Tigres win 8-3, Cedeno (SS) 1-5, 2K, error Ronny now batting 4th in Tigres lineup.

Caribes lose 7-6, Greenberg 0-0 came in to pinch-run

Leones win 4-3, Blanco © 2-4, double, sac bunt; remember Macias? (LF) 1-5, RBI

I'd prefer to see Ronny hitting leadoff. I think that is where his future is at in the Majors, assuming he pans out and becomes a decent everyday player in the league.

Nah, he doesn't walk enough - his .400 OBP is only .033 higher than his .367 AVG.

That means he walks once per thirty at bats, and hits eleven. On average?

I worked that out without using a calculator. That's how bored I am.

Caribes over Tigres 4-3

Cedeno (SS) 0-3, RBI, K, BB

Greenberg DNP

Leones win 5-0

Blanco © 0-4, K

Macias (LF) 2-3, RBI, BB

Why is Greenberg there if he isn't playing? I see way too many DNP's.

Cedeno (SS) 1-1, HR, 2 sac bunts, BB, 2RBI, R, error

That's one of the most bizarre lines I've ever seen. Either he makes them look stupid for bunting him twice, or they are stupid for bunting him twice after he hits a HR.

how many errors does Cedeno have now? It's has to be close to double-digits.

The IF's down there can't be all that great. I wouldn't put a ton of stock into it.

Also, is Ronny playing 2B, SS, or a bit of both?

Double digits would be a slight exaggeration after 1 more tonight he's at 9 - with a batting line of .360/.399/.504

BTW Ronny was 3-4, double, 2 RBI, K tonight (12/21). And he has played SS exclusively.

Errors don't tell the complete story either. I'm just glad to see his walks increasing.

Cedeno now has 10 errors, .371 batting average. He's always made quite a few errors. It may be that the fields or lighting or whatever in Venez are conducive, but it's always been part of his profile.

I just hope he doesn't go an error binge early, so that Dusty replaces him with Neifi for defensive reasons. If he's keeping his errors to a reasonable number for a few months and then makes a few more in July, that might be less of a problem.

I think he'll make 20 errors easily as an ML SS, but he'll still be above average defensively. If he's at 2B, I think you see a lot fewer E's and one of the best in the game defensively there. I think he has the upside defensively of Julio Lugo (offensively too FWIW), which means he won't win any gold gloves, but will be as dependable as any SS around. I'll take that.

How excited should we be about Ronny?? I know VZL isn't quite MLB, but he's really starting to mash now (and walk). I sure hope he gets a chance, because I've enjoyed watching him in the little shot he had.

He's hit well for the past year.

ZiPS has him at

.287/ .332/ .412 in 345 ABs

which not-so-oddly resembles his '04 West Tenn line of

.279/ .328/ .401 in 384 ABs (when he started turning it on)

I wish the Cubs had more certainty at other positions to withstand Cedeno going through a slump, if he does. I'm a Cedeno believer, but expecting power production out of him is unrealistic.

If some sort of trade scenario results in the Cubs getting another shortstop and Ronny not being traded, I think there's zero chance he starts at 2B. UBlink is the authority here, but I don't think he's played 2B this winter ... when's the last time he's played it in the minors? Dusty isn't going to start playing him at 2B in spring training; Dusty doesn't think that's what spring training is for. I think any talk of him starting at 2B is pure B.S. because I do not believe Dusty would play him there.

Of course Dusty DID play him there last year (albeit for 1 inning)

Thought this might be interesting and yet useless at the same time, but if you include all of Cedeno's hitting over the last two years, from the beginning of 2004, Spring Training, Double-A, Arizona Fall League, Spring Training, Triple-A, Majors and now Winter Ball (I don't think Ronny played Winter Ball last year, let me know if he did and I'll take it into account)...
