Paper tiger until they develop a test for HGH.

Exactly, if the Olympics can test for it, congress should push around MLB some more and get this included as well.

I am curious to see what testing pitchers for meth will do.

I was listening to XM Radio Home Plate on DirecTV today(by the way I am so excited that DirecTV switched to this instead of just music..really cool) but anyways one of the guys on there suggested they freeze the urine samples of the players. The reason being that sooner or later there will be a test for HGH and when that comes out then you go back and test for HGH on past and present players. He said if they implement this right now then players will fear that even though they can currently get away with using HGH sooner or later they will be caught and be humiliated like Palmerio. He said a Dr. has said that you can freeze the urine sample for a number of years and they would still be accurate. I kind of like this idea. Whats everybody elses thoughts?

They COULD do that, but I think it would be unfair to punish people for something that wasn't against the rules when they did it.

I'm totally against HGH and all the other stuff, but if it wasn't against the rules at the time players did it, you can't really punish them for it.

Meth?

Is that classified as a steroid precursor?

I don't believe so but I'm no biochemist.

Meth?

Yep, methamphetamines/crystal meth

It is the most common drug used in MLB, pitchers are the dominant user of it.

I should probably include the same caveat about my lack of a background in biochemistry, but I too am almost certain it is not.

From what I've read you have to mix HGH with a cocktail of regular steroids to get the full benefit, but I still agree it sucks there's no testing for it.

you sure you don't mean amphetamines (aka uppers/pills/greenies)?

Crystal meth is a recreational drug that's snorted or smoked. it's also the reason why you can't buy Sudafed without getting it from a pharmacist behind the counter.

Are you serious? Meth would not be good to use in a game situation. I find it very hard to believe pitchers smoke meth before a game. I can think of no way that would improve their game.

Not trying to get off-topic, but are you sure about this? I've always bought my Sudafed straight off the shelf at Walgreens.

Pitchers have been tripping on LSD during games, not too out of the ordinary to have them hyped up on anything.

Oh, I was hoping it was a rule that would not allow players to win the comeback player of the year when they were on roids, got off them, sucked big time, found a better masking agent, and then got good again.

I know that it is not out of the ordinary to see players using some sort of substance. I didn't know of any LSD instances except for Ellis (I am sure there are though), but Meth just sounds crazy. What it does to your mind is different than LSD, coke, weed, uppers. I makes you absolutely crazy. I guess I just don't see how it can be the most common drug used among pitchers. Meth is a beast of a drug

In some places they still sell it on the shelves, but in a lot of places (basically the entire rural midwest) they've moved it behind the counter. Pseudoephedrine is a meth precursor.

That is very annoying. I tried to get some medicine the other day and the pharmacist was on lunch so they told me I had to wait an hour before I could buy cold medicine.

You have to be 18 in some areas to buy it too.

"The time between notification and sample collection provides opportunities for players to cheat on their drug tests,'' the report says, "either by taking masking agents ... or by more invasive methods.''

That makes me think a certain scene from Playmakers.

Good article. DP interviewed someone not too long ago who was saying that, no matter what, the drugs will always be ahead of the tests. For each one discovered there a multiple new ones to take its place.
