Great job at the end of the game by Quin switching to the 2-3 zone on that 2nd to last possession with great results. And Gardner is a stud. What a game indeed.

Brian Randle held him to 6 points on two broken play threes I wouldn't call him a stud by anymeans.

Players have bad nights. Is Dee Brown no good because of the Iowa game? Teams gameplan to stop Gardner and he still leads the B12 in scoring, and he shoots for respectable percentages.

brian randle may be the best defensive player in the big ten, amybe even the country, though.

can't judge him on what randle did to him. he did the same thing to ager.

anybody want to discuss the UI/IU game tonight? or is discussing illinois off-limits?

it sucks that IU lost white, i was hoping to see how the illini would approach defending both of them. is monroe going to play?

can the illini's perimeter d shut the hoosiers down at assembly hall?

Good, i know my IU friends would use that as an excuse if Illinois won without Monroe playing. I read where Augustine will be guarding Vaden with a Pruitt/Arnold combination on Killingsworth. If IU keeps up its 47% 3-point shooting it'll be a long night, but if they don't UI will dominate the boards and pull out a win in the Bloomington Assembly Hall.

Vaden better be taking him off the dribble then. I would imagine Pruitt/Arnold would be getting help then. With Brown and Randle, the Illini still may be able to cover the perimeter for the kickout.

I was at the Mizzou game last night. I've never heard a building louder than when Moody was shooting his second free throw. I couldnt hear myself yelling, and I was shouting as loud as I could.

By the way, I hope you Illini fans enjoy this year, because next year is gonna be rough, and if you don't believe me, then just watch when Dee is on fire and leading the team and when he's missing shots.

Dee is missing shots. Augustine is in foul trouble. Randle just fouled out. Illinois can't hit free throws. Yet, somehow, they trail by just 4 in Indiana.

Doesn't look like the Illini are going to have quite enough tonight, but it was nice to see Pruitt, Frazier and Randle participate when Brown and Augustine struggle.

3.9 left, Vaden shooting 2...

Shame they could never quite catch IU after finally waking up on defense midway through the 2nd half.

Solid effort though in a game I didn't expect them to be that close in.

Great game. I didn't think we would win. Killer was an absolute beast in the 2nd half. The best two players on the each team (Brown and Vaden) really struggled with their shot, but did everything else for their team.

My keys to the game in the other thread prove prophetic. IU didn't let Brown and Augustine beat them alone, as they've done to the rest of the Big Ten. And they attacked the boards from the backcourt.

Rod Wilmont has been huge in every recent IU win.

Somebody on this thread or the Big Ten thread asked who was more useless Pruitt or Warren Carter. I think the question was answered tonight. I think Shaun Pruitt has finally realized how to play the post. Great job by him tonight and if he and Brian Randle can play like this the rest of the year, we will go far in the tourney. Free throws and the start of the second half is what cost us the game tonight. Funny, how Illinois started to play with much greater passion after Frazier was almost knocked out on a screen.... stupid Warren Carter. He's got to be the dumbest player (no basketball intelligence) I've seen at Illinois since Richard Keene.

By the way, I have always hated the Big Ten schedule since they got rid of the round robin schedule. Wisconsin doesn't play in Champaign nor Bloomington this year.

McBride had at least one more dribble before he needed to shoot. IU holds on.

I was rooting for Vaden to make that last free throw because the worst thing was to have to go full court in under four seconds. Plus, Richard McBride is one of the last players I want taking a last shot for us. Too bad Augustine didn't have enough time to find Jamar Smith instead.

That would be me, and yes, Warren Carter has definitely proven himself far more worthless. I really can't stand him.

I've only watched a couple of Illini games and they are truly infuriating. IS Augustine ever on the court? Does he start the game with 2 fouls? And Dee Brown looks very average when he doesn't have Head and Williams to cover for his poor shooting. Despite a few good wins, their non-conference schedule was very weak and they surely aren't the 5th best team in the country. I think the Big Ten is going to expose them for what they are: a streaky team who lives and dies at the arc and can't penetrate a zone defense when Augustine is on the bench (which is always).

I've always thought Dee Brown was overrated. He's a very good player, but he was hardly the team's best last year as many were saying. He's fast, plays good defense and hits the open three (in Champaign, at least), however, my complaint with him is, and continues to be, he doesn't create his own shot. If he's not given a screen, he'll put up an awful shot. I do like how he contributes to a game even when not scoring ( tonight had 11 assists even though he went 1-9 from the floor). I still don't consider him a leader, though. I was, for the first time this year, impressed with their low post play. I think their first twelve points came from the paint. If they can continue to get production from Pruitt, I like our chances to go far this year. Two games behind Wisconsin isn't good when you only play them once this year. I'll be rooting for OSU against Wisconsin this Thursday.

I am a huge Dee Brown fan, always have, even though Im a Mizzou student and fan. And even though he won all those awards last year, its mostly because hes the most marketable. I think Luther Head was easily the most valuable player from last years team. Deron Williams was a close second, and Dee third. The Illini look to be in serious trouble until Gordon and possibly Rose arive at U of I.

I don't understand the hate on U of I I've seen (not necessarily all here) They lost by 2 points on the road to the #11 team in the country in the Big 10 while their best player went 1-9. A win under those conditions would be quite incredible, yet I'm seeing them slammed in a lot of places. This is a top 10 team, and hopefully by the end of the year Warren Carter will be given the Nick Smith March '05 treatment and this will be a top 5 team.

They aren't as dominant as they were last year. Big whoop.

Who's slamming them?

Maybe it's the inner Sully in me, but I feel like the Illini are being treated as far less than a #5 ranked team. As I said it's not necessarily on this forum, but this:

The Illini look to be in serious trouble

Doesn't exactly seem to be a glowing endorsement. If Duke loses to the #11 ranked team on the road who happens to be in the ACC it's seen as proof that the ACC is just a brutal place on the road, and it was amazing of MVP JJ to lead his team back to within a desperation 3 at the buzzer for a chance at the win. No wait, that's exactly what happened against Va. Tech.

Except for that whole part about Duke being at home and winning the game with the 3...

Duke is very good this year. They are a consistently overrated team, but I think they are finally legit and won't bow out to an 8 or 9 in the 2nd round of March. Usually they play a cake OOC schedule. This year they have wins at Indiana, Memphis, and Texas.

The ACC is far from what it will be next year. Duke is in it's own league this year, but the rest of the conference will come up to them. However, NC State on the road is always a trap game for them. Look for them to struggle tonight and need the officiating to help them get a W. If Larry Rose isn't doing the game - they probably will not win.

Yes we lost to a very good IU team at home. Gosh I hope we just call the rest of the season off  That and Rose hasn't even decided where he is playing his college ball at yet. Besides that a great post.
