What was that?

He's a backup QB. What's worse than the spike is that he had no idea how to stay in the pocket and pass. He'd drop back way too far and then have to scramble. Just didn't look that good.

No, it's not "pathetic" if a 9-2 ND team makes a BCS game.

It's terrible if an 8-4 FSU team makes it though. Between them and South Florida (even though they lost), that would invalidate any meaning a BCS game has.

How else is ND supposed to make a BCS game? They have no conference, and even if they went 11-0 people would say they're undeserving. 9-2 is pretty good, and you can argue they and a number of teams* could/should make the BCS instead, but it's not "pathetic."

EDIT: Really, you can only make a legit arguement for Ohio State, Auburn, Texas Tech and maybe Oregon.

It's "pathetic" a good ND team can't get any love.

Tech has no legit argument, they aren't very good. And you're sure gonna piss off with the team you left out there. :)

But the argument that it's pathetic that ND makes it at 9-2 makes no sense. Since after next week, there will in all likelihood be 1 legit 1 loss at-large team. So would it not be pathetic for other teams to be 9-2 and make it? If you wanna argue against ND (again) then make a legit argument don't cite their record without context and claim it's pathetic.

Pathetic might have been harsh. But they are a BCS shoe-in after beating one currently-ranked team all season and losing to a 5-6 team along the way. It seems like they'll knock out one of OSU or Oregon, both of whom are more deserving of going to a BCS game, imo.

Oh, and if ND went 11-0, they would have beaten USC and there would be no doubt in most people's minds that they're deserving of playing in the national championship.

Was anyone else sickened with the frequency ABC flashed the $14.5 million bowl pay-out graphic during that game? I mean, c'mon! Are we supposed to be impressed that ND is getting all that money? The players don't see a dime of it. I'm not arguing that they should or shouldn't, but let's not say "purity of the college game" out of one side of our mouths and "huge payout" out of the other.

You're making a pretty big assumption there. I'm sure the new recruits might see some of it under the table.

Might make you feel a little better to know it is the last time ND will ever get a payout like that.

My problem is not that it's ND, it's that the networks make such a big deal about ND's payout (as opposed to anyone else's). In other words, I don't care that ND gets that money, but don't make the outcome of the game ABOUT the money

btw, what is ND's deal next year?

They get less money if they make the BCS but are guarenteed money if they don't make it. Here is a link

I agree that it was mentioned to much on the TV. In reality that money has been on the line every game since their second loss, but I guess calling this game a 13.5 million game makes it more dramatic or something.

We know WVa is in now, and it seems ND is in no matter what. OSU as well. So Oregon is probably screwed akready, and Va Tech will be out should they lose to Florida St.

On the contrary, I think both Texas and USC can lose next week and make the BCS. Colordo would get the auto-berth (and likely play WVa in the Sugar), but Texas would bump OSU out of an at-large. UCLA could beat USC and STILL get screwed by a ND at-large

How would UCLA get screwed. They would win the PAC-10 and get an automatic berth, right?

Got home today, and that game never worried me, oddly enough.

When Stanford went up 31-30 I looked at the clock (1:46), I looked at the timeouts (2), and I looked at the QB (Brady Quinn) and I knew we weren't losing this game.

Although it should be noted that Charlie Weis would have all but ruined all his goodwill from this season if we'd lost for the reprehensible decision of letting DJ kick that last FG. But as always ND survived.

Notre Dame is headed to the Fiesta Bowl :D

Completely disagree with that. Going with DJ does nothing to change my opinion of Weis, whether ND won or lost. This season was amazing and far exceeded my expectations.

ND slipped a bit after the Stanford scare. Interesting to note though that the Stanford game helped ND in the computer polls (at least Sagarins) due to Stanfords strength of schedule.

I'm still unclear on this. I thought I read that USC could lose and still win the PAC-10

ND drops a spot after the less than impressive performance against Stanford.

If UCLA defeats USC, there would be a 3-way tie for first place (Oregon, USC, UCLA). Then they'd go to losses against common opponents - losing to a worse team is worse. Obviously, UCLA will be eliminated there. Obviously it's their fault for losing to a bad Arizona team.

But that 1 loss has more than likely eliminated UCLA from a BCS game, which I think is a screw job.
