lost to two of the top three teams in the country, and ND lost at home to a team that wasn't bowl eligible. And, Ohio State beat that same team at home. Conspiracy!

So it means nothing to you that an entire conference realized after the VT loss that ND was likely to slip into an automatic slot in the BCS and decided to ban together to try to stop it? If Weis and 10 of his coaching cronies had gotten together and voted ND 4th and Oregon 10th (Weis had Oregon 6th BTW), then you might have an argument.

So, you're saying that these Pac-10 coaches were voting ND the same as everyone else, and decided based on the VT loss that they were all going to change their vote to try and keep them out of the BCS? Knowing that only 5 Pac-10 coaches vote out of 62 vote, and that one of those coaches voted ND at #5, higher than their current position?

Fact: ND was ahead of Oregon last week.

Fact: ND is behind Oregon this week.

Fact: Neither ND or Oregon played last week.

Maybe there was more than just Pac-10 coaches doing it? All I know is that some coaches apparently decided that bye weeks was ample reason to change their mind on whether ND or Oregon was better.

Just out of curiosity, was the one coach that put ND at 5 Pete Carroll?

I don't know which coach it was, but I do know it wasn't Carroll, because he didn't have a vote in this year's poll.

It was Walt Harris of Stanford.

Bobby Wallace of Temple had ND 13th, Spurrier had them 14th, Bill Doba of Wazzu had them 12th, Tom O'Brien of BC had them 11th and Barnett of CU and Rocky Long of UNM had them 10th.

Not sure what any of these votes mean, but just for entertainment value. Dennis Franchione had ND 3rd for some strange reason.

Yup, Franchione was only one of two coaches to not vote PSU 3rd... the other was Houston Nutt (nice name), who voted Auburn 3rd.

I hope they keep doing this everyyear, because stuff like this shows the stupidity of having the coaches vote. In reality how many of these teams have most coaches even seen. I cant blame someone like Houston Nutt for voting for Auburn to be 3rd. At least he has seen them play. How is he supposed to know how good Penn St is?

Is there a anti-ND conspiracy among the coaches? Good then at least then college fb will get rid of this stupid poll. I think the computers make alot more sense then some of these coaches ballots.

I agree with you here (strangly enough) With everything a coach does during the season, I would be willing to bet that one of the last things on their mind is filling out the poll. Many coaches have acknowledged they just look at scores and vote, and many more have said they have their assistants fill them out. Are they biased? Sure they are. How could they not be? They are a joke, the whole system is a joke, and I hate the coaches poll counts towards the BCS instead of the AP (even though it was the APs choice).

I am glad the AP got out. I am sure it was a money thing and not a moral issue. I do agree that it makes alot more sense than the coaches poll but the more organizations that get away from stupidity of the BCS the more chances we will have to get a real playoff sometime.

Actually it was a bit of both. A lot of AP employees were not allowed to vote in the AP poll due to the implications it had on millions of dollars going to schools that got voted into the BCS. Many people also thought that the AP was voting in a way that would help them create stories. It also affected the AP sales, oddly enough. With the extra scrutiny the AP Polls recieved it put a negative light on the BCS in some markets.

Over all it just became bad business for the AP to be associated with the BCS.

Here is a quote for the AP concerning the issue.

To the extent that the public has equated or comes to equate the AP poll with the BCS rankings, the independent reputation of the AP poll is lost

Anyone have any preference to how we do the bowl threads. Should there be a single thread for all of the bowls or separate ones for each?

I say have a thread for all the pre-Christmas or pre-Dec. 30 bowls, then go from there.

I say one for non-BCS bowl games and one for the BCS games.

Marcedes Lewis won the Mackey award as the nation's best TE. :)

Chase Coffman got shafted.

So did Fasano :D

Just kidding, congrats to Lewis. Heck of a year.

I knew that Lewis would win over Fasano. Absolutely no problem with it, either. Lewis should be a 1st-rounder easy. I think Fasano will be good in the NFL, too, actually.

Sorry, I had to post this

Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk, center Nick Mangold and another roommate lost $3,000 in cash and other items worth thousands of dollars when their campus-area house was burglarized last month.

Police say they have no suspects in the theft, which included two laptop computers, DVDs worth $1,400, video games worth $750 and a $500 watch

I will refrain from making comment$.

I'm all for making fun of O$U, but I think any college student and roomate's laptops plus their DVD collection would run at least $1400, and a PS2($200) + 11 games at $50 each = $750.

However, a $500 watch plus 3 grand in cash?
