Slow news day so I thought I'd post this.

Rotoworld has a new article up where they predict who's available this offseason and which teams might be making trades.

The only trade they predict the Cubs to make is for Pierre:

Juan Pierre - Marlins - Pierre could make $6 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility, and the Marlins aren’t as high on him as they were a year ago. There have been reports that he could go to the Cubs in exchange for Corey Patterson, and the Yankees, Red Sox, Diamondbacks and Dodgers are among the other teams that could be interested.

Trade possibility: To Cubs for OF Corey Patterson and LHP Rich Hill

Prediction: Goes

I'd still like to see the Cubs take a run at Chad Tracy for RF:

Chad Tracy - Diamondbacks - Like Overbay and Ryan Howard, Tracy probably has more trade value right now than he ever will again. He’s 25, coming off a season in which he had a 911 OPS and is still a year away from being arbitration eligible. It currently looks like the Diamondbacks would prefer to move Troy Glaus and use Tracy at third base, his natural position. Putting him back in right field and using Shawn Green in center shouldn’t be an option, and first base will likely go to Tony Clark and/or Conor Jackson.

For those too lazy:

Adam Dunn - Reds - There’s a good chance the Reds will move one of their four outfielders this winter, but it’s at least as likely to be Austin Kearns as Dunn and Wily Mo Pena is also a possibility. Ken Griffey Jr., who was nearly dealt to the White Sox and the Astros at different times during the season, seems to have the best chance of staying now. Dunn is still two years away from free agency and is supposedly open to signing a long-term deal to stay with the Reds. They’d be smart to lock him up.

Trade possibility: To Astros for RHP Chad Qualls, RHP Fernando Nieve and RHP Matt Albers

Prediction: Stays

Out of curiousity--I don't know anything about Nieve and ALbers. Can we match that package?

I also saw this deal on Rotoworld:

Braves get: Julio Lugo and Jesus Colome

Rays get: Johnny Estrada, Wilson Betemit, and Jake stevens

Would it really cost that much to get Lugo?

Sheesh. Who would ATL play at C? They've only had Estrada for two years. I don't see them doing that deal, even if they lose Furcal.

They seem to like this McCann kid. But, I really know nothing about him other than what he did offensively in 2005. Not bad for a 21 year old.

Supposedly, he also possesses a superb arm behind the dish, so they feel they can move Estrada, and then start McCann with Brayan Pena backing him up, and not lose anything offensively or defensively from the catching tandem they began 2005 with, of Johnny Estrada and Eddie Perez.

I would imagine that would be contingent on Atlanta getting Lugo signed to an extension. Isn't he a free agent after 2006?

Albers was the Astros 6th ranked prospect according to BA prior to the 2005 season. He took a step back in my opinion in 2005. For class A Salem, he posted a 4.66 ERA and a 1.50 whip. He had an 8.84 k/9 and a 3.75 w/9.

In his 2005 prospect book, Sickels gave Alber a grade of B. He throws a low to mid nineties fastball and features an eratic change and curve.

Nieve was the 8th ranked prospect for the Astros in BA's 2005 handbook, and Sickels also gave him a rank of B in his 2005 handbook. Nieve's numbers in AAA aren't outstanding either. He had a pedestrian 4.85 ERA while pitching for Round Rock with an 8.23 k/9 and a 3.62 w/9. Nieve has a fastball in the upper nineties and a 91-92 mph hard sinker. He's got great stuff and a high ceiling, but his performance hasn't matched that yet. He would do well if he were shifted to the pen. He's 23 years old.

On those two prospects, I think we could match the offer easily. Qualls had a good season, but he too is only a reliever. I would personally freak out if that's all the Reds could muster for Dunn. A reliever and two prospects, one of whom is likely to be a reliever and another who had a lack luster season at high A. I can see why rotoworld says that Dunn stays.

I can't see the Reds trading Dunn to the Astros unless they get back either Chris Burke or Troy Patton.

As far as what the Cubs could offer that matches that? We really don't have a young reliever that matches what Qualls has produced unless we give up Wuertz. We could throw Novoa out there. On the other hand, we could offer up Jerome Williams who ,in my opinion, has more value than Qualls.

Matching the two prospects shouldn't be hard. Ryu should be equivalent to some of those guys that have been mention. If the Reds look past the health concerns of Guzman, he easily passes those guys. I would think Marmol and Gallagher would be better prospects than those as well. Pinto, in my opinion, shows as much promise as Nieve.

So, yes. If that's what the Astros are offering, we could beat it.

supposedly furcal and pierre are Hendry's two dream players. that sucks b/c I like Hill. Patterson I could care less about.

Pierre doesn't come for nothing. Patterson has minimal trade value right now and Hill is a hit or miss prospect.

I think you're overrating the Cubs players in this deal.

that much? you gotta be kidding me. are you upset about losing patterson or hill? because i don't think hendry would be giving up two players that are going to contribute a whole heckuva lot next year, barring some extreme and unlikely improvement from either one. if we can get pierre for just patterson and hill, then hendry doesn't HAVE to get furcal because he's got his leadoff hitter. hendry could then turn his attention towards brian giles for RF and hitting between lee and ramirez. yes, let's not give up a huge disappointment and a possible LOOGY for one of the top leadoff hitters in baseball. that would be TERRIBLE.

Rich Hill led all of the minor leagues in strikeouts while he was there last year. Patterson and Pierre have been identical in production 2 of the last 3 years. Pierre is coming off a down year.

Twins GM Terry Ryan said he won't be trading Kyle Lohse to the Cubs in exchange for Corey Patterson.

Ryan also confirmed that Lohse would be tendered a contract. However, the right-hander is expected to remain available in trade talks. The Twins shouldn't be interested in paying him $3 million or more when both Scott Baker and Francisco Liriano look like upgrades. Nov. 15 - 12:07 am et

Huh? Lohse for Patterson. Didn't we trade Lohse for Aguilera?

Correct. Yet another great trade by Ed Lynch, especially since Aguilera got that magically 300th save with the Cubs in that great 2000 campaign. Not that Lohse has been spectuclar, but rather just another example of the Cubs trading for an over-the-hill less than great player.

I agree that Lohse is nothing special, but the point was rather another example of the Cubs trading away a cheap major league player for mediocore talent.

Could have traded him for a better player, though. Same with Jon Garland.
