That's me ... I just hope it will shut up a lot of the whiny ESPN talking heads.

According to Dan Patrick's show, the penalties are actually stricter if you are caught possessing steroids, and even more stricter if you are caught distributing them. Can't remember specific details though.

So what's the over/under on HRs hit by the league leader next year? 35?

No kidding. Wasn't there like 10 years in between 40 HR years before Foster did it in the early 80s?

Maybe this will usher in some more 80's style baseball.

You know, moving runners over, stealing bases, trying to drive a ball into the gap instead of trying to hit it 450 feet. Better fundimentals. More "smart" ball instead of sitting back and waiting for the 3-run homer.

I think we've seen the last of the 60-homer season, but I think we'll still see 40 homer years nearly every year.

the cubs will be doing that, but all the smart teams wont.

I don't mean "smart" ball in terms of Ozzie ball... but I do mean maybe instead of juicers expanding thier swing and strike zone to try to hit a homer, maybe k's will decrease a bit, we'll see more contact, more doubles, hits strung together to spark rallies. Overall, better, fundimental baseball.

Doubles come from hitting the ball hard, I don't see how this would make guys hit the ball harder.

I mean guys maybe shortening thier swings and making better contact. Guys trying to drive a ball into a gap instead of into the bleachers.

But anyway, I think it will have a better effect on the game. I just hope they develop tests for all this designer stuff that guys are on and weed it totally out.

It's not going to happen. I just hope the story dies down a bit and they keep it marginally under control. But the designer stuff will always be out there.

And baseball very late acceptance of the concept of weight lifting had a far greater impact on the changing of the game than steroids did. When I was in high school (early 90's) our coach was still an adament anti-workout guy. Bulk of any kind was bad. That kind of thinking is the biggest reason why the players of the 70's/80's look like sloppy pigs or skinny wimps when we look back. Weight lifting will still be there, and HR will still be a part of the game.

The whole "back to the fundamentals" idea is overblown. Much of it comes from the mistaken assumption by the old guard conventional wisdom crowd that says strikeouts are much worse than other outs. Thankfully wisdom has taught us that is not the case. Guys will still strikeout a lot, power will still be vital.

By the way, shortening your swing doesn't maker for better contact, it should make for more contact, but that doesn't guarantee any sort of improved production.

Paper tiger until they develop a test for HGH.

I was listening to XM Radio Home Plate on DirecTV today(by the way I am so excited that DirecTV switched to this instead of just music..really cool) but anyways one of the guys on there suggested they freeze the urine samples of the players. The reason being that sooner or later there will be a test for HGH and when that comes out then you go back and test for HGH on past and present players. He said if they implement this right now then players will fear that even though they can currently get away with using HGH sooner or later they will be caught and be humiliated like Palmerio. He said a Dr. has said that you can freeze the urine sample for a number of years and they would still be accurate. I kind of like this idea. Whats everybody elses thoughts?
