"Everybody has work to do, and I'm no different, but the best players in baseball don't stay the best players in baseball unless they work. I have to make adjustments. It's funny, because I've just been thinking about exactly what my offseason is going to be like. I took a week off after the AFL finished, because after such a long season my body just needed a break, but I started lifting today, and I think the focus for me is going to be more on flexibility and stretching. Obviously, I've got to work on my hitting, and my defense too, but I just feel like God has opened a door for me, and now it's my responsibility to make sure I'm ready. Every year I play a little smarter, a little better, and I want to do that next year as well. I don't feel like I've peaked as a player, and what I'm trying to do is start working out, and work myself up and up until I'm peaking right at spring training, so I can carry that all the way through next year."

I will be disappointed if he isn't in the starting line-up this year. He sounds like a motivated kid.

Ironic isn't it? Do you think if Nomar was more 'motivated' he could have avoided such an injury? And here we are two years after the trade, counting on Murton and watching backwards Ramon take 55 out of town.

Posted
Obviously if Murton can be a successful everyday player then it will more than make up for Nomar being a bust in Cubbie Blue.

I think Murton is gonna be great - I too have had the same great feeling about him as well.....and I think he's gonna have a great year for us starting in LF :)

Nomar is one of the most fit players in the game, following a ridiculous off-season training regimen. SI did a story about it a ways back when he was with Boston. Laziness or lack of conditioning isn't what caused Nomar's injuries.

He could be overtraining.

A distinct possibility. It's definitely not undertraining or lack of motivation though.

I will be happy if he's merely servicable in 2006 because we don't seem to have any other LF options.

Now if we can get this statement: "Murton is the starting LF for the Cubs 2006" inbedded into Dusty's head, maybe we are on to something with the "Bright Red One."

And I agree....Murt is ready to hurt some major league pitchers.

Nomar has one of the most intense workout regimens in baseball. I think SI did a story on a while back.

Assuming Dusty starts him.

Don't try to piggyback his thoughts.

I guess I thought he was ready based on what he did in 2005 and didn't really need that affirmation. Of course, Dusty will probably decide based on 50 spring training at-bats.

By "getting" do you mean paying someone to think it up for you?
