I chose "Other". The Other category for me includes any name denoting plural without using an "s" at the end. The Miami Heat. The Chicago Fire.

I'm voting the same, and my examples are the New England Revolution and the Orlando Magic.

Those don't denote plural, they refer to one historical event or trait. The New Orleans Jazz, that's cool. Maybe they belong in regional? Either way I like them.

Personally, I enjoy high school mascots more myself. Some of the more interesting ones in Illinois:

Cobden - Appleknockers

DeKalb - Barbs

Freeport - Pretzels

Genoa-Kingston - Cogs

Hampshire - Whip-Purs (White & Purple)

Hoopeston - Cornjerkers

Polo - Marcos

Rochelle - Hubs

Rockford East - E-RABs (standing for East Red and Black)

Tuetopolis - Wooden shoes

The following line is not meant to offend anyone, but Pekin, IL used to be the Chinks.

Don't the school that used to be the chinks, they're the dragons now

Also the Zion-Benton ZeeBee's (fits under WTF)

Although my schools mascot can get ripped on, we're the roadrunners. I personally like it. You don't see it too often and if you're gonna be a bird, best not be one that everyone is (cardinals, eagles, whatever)

My high school was the Little Lions. Yes, it's State College High School, and yes, they weren't original enough to not just make us a wussified version of Penn State. So embarassing.

My high school was the Evanston Wildkits, a wussification of the Northwestern Wildcats. Basically we took an already generic team name from a college with a miserable sports program, wussified it, and voila!

Colors.

Being from Ohio, the Cleveland Browns will always annoy me. They had a PERFECT opportunity to get rid of that horrid name when they got the expansion team, and they stuck with Browns. WTF! Its even worse when people call them the Brownies. (although they do typically play like little girls)

Also, The White and Red Sox. First off, spelling socks with an x does not make it any less embarassing that you are named after an article of clothing that is used to keep people's feet warm. Second, why do we need to have 2 of these losers not only in the MLB, but in the same league. They also fall under the singular plural names category.

I'm from Ohio, as I already said, I have nothing against the White Sox except for their freaking name. (and they have fans who beat old people up.)

Cleveland Browns aren't a color. They are named after Paul Brown. What kind of Ohioan are you to not know that? #-o

Not only the name, but the colors and uniforms. Atrocious.

Go Zion.

ZeeBees vs. Sequoits, quite a matchup.

My dad went to Zion, don't be hatin' on the ZeeBee's.

I know DePaul are called the Blue Demons as an offshoot of their original nickname, The Blue D-men.

So what is up with the Demon Deacons?

The Grayslake Rams and the Antioch Sequoits have a combined hockey team with a nickname the "Ramquoits"

And my sister-in-law is a Wooden Shoe alum

I'm having a hard time picking a category. I like wtf names, but the knicks is a terrible name. No problem with animal names, but Colby's "The white Mules" might be the worst.

Love the fact that a catholic univerrsity has a demon for a mascot.

Still better than Marquette's "almost nickname" of Gold. Marquette Gold? Ugh. There's not much that would make me ashamed of attending that university, but that almost did it.

Syracuse Orange is pretty horrible.

I like my high school's nickname, but it is kinda glorifying the worst parts of Catholic history being the Crusaders. Still rather be a wrongful murderer than the girl's school next door...Mighty Macs.

I was totally thinking about the Wooden Shoes this whole thread. But how could you forget:

The Effingham High School Flaming Hearts

Notice how any team that changes its nickname usually goes down not up? My HS team name was the Norsemen but then we merged with the rival southside version and became the Phoenix.

Horrible.

I hope once my alma mater, Illinois, is forced to give up Illini, they protest by making the new name Persons. Not Fighting Persons, mind you,

just Persons so as to be the lamest nickname ever.

Also, anything that ends in a Z, especially if it's a Z where an S should be like Starz.

I voted color, because the Orange, the Gold, the Cardinal, all pathetic.

My whole area had a medieval quality to the nicknames: Colonials, Kingsmen, Indians, Knights, Archers, Spartans, Guardsmen...

Fighting Illini and Fighting Irish both suck. The players on the field (as well as the student body in general) or mostly NOT Irish or Illini

By that logic every team should change their names to the Fans. After all, there aren't any Trojans at USC or Spartans at MSU or Blue Devils at Duke.
