Eyre is someone I like, I think he'll be more productive than Remlinger since Baker will use him as a LOOGY and he is younger than Remlinger.

It's an expensive proposition for a LOOGY, but he should produce at an above avg. rate. They still need a Howry type set-up guy to complete the pne, if they do sign Eyre.

This board has so many pessimists I'm surprised that most of you can find a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Seriously, after reading through most of these posts I just want to go run outside, find the nearest lake, and drown myself in it.

Scott Eyre is good. Has been ever since he came over from the AL. I like good players signing with my team. End of story.

I don't think I'll come to this board much anymore. All most of you do is criticize the ever-living-h*ll out of every move, be it minor or major, because it's not the 1 top tier free agent you wanted us to sign. That's just pathetic, and it makes me ashamed to be associated with all of you.

I don't contribute much, so I know I won't be missed. But allow me to say that in general I see more intelligent, objective analysis on the cbs sportsline and cubs.com message boards (which are well documented as completely useless).

well said. This board needs more posters like you. You are absolutley correct. There are some good, knowlegeable & fair posters here, you just have to weed them out. Use your ignore button, it works for me.

So the good ones are the ones who like the moves Hendry makes?

Levine just reported it as a done deal. 3 years $11 million.

OMG 3.6 MIL FOR A LOOGY!! This is downright pathetic. I cant wait to see what the "optimists" say about this..

Don't bother with the optimists. They see no wrong.

I think an Eyre signing probably means Rich Hill is trade bait. It doesn't look like the Cubs are going to give him a real shot at the rotation and the opportunity cost of keeping him as a redundant LOOGY would be prohibitive, considering how high his trade value is. I guess somebody has to fulfill the trade bait role, may as well be Hill. Personally I don't have a problem with Eyre except that he is emblematic of the overvaluing of LOOGYs. 3yrs. $10 million is too much.

I wish I was negoiating with Hendry for my last job.

Eyre isn't a terrible signing, but that is a terrible contract for a middle reliver who is 33.

 $11M over 3 years?? I know I said I like him, but he is not that good. :D

After he signed Rusch, and Perez are you surprised? He is going to waste that 30mil signing mediocre-medium talent. Great Job!

Seriously, what has happened to Hendry? He just got taken. I hope that one of those years is an option year.

When all 30 teams express interest, and there are at least a half dozen serious chasers, and you manage to land a guy that fast....you can be fairly assured that your bid was wayyyyy too high.

I still can't believe it. Almost 4 mil for a loogy.

$3.66 million per year for 3 years is a hell of a lot to pay for somone who will mostly pitch to one batter per appearance. It's a fine time to be a LOOGY.

Eyre will help them win games and even if his salary is a little high it won't keep the Cubs from getting anyone they really want. They still have plenty of money to sign Furcal and upgrade RF and CF.

I agree that it does probably mean that Rusch has the inside track for the 5th starter job since 3 lefties in the bullpen seems like overkill.

Being able to count on two solid LH relievers will be a nice luxury and it increases the chances of Hendry being able to use Hill and/or Williams as trade bait to get the OF bat they need.

It seems that the Cubs are just doing the same things they always do. I wonder how Remmy...I mean Eyre is going to do? This is like reliving the same nightmare over and over.

If we have to say that after every signing (and we have), I don't think it's true anymore.

Why do people keep comparing Eyre to Remlinger? Eyre can get out lefties, Remilinger couldn't. Isn't the age difference pretty signficant? A fair comparison?

What about it isn't true? They signed Neifi for pretty much the same amount he got paid last year, Rusch for a slight raise and Eyre and Dempster combined can't be much (if any) more than Remmy and Hawkins. That still leaves at least the Nomar, Burnitz and Sosa money to burn.

As long as you're counting on none of our younger players getting their requisite raises, nor anyone that has a contract that goes up in value (like, say, most of our players) having their contract go up in value.

If we give everybody a little bit more than we need to, it adds up and becomes a lot in a hurry. Suddenly we won't have so much money.
